Was actually planning to put together an Amazon order at work today Twiglett. I want to buy DS a pirate book but its hard to decide whats suitable.

SusiS · 09/11/2004 08:56

got one present so far - for my 18mth old niece - a pack of music instruments
and need 4 more to get
and i also want to make "selfmade" calendars for grandparents with pics of ds in it
should start deciding which pictures!

ds is happily sitting in his highchair, flopping his legs all the time; had some porridge/fruitpuree for breakfast (he loved it) and he still wanted more. so i gave him a ricecake - boy, he snapped that out of my hand
is more of it around him now but he loves chewing it!

yday at that signing class i had to put him on the mat to fill in a form. another boy crawled up to him, got hold of ds' foot and sucked on it - ds didn't mind, he got hold of another boys hand and started pulling him over...

SusiS · 09/11/2004 09:01

and darth vader is back
ds has a blocked nose again but doesn't seemed to be bothered just yet.
i caught a cold myself. with everything that comes along with it (sore throat, cough, nose)
but ds doesn't care yet; gotta go and play with him

On the subject of Christmas presents - what are you second time Mums doing? We've got tons of baby toys in the loft and I've been given loads of hand-me-downs so DD doesn't really need anything. And people keep asking me what she wants for Christmas. DS says she wants Santa to bring her a fire engine and since we've got a V-tec wobbly wheels one that we got him for his first Christmas in the loft I'm going to get it out and wrap it.

linnet · 09/11/2004 11:39

I have no baby toys left over from when dd1 was a baby. Dd1 keeps asking what Santa will bring for dd2. To be honest I don't see the point in buying her anything from Santa as I know that she will be inundated with presents from family and friends and there is only so much a 7 month old baby needs toy wise. But for the sake of dd1 we will have to get a few little things from Santa, else dd1 might get suspicious. This may be the last year tht dd1 gets anything from Santa anyway Now that she's older the doubts start to creep in usually fueled by older kids at school.

Dd2 had a yogurt for breakfast this morning, she seemed to like it. It was banana flavour, she hasn't had banana before so it was a whole new experience.

Spots how is dd this morning? I hope you both had an ok night.

Well, got to go get ready for my driving lesson. Will chat later.
Was it Prufrock who was sitting her driving test sometime around now? If it was how did you get on Prufrock?

libb · 09/11/2004 12:09

Yoohoo ladies! have you got the kettle on? I'm parched and have been starved of internet time - did you miss me? humph, thought as much!

Welcome Helsy, I hope you can keep up with this lot - we love a good natter, so much so that we have a hidden thread that will never be seen . . . .

Cat, I loved your movie but I couldn't hear the giggles - you can imagine that I am somewhat peeved but I am so pleased to see your little darling, she looks more and more like DP every day! yours that is, not mine . . .

Twiglett, those suits were brilliant - I would be very interested! Are you hoping to sell a couple? I think finding personalised stuff for Reuben is going to be a challenge otherwise . . .

Georgina, really glad your feeding is going well - DS hasn't started weaning much at all to be honest as I rarely see him, we try to tackle it at the weekend and he takes a diddy pot of yoghurt each day to the childminder just as a taster. He does do the windmill thing when the spoon comes out so I guess he has an idea of what is coming. It would still appear that I am lagging big time compared to you guys

Spots and Susi, hope your little ones feel better soon xxx

Judd - blimey! hmm - will have a think about Dave's boss . . .

We had fireworks in the garden - DS was cool as a cat, very nonchalent and placid - as with most stuff. To be honest it does worry me a little, I hope it doesn't mean too much and that he is just a mellow fellow.

Glad you are all well and hope I didn't miss anyone in my acknowledgements . . .

Hello lovely libb, good to hear from you...

DD was sick again in the night. Very big bleeurgh after a night feed, all over me! I wanted her to have some water but she really won' take it, so I had to let her go back to sleep completely empty. Then when she woke at 4 I gave her a teeny feed and took her on a solemn walk around the house while she digested it, to stop her crying for mor. Slept on her floor to appease paranoia! She seems to be ok today, and is feeding now hence bad typing. She just loves her milk too much. Anyone elkse have/had problems giving water?

Judd #I can't wait to see the creative genius you have applied yourself to in your non mumsnet time...

Cat you are obviously a woman who doesn't do things by halves. This crazy xmas dinner stunt is the sort of thing only a puppy owning toddler mum would attempt... and only someone who ggets xmas shopping done before mid november AND PUTS RIBBONS ON IT could pull it off!!

