Going out in pyjamas

Jolie12345 · 13/02/2022 12:35

I often do the school run or pop to the local shop in the evening in my pyjamas. And I wouldn’t be ashamed to turn up to a friends or families house without putting on proper clothes. I’ve always been more interested in being comfortable than looking my best. I work from home so even if I do get dressed I come back and put pjs back on. Is it just me? Do you judge people who step out in pj bottoms with trainers?

Festering in bed for however many hours, ew.

I think there may be something wrong with your bed!

StarsAreWishes · 13/02/2022 18:59

This is why I can’t bring myself to wear my 100 Stats kimono out of the house. People will think I am in my PJs.

Yesterday morning I woke up, had a shower, did my hair (I don’t wear make up), and got dressed in some lovely Gudrun Sjoden harem trouser, fitted merino t-shirt and floaty 100 Stars kimono. All technically day-wear.

Then DH announced that we were going out for coffee so I had had to get changed into jeans and a jumper Hmm. I would have loved to have the nerve to go out in what I was already wearing!

If, as you say, you don't care what you look like then what is the point of this thread?

Tbh I envy people who can do this. I love being in my pj's and wish I didn't feel the need to slip into proper clothes when popping out on a quick errand. Good for you I reckon.

RitaJosephina · 13/02/2022 20:08

*Absolutely, each to their own.

Because, objectively, you know as well as I do, that it's fine. There aren't mass deaths from people wearing PJ's two nights in a row or wearing their clothes to Tesco and also in their lounge.

It's your personal preference, but there is no science to support that you're making a healthier choice.

It might make you feel cleaner, but it doesn't actually have an objective impact on your health or well being. It's just in your head*
@NuffSaidSam

Objectively, there is a strong link between hygiene and overall health, that's a scientific fact. Obviously people have different standards, some people don't shower every day or don't change their underwear daily, and as long as they do it occasionally then I imagine there's no harm done. I personally wouldn't be comfortable wearing the same clothes outside and in my bed.

NuffSaidSam · 13/02/2022 20:16

Of course, I'm not disputing that. Hand washing, for example, is very important.

But when we're talking about wearing PJ's to the school run, that isn't a hygeine issue and it's incorrect to claim that it is.

It's not helpful to use the hygeine lie to reaffirm your preferences over someone elses. Do whatever you like, but know that it isn't better or healthier.

To be honest I thought it was a bit better than the images you posted op. Those are awful.

Yeah I was expecting classier loungewear to be honest Grin

Yes.

willithappen · 13/02/2022 20:37

Those pictures are not loungewear, they are pyjamas. 100% you will be judged going out like that on the regular

Also, 'what's gross about sleeping'. You are in those for around 8 hours, maybe more. In one space where the body is likely sweating, shedding skin cells. It then questions if when you say you get up and showered for the day - you are then putting on the same clothes you just slept in?

Outfit 1 looks nothing at all like pjs.

You shed skin cells in the clothes you wear for the other 16 hours a day?

Abrakatabra · 13/02/2022 21:06

No, never.... I never go out in pajamas! I wouldn't be able to sleep with these clothes then.

I also don't get people who go out in flipflops in winter or them that wear dirty white socks which are visible!

Jolie12345 · 13/02/2022 21:07

@SpongebobsPants

I reckon you should wear whatever the hell you like. There's a lot to be said for comfort, especially after what the world has just been through this past couple of years. I'm not saying I wouldn't notice (I miss nothing!), but I wouldn't care AT ALL. I try not to judge people and my mind certainly wouldn't gallop straight towards the possible lack of hygiene just because someone is wearing pyjamas.

But leave the fluffy slippers at home - they'll get ruinedGrinGrin

Grin defo leave the slippers at home. Unless of course I’m wearing a tailored dress or something. In which case I’d wear slippers to make sure I get noticed 😁

No I don't like it. I would feel uncomfortable being seen out in pyjamas. I think it's lazy when I see people on the school run do it or in shops. I might take the dog out the front at night in pjs with a big coat over but it's dark, I don't see anyone and I'm only out 5 minutes.

Hdhr8jsj · 13/02/2022 21:21

I will wear my pj's to pop over to my mums but I'd never go into public with them on.

Fwiw I shower at night, put a fresh pair of pj's on and then take them off when I get into bed. I will stick them back on in the morning (wfh) - if I pop to see my mum I'm not getting dressed to get undressed an hour later.

Missnataliex · 13/02/2022 21:23

I'd assume something was seriously wrong. It takes two minutes to put on some stretchy leggings and hoodie and a pair of trainers. I don't understand this either. Sorry OP. But there are other clothes out there that are so comfortable. You don't have to wear jeans!

Missnataliex · 13/02/2022 21:26

Also if you don't care, why are you asking MN? Has someone said something to you OP? Intrigued more than anything else haha🤣🤣🤣🤣

Shutupandcry · 13/02/2022 21:31

No I would never do the school run in pjs. You set your children example- school is a place of respect, like the workplace. Part of that is turning up on time, being well turned out and that includes the parents. Leggings and a hoody- fine. Not being bothered to get out of pjs- no. But then I enjoy choosing what to wear, I always prioritise comfort but also looking nice.

Franklin12 · 13/02/2022 21:32

It does sound lazy and yes I am afraid I would judge you.

Darbs76 · 13/02/2022 21:35

I do as I really hate it. I find it incredibly lazy,
I mean how long does it take to get dressed? I feel sorry for kids with parents who turn up at the school dates in PJ’s.

Chestofdraws · 13/02/2022 21:44

The thing is op you could easily find light weight jogging bottoms in that style thay are self coloured and don’t look like pyjamas.

There is absolutely no need to go out literally wearing pyjamas and looking like it.

Here’s an example, and many cheaper options exist if it’s a financial problem.

Everyone keeps suggesting leggings. Do we actually think leggings are much better? They show everything… how is that more appropriate and less offensive? Genuinely

Nobody has said anything. I really didn’t think anyone cared. I saw an article about a school trying to enforce a dress code on parents and thought it was ludicrous. Made me wonder why it was such a big deal
