What's people's honest opinions/views on smoking weed whilst being a parent? When the children are in bed in the evening and you know they won't wake until the early hours... Just interested to see what other people say about it.

I think it's disgusting, I'm sure plenty will say it's fine, but I have no time for drugs. Period.

Arghlife · 19/09/2021 14:48

My cousin has just started to have the odd smoke. She had a bad reaction to the vaccine months ago and is in constant pain, turns out smoking a joint relieves pain. I don't judge her. It takes away her pain and helps her be more relaxed and able

What's your reason for hating it so much? Do you have the same opinion on having an alcoholic drink?

I have just bought a dry herb vape. It is amazing you just put a bit of herb grinded in it. Hardly gives off any smoke and doesn't need tobacco.

IsThisAkissingBook · 19/09/2021 14:53

Just to add I don't drink alcohol never have done. I don't smoke and I'm vegan. The vape I got was only £30 on amazon.

SoloISland · 19/09/2021 14:55

so when so... careful else? Why drugs now?

I smoke cannabis regularly. I dry herb vape which is amazing and I believe that cannabis is good for you. I don't drink alcohol - that really is a "drug" and should be illegal IMHO.

I live in constan t pain but would never resort to cannabis. There ARE very effective painkillers as I can attest. And safer ..she is on a slippry slope

What age are the kids? With young kids I would avoid. With my little ones there is always the possibility of something happening: nightmares, wetting the bed, not wanting to sleep.........

RoseGoldGlasses · 19/09/2021 15:02

How old are the kids

VaguelyInteresting · 19/09/2021 15:03

Not with young kids who wake in the night I wouldn’t no, particularly not in my case as LP.

Arabelladrinkstea · 19/09/2021 15:03

For me it’s far superior and more natural than alcohol or pharmaceutical drugs.
Like anything, just so long as it’s used appropriately and not in excess then it’s one of the very best and cleanest ‘medicine plants’ out there, especially if it’s home grown by yourself or someone you know

ManicPixie · 19/09/2021 15:04

Morally it’s no different to alcohol. I wouldn’t get plastered while kids were asleep under my care but a couple of drinks would be fine - same for a few puffs.

MeAndDebbieMcGee · 19/09/2021 15:05

I think it's potentially a bit risky and can be antisocial. If you can find ways to make sure it isn't either of those things ie vape using a safe known supply it's ok. In general it's not nice to be around though, for children or for neighbours, and doing it regularly can make you aggressive and a bit of a twat. So I guess as well as needing to take steps to be safe and not cause a nuisance it's best left to people who are good at self regulating and self checking, just because there isn't any (or much?) guidance around limits etc.

SomebodysMum · 19/09/2021 15:06

I developed a chronic pain condition while pregnant and I can’t wait til my daughter is old enough for me to use cannabis while she’s asleep to try to help the pain.

It’s not ideal of course, but I’d rather be using cannabis than continue my current legal opioid addiction and all the unpleasant side effects that come with it.

She’s not even 3 til November though so I’ll be waiting a fair few more years yet. So my answer really is it depends how old the kids are.

TheQueef · 19/09/2021 15:06

Not always the best route though Solo I was addicted to prescription opiates, given for a chronic condition. Had to do a full rattle to get clean. I smoke (tobacco too) and it's the only thing keeping my pain under control enough for me to work.

Mynameismargot · 19/09/2021 15:08

I'm not a fan. I know too many people with anger issues exacerbated by cannabis. We will say they are like you and smoke when the kids go to bed, by 5:30 you can see it is on their mind by the time the kids are in bed they are irritable and short tempered. If the kids stay up later then anticipated they are not able to control themselves, all they can think about is getting their fix. I know they say weed isn't physically addictive but mentally it is. I've seen some right tantrums from people when they can't get their fix.

Then there is the supply chain issue, is your cannabis ethically sourced or are kids out stabbing each other over it?

youvegottenminuteslynn · 19/09/2021 15:11

It's really sad when kids in nursery or school have clothes / belongings that stink of weed. Smokers stop smelling it so think they're the exception to that happening when they aren't.

Bellyups · 19/09/2021 15:12

I’d judge. Everyone I know who smokes weed is paranoid, depressed and/or have mental health problems.

Agreed. But you'll never convince a dopehead otherwise.
Cherpcherp · 19/09/2021 15:12

Anyone have a link for the dry herb vape?

romdowa · 19/09/2021 15:15

I don't agree with anyone being drunk or stoned while in charge of young children. But that is up to each person to decide for themselves and their children , I wouldn't have it around my kids.

......and mumsnet hits a new low. Looking for recommendations for drug paraphernalia 🤦🏻‍♀️
Bellyups · 19/09/2021 15:16

Also, as a pp mentioned, supply. It’s a bit dodgy and unethical is it. County lines, kids groomed in to gangs etc etc