Egypt · 09/11/2004 14:39

hello all, am trying to see your suits twiglett, but downloading update on windows media player, - in the hope that can finally see all of cat's movie on antiquated pc ! so lots of sloooow action at mo.

finally pc fixed anyway and back home from parents. dd woke every....wait for it.........1 1/2 hours last night. aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh

trying 3 meals a day from today. have bought some farley's recipe heinz babyrice with pear and raspberry and fruit and yogurt. the rice one you make with milk, the other with water. are these ok? they are gluten etc free but i think do contain sugar. am i looking for a chemical name? or just 'sugar' ?

cat82 · 09/11/2004 15:05

Hi everybody

Well i woke up today with my knee swollen to twice it's size and absolutly agonizing, i can hardley walk! and Kiera refuses to listen to me moan about it! I'm off to the doctors this afternoon.

Kiera's letting me know that her non-teeth are hurting her, poor thing. I'm calgel-ing at random, and it does seem to be improving.

Spots- Kiera hates water, she really doesn't drink that much AT ALL. Aren't you lovely to have slept on her floor?! I'm glad she seems a little better today, though i bet your back is sore this morning! I am dreading Christmas with my family! (they are rather demanding) which is why i have decided to do the crazy christmas dinner practice- i am desperatly hoping your right and i can pull it off!

Libb-Lovely to hear from you, i've been wondering where you are!

Linnet- yeah, Prufrock was meant to be sitting her test soon...wonder where she is and how she got on.

Susi- poor you with another cold i'm such a wimp when i have them. I just sit curled up on the sofa whimpering and feeling sorry for myself. Rest as much as DS will let you
Does DS have teeth btw? if not are rice cakes easy to dissolve in the mouth then? i was a little worried about choking, but really want to try them. Well done with the self made cards!

Twiglett....you buy them and i'll wrap, i'll take half a body suit in payment

Speak later when i've hobbled back from the docs. bottom lips starts wobbling as cat limps off snuffling quietly

xxxxx

SusiS · 09/11/2004 17:33

oh cat!! hope you get better soon? what did the gp say???? how do you cope with kiera now?
ds never liked wather either. i give it in a cup now (not a nonspill one!) have to help him though. but let him try ever so often too. it's just water
and yes, ds has got 2 teeth. but i think she would manage ricecakes without. just lots of spit - and i always stay with him! he does sometimes the odd choke but not serious really. i mostly let him get on with it and he manages just fine

good to have you back egypt and libb
and all you other ladies

cat82 · 09/11/2004 18:06

Oh bugger. Doc thinks i've torn some cartilidge in my knee quite badly, she said she could feel quite a bit of water on it, and has reffered me to a knee specialist, and to have some physio. She thinks they put a camera in there to look around, and then maybe operate. I say again:
Oh bugger.

Susi- well i'm okay with Kiera, apart from being a tad pre occupied with pain i just have to not run around to much- and it takes me a loooong time to get up the stairs to put her down for a nap and for me to go to the loo! Oh and i can't get down to floor level and back up, unless i'm clinging onto something for support, so she's unable to go on her play mat, because i can't pick her up again! poor thing is now spending a lot of time in her swing, or her spot on the sofa!
Apart from that, all is normal
How's your cold?

xxxx

spots · 09/11/2004 20:12

How did that happen Cat? the knee?

SusiS · 09/11/2004 21:12

well, dp just got me a hot lemon
that always does the trick!
cough is almost gone and throat is much better.
just a bad sniff left

hope you don't have to get an operation!!!
oh, since ds birth i mostly have to cling on to something if i want to get up from floor.
and sometimes knee hurt like mad
but nothing swollen! - bet it's all that rocking and dancing about with ds

fingers crossed with specialist!

kbaby · 09/11/2004 21:55

Hi,

Twiglett the vests look lovely. I am impressed.

Susis, im not sure if you will be able to take a video camera into swimming. We took our camera and once the life guard spotted it they told us we werent allowed to take any photos due to data protection! luckily i had already taken 2 before they noticed and I think its more to do with peodophile rather than data protection. My friend takes her ds swimming and even asked all other mums if they minded her taking a picture of her ds and the life guard still said no.

Ha Ha Ha. DP has this week off work and is looking after DD for the week. Apparently yesterday was a breeze and he didnt know what I was moaning about. But today I came home to find the house a tip and DP and DD lying on the settee. It seems that DD was in a bit of a mood all day and wouldnt let DP out of her sight or let him put her down. I had to bite my tongue and stop saying 'told you so'

Still trying to find something that DD doesnt like. She may be small but she dont half eat. At the moment we have 1/4 rusk for breakkie, 2 cubes potato, 1 cube green bean/carrot, 1 cube swede/corguette. Then tea is 2 cubes baby rice and 2 cubes fruit. Every new thing I give her she likes. Advocado next week so im holding out hope on that being the one she doesnt like.

xmas shopping yeek!! only bought one thing so far and that was a push along trolley thing for DD. Im the type of person who just goes into cardiff and buys everything all in one day. Need to try and think about what to get though.
Cat82 were also cooking xmas dinner for the first time. Im doing it for 8 people, ive never even done a sunday dinner before. I think the fact that I think its really easy to do is stopping me from stressing out. That will be until nearer xmas when I will realise that I dont even know how to carve a turkey and that its a lot more to it than I think.

