Smoking cannabis

What's people's honest opinions/views on smoking weed whilst being a parent? When the children are in bed in the evening and you know they won't wake until the early hours... Just interested to see what other people say about it.

OP posts:
santabetterwashhishands · 19/09/2021 15:56

I have one every evening. I don't drink alcohol and I don't get stoned it just chills me out 🤷‍♀️.
Can't see the problem myself.

Orangejuicemarathoner · 19/09/2021 15:59

Buying weed in the uk is supporting the worst, vile evil slade trade imaginable. Innocent children trafficked thousands of miles from home and worked to death, no proper nutrition, no medical care, no education.

No one buying cannabis in the uk can claim they care anything at all about any children or that they have any moral objection to any slave trade,

youvegottenminuteslynn · 19/09/2021 16:00

@T0rt0ise

Nope, but then I don't drink either. What if you need to drive your child to a and e?
I can't drive any more due to my epilepsy. Taxis are a pretty universal concept...

The whole 'what if your child needed hospital' thing is dripping with judgement for non-drivers when you don't know the reason people can't / don't drive. And doesn't take into account the fact there are alternatives - taxi if non life threatening, ambulance if life threatening (as it would be for most drivers too).

Are you not bothered about the supply chain ethics though?

I always thought the 'what if your child needed hospital' posters were referring to having a clear head not to physically getting there.

danadas · 19/09/2021 16:05

Without going into too much detail, I cannot fathom how a parent can reconcile with themselves supporting an industry that puts so many other parents vulnerable children at risk. If they could see the damage that criminal grooming gangs do to these children you might not feel so chilled after your spliff.

T0rt0ise · 19/09/2021 16:08

@youvegottenminuteslynn in my second post I did add taxis as an option (and I appreciate for many this is the only option for a variety of medical/environmental/financial reasons) but I also don't think the necessity to think clearly is a medical situation should be underestimated (maybe we were just very accident prone children who required a disproportionate number of trips to a and e Grin)

@Clickbait21

I smoke cannabis regularly. I dry herb vape which is amazing and I believe that cannabis is good for you. I don't drink alcohol - that really is a "drug" and should be illegal IMHO.
Do you put cannabis into the vape somehow? Please describe.

I gave up smoking tobacco years ago and don't want to start again but I would like cannabis sometimes. I always enjoyed it.

Plumtree391 · 19/09/2021 16:12

SololSland: I live in constan t pain but would never resort to cannabis. There ARE very effective painkillers as I can attest. And safer ..she is on a slippry slope
.......
Bollocks is she.

TheQueef · 19/09/2021 16:13

I have a private prescription, costs 3 x what my pal charged for his homegrown.
The legal options are prohibitive.

Rosesareyellow · 19/09/2021 16:13

When the children are in bed in the evening and you know they won't wake until the early hours...

So you know it wouldn’t be ok for them to see you stoned or for you to be looking after them during that time. The fact that you’re counting on them being asleep says it all doesn’t it? It doesn’t give me the impression that you’re just having a couple of puffs to help you relax. You can’t know they won’t wake up - even the ‘best sleepers’ wake up from time to time or could get ill during the night without much warning.

rollonmatrix · 19/09/2021 16:13

I do for pain relief.
Those saying it's disgusting it's just a plant. It's legal in many places now and what's worse a angry alcoholic or a stoner whose going to eat everything in the fridge and fall asleep on the sofa? Hmm
Way to many judgemental people on here. Alcohol is worse.

T0rt0ise · 19/09/2021 16:15

Hemlock is also just a plant... 🤦

Mymapuddlington · 19/09/2021 16:16

As a child who grew up with parents like this I think it’s truly disgusting.
It STINKS.
The house stinks, you stink, it’s choking for a small child. And yes we lived in a normal house, I was in my bedroom, they were downstairs. It was just one joint etc it was horrible to live with and they couldn’t smell it.

Plumtree391 · 19/09/2021 16:18

Smoking a bit of cannabis does not stop you being able to function though it would be unwise to drive.

As for the smell, burn a scented candle, spray air freshener, open window or back door.

I agree with rollonmatrix, alcohol, or at least excessive consumption of alcohol, is much worse.

I would love to smoke it again.

Fluffypastelslippers · 19/09/2021 16:18

So you are branding everyone who drinks alcohol as an 'angry alcoholic' in order to justify smoking weed?

Highly mature and well balanced discussion Hmm

ByTheSea · 19/09/2021 16:19

I think it's far safer than alcohol provided you don't drive and keep the dc away from the smoke/smell. If I lived in the US where I'm from, I'd qualify for a prescription. I think it should be legal, regulated and taxed.

anyoldname76 · 19/09/2021 16:20

I used to smoke it, still managed to be a productive member of society. I don't anymore, mainly because I don't have a supplier. I'd rather have a couple of joints on a weekend than a bottle of wine.

rollonmatrix · 19/09/2021 16:20

@Fluffypastelslippers what a ridiculous comment, no I'm not but it does make some people angry.
I've never seen a happy drunk. I know many happy people who smoke weed though and maintain a normal lifestyle.

Nobody is asking how 'safe' it is compared to alcohol though. Is it really so impossible for people to discuss cannabis without bringing alcohol into it?

My comment was a quote of yours. If you find it ridiculous maybe you should have a bit of a think!

Greenmarmalade · 19/09/2021 16:21

I used to smoke weed in the evenings after my kids had gone to bed. Now they’re teenagers I can’t as they’d know and not approve at all!

I would love to vape it so I don’t need to smoke tobacco too.

I find the ‘find drugs abhorrent’ thing quite bizarre when there’s a Wine and Gin emoji.

Fluffypastelslippers · 19/09/2021 16:23

I abhor drugs. It's don't see why that bizarre simply because emojis exist? Perhaps you could explain your comment here because I truly do not understand.

QueenoftheKarens · 19/09/2021 16:25

It's disgusting. Half the people who say they use it for pain relief aren't in pain, they're just using it as an excuse.
Devils lettuce for a reason!
