How to break the news to my son

We were due to move to Oxford in July, having just done two years abroad away from all family and friends in a country very different to home in every sense. My son found himself the dream college course he wants to do, he applied and has been accepted. Husband then tells me this posting has fallen through and we are now scheduled to go to Kinloss in Scotland. I am dreading telling my son. I really don't know how to break it to him. It's eating me up knowing he is so excited to go, yet I'm scared to put him on a downer pre GCSE exams.

What would you do or say?

@Iwouldlikesomecake yes I would agree there is no need to uproot the whole family to follow a 16 year old's college course even if it is a one in a million chance to follow their dream. At that age it should be perfectly possible for them to find suitable lodgings if they need to be out of commuting distance. When DD went to BRIT she had a fairly lengthy journey so we offered her the option of weekly lodging. However she decided to stay at home and travel daily. No way would we have considered moving the whole family.

Luckily DD fully expects to be penniless but she's happy with that as long as she can work in the business Smile
