Going out in pyjamas

I often do the school run or pop to the local shop in the evening in my pyjamas. And I wouldn’t be ashamed to turn up to a friends or families house without putting on proper clothes. I’ve always been more interested in being comfortable than looking my best. I work from home so even if I do get dressed I come back and put pjs back on. Is it just me? Do you judge people who step out in pj bottoms with trainers?

If a friend showed up my house in PJs I’d assume something was wrong.

It’s perfectly possible to be comfortable and dress in normal clothes.

Legoisthebest · 13/02/2022 12:40

It depends what you define as pyjamas. I essentially live in 'loungewear' bottoms and a t-shirt usually bought from the nightwear department of Primark. But really it's just some loose fitting trousers and a t-shirt.

Buzzer3555 · 13/02/2022 12:41

I think its slovenly.

Agree that it depends on what you class as pyjamas. I sleep in loungewear so like leggings, jogging bottoms etc. I do the nursery run in these and no one bats an eyelid as they're normal clothes as opposed to walking around in obvious pj bottoms with random designs on.

Jolie12345 · 13/02/2022 12:48

For some people it might be. I find leggings, jeans, tights very uncomfortable myself

My pyjamas are mostly lounge wear. There are some more patterned bottoms that I’ll stick a hoody on with. I’m not talking flannel button up. Although I wouldn’t judge someone for wearing them either 😁

NO, NO, NO just NO!!!!!

I actually roll my eyes when I see grown ass people in pj's while out. I do be shocked that some put clean ones on to go out? WTF is that all about, for the same amount of time putting on pj's you'd be dressed in actual clothes.

There is no need to wear pj's outdoors, I don't care how comfortable you find them, they look ridiculous. Pj's fine sitting at home doing nothing, in bed, sick.. But shopping, visiting, school, jesus 🙈🙈

Suprima · 13/02/2022 12:50

I’d assume they were depressed or not coping tbh.

And it definitely looks like pyjamas- even if pyjamas look like lounger wear these days. People are fully aware you have left the house in what you slept in.

It takes 2 minutes to pull on some smart black running tights or yoga leggings- and they are just as comfy.

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/02/2022 12:51

Do you mean you sleep in pyjamas and then leave the house in the same clothes to do the school run? Would you take your children out in their nightwear?

Are you depressed or ill?

Jolie12345 · 13/02/2022 12:51

That’s interesting. If a friend came to my house in pyjamas I’d think it’s nice that they feel comfortable / at home enough to do it. But I appreciate the perspective

So what on earth do you wear when you are not wearing pyjamas?

I would be sizing up in my clothes. It’s not normal to find trousers and tights uncomfortable.

Mrsjayy · 13/02/2022 12:52

Lots of people wandering about in lounge wear I mean a pair of patterned leggings or yoga trousers isn't exactly your standard pyjamas wear what you like.

Jolie12345 · 13/02/2022 12:53

But what about those of us that don’t care what we look like. It’s not my top priority, comfort it. I struggle to see the difference between pyjama bottoms and patterned trousers?

I work in a shop and we do judge people who come in wearing pjs. There's no need for it. Had someone maybe early 20s the other day in a short dressing gown and no sign of any bottoms. I just don't feel like it's appropriate.

Legoisthebest · 13/02/2022 12:55

What's the difference though between wearing comfy 'loungewear' bottoms and trackie bottoms though? I too find leggings or jeans uncomfortable. I am overweight which a few other health issues. I need comfort. It's loungewear or a Homer Simpson style moo moo - which when there is a heatwave I get close to wearing but I don't have Homers confidence.

Jolie12345 · 13/02/2022 12:55

I would yes. And then come home and shower when I don’t have kids to tend to. But I’d also put on clean ones to go out if I didn’t already feel clean. Not depressed or ill 😊

I think it's weird not to get dressed to leave the house, but then I often have friends arrive at my house in their swimwear so you know, different stokes and all that!
mynameiscalypso · 13/02/2022 12:55

For me, it's less about the fact that they look like pyjamas and more the fact that it looks like you haven't showered / have just rocked up in the same thing you slept in. Even if you haven't, that's the assumption.

Legoisthebest · 13/02/2022 12:56

Jealous of Homer....

Going out in pyjamas
Jolie12345 · 13/02/2022 12:57

A dress with tights. Leggings and a jumper. I do have proper clothes and of course I’d wear them for work or a trip into town. But I’m uncomfortable the whole time. It’s not about sizing up for me. I get terrible bloated (hormonal) so if I size up to accommodate the bump clothes are Badly fitting everywhere else

Valdes · 13/02/2022 12:58

I just can't believe that people get up, get washed, changed their underwear and then put pj's on.

Realistically, they've just got out of Bath and not bothered washing or changing their underclothes. It's not very hygienic is it?

Maireas · 13/02/2022 12:58

It's the difference between wearing bra and pants on the beach and a bikini. It's not the coverage, it's the appropriateness. Pyjamas are night wear.
Valdes · 13/02/2022 12:58

Out of bed

Jolie12345 · 13/02/2022 13:00

You might not believe it, but it’s true. I’m always clean. I shower every day. Do my hair and makeup. I just don’t wear things that k don’t feel myself in to please other people

Are they pyjamas you’ve worn to bed?
