Hi guys, sorry for the absence been a tough couple of weeks.
Ems had a positive on the new born screening for cystic fibrosis with two mutations. We went into hospital to do the sweat test which was negative thank god. She is otherwise healthy and has no symptoms so has been given the diagnosis CFSPID (cystic fibrosis screening positive inconclusive diagnosis) which is the best we could hope for with two mutations, so we just need to crack on and live our lives and hope for the best. It’s been a really hard couple of weeks during what is already a pretty hard time as FTM, so feeling broken mentally and physically. I currently have a cold but piles and swollen knee are on the mend.
On a more positive note, we hired a doula to come a couple of times a week as we have zero family around or support. She’s an angel, and has really helped to settle the baby during the day, got her sleeping in the bassinet during the day and taking her dummy to sooth herself (although she still spits it out most the time), and she’s made us soup, overnight oats, tidies up, baby laundry etc - also currently relearning how to drive (before I subject my LO to terrible driving skills) so she takes her during those times.
I totally hear you on the ships that pass in the night. I do all the nights and DH sleeps in the next room. I really miss cuddling and closeness. But needs must. Ems sleeps next to me right now, I will try to get her in the cot but she’s sleeping so well - 5-6 hours straight, feeds at 4:30am then back to sleep for 7pm wake up. I am going to get her sleeping more regularly in the bassinet pram during the day as she seems to like it and I can rock her to sleep, then once that becomes a bit more established I will try to get her sleeping in the next to me cot so DH can come back into the bed whenever he’s not got a busy schedule with work. I can’t see that being anytime soon though!
Also calling bullshit on BF babies not needing to be winded! I think maybe it’s less needed when you boob them both laying down but they do often wake up screaming as you say @NW2021
@NW2021 sounds like you are doing amazingly with BF. It’s very early days and it does get easier I believe. I think the pumping is good to increase your supply. I give mine an 1-2 oz of warmed expressed milk before bed and it does seem to get her sleeping more deeply. I haven’t expressed for a couple of days as stressed and ill but will get back on it. Absolutely amazing you are out and about at playgroups, my babe is 5 weeks and I haven’t left the house without DH in toe.
@MyGrassIsBrowner sounds like you are doing really good, your babes look so happy and well, and happy you are feeling better with your meds. Ems is doing lots of smiles too, makes it all worthwhile.