Spots hope DD is better

Not sure if this is just me but ive been looking at the gf weaning and the annabel book and have been looking at the foods they eat from 6 months on. They all seem so grown up! how can my little girl be expected to eat pasta or sanwiches. she's my baby. It just doesnt feel right to give her foods that I would eat. On the other hand what if the foods I cook arent suitable. Up to now ive cooked all her purees but when she can start having bolognaise etc I use a jar of dolmio sauce surely thats not suitable for her?? Anyone.
How do I know what foods I eat are suitable for her. We tend to have lots of chicken with casseroll sauces.

Cat hope your knee is a bit better.

Not too sure but i think DD may be waving TA TA. When I wave at her she sort of sticks her hand out and moves it slightly. Then again it could be me looking for things that arent really there iyswim.

libb · 09/11/2004 23:35

Flipping 'eck Georgina, talk about slinky mitts! Mine look like I have spent my life gutting fish for Captain Birdseye (and I tend to to sound like I have too)!

and me. a trained typist ... (that sounded better in my head believe me!)

SusiS · 10/11/2004 08:44

good morning everybody!

wow libb; how do you manage to stay up that late
egypt: it's sort of a private pool; in a school me thinks. one other mum told me she'd taken a video though i'll try too
oh, and she also told me that the teacher gets a professional in ever so often to take under water pictures. can't wait

had a reasonable night.
i squeeze him between 2 towel rolls lately and that sort of prevents him from rolling over. (he still manages sometimes; but mostly when dp forgets to squeeze him in)
but he still wakes about 2 times a night and just starts crying heartbreakingly.
well, i know now he is not on his front though i should try not to go to him then big sigh
will let you know.

oh, and he's got his bright red cheeks back!
and is a bit grumpy and whiney sometimes and hands permanently in mouth. so maybe another tooth???

i also had to change the routine again.
he started to shift here and there and just changed everything
so down to 3 bottles and times for solids changed and naptimes too. - we'll see

he's learnt something new. he sticks out his toungue; really wide - guess what dp and ds are playing lately all day long!!

and we also sit down together for breakfast!
ds and i that is. (dp is in bed)
i always give him his meals at the table and try to eat something myself. - and i also make dp eat at the table - just to give a good example

Bozza · 10/11/2004 09:24

kbaby I would worry about the salt content in the adult jar and packet sauces so would definitely not give them until at least one. I started DS on pureed chicken at 6 months but somehow DD doesn't seem ready. Am going to start her on fromage frais, ready brek etc next week when she hits 6 months.

When I'm working she has her tea at nursery at 4.30 as does DS. Then when we get home DH and I eat at about 6 - 6.15 and DS joins us at the table and has some fruit. Well last night DD was not impressed at all and started shouting at me until I quickly defrosted her some squash and apple - so she ended up on four meals.

How much milk is your DS taking now then Susi? I sometimes worry that DD is not getting enough (until I remember the middle of the night snacks that is ;)).

Cat really sorry about your knee. Hope you get some improvement soon.

SusiS · 10/11/2004 10:04

yes i was concerned about milkintake too.
so i increased the 3 bottles to 8oz/6oz/8oz - and try to mix in the odd oz with his meal
they say minimum is 21oz - right??
up to what age actually??

Bozza · 10/11/2004 10:09

I think the 21oz (600ml) is right up until 12 months Susi. Although I think because you are giving him yoghurts as well that will be adding towards his dairy intake. DD took 13 oz of formula yesterday (spread over 3 bottles but only 1oz at the last one) but she also had four (?? I think sometimes loose track in the night) breast feeds so I should think she got up to the total. I'm thinking that next week I might introduce a yoghurt and drop that third bottle (she's having two bottles in an afternoon).

Susi what a good iidea, having your breakfast with ds. Getting into the notion that eating is sociable. Maybe I will try that with dd. But for now we are lagging behind on the solids, because she just isn't eating well enough to move on. Not really measuring in cubes, but she only has a few spoons before hollering for a breastfeed. Except on the odd occasion, with avocado! Which she loves. The sickness thing hasn't helped. Hardly had any solids this week at all. She had some caarott and rice last night, but then was sick again. On th e plus side, she drank water on waking prior to little mini feed. Must have been thirsty.

SusiS · 10/11/2004 10:18

yes, the last bottle was my problem too. he would take only 3-4oz - and only after 9pm anyways!
so i dropped the 3pm bottle and he has it at 7pm instead. and all 3 bottles topped up to come to the minimum.
as i said i just changed to this routine - have to see and wait

all 4 bf at night??????
you must be shattered!

cat82 · 10/11/2004 10:26

Hi everyone

Well my knee is still throbbing like mad- and i have to vacume the sodding stairs today which i HATE doing, cause we've got freinds coming over tonight. However after a couple of glasses of wine and some painkillers (thanks for that tip Georgina ) i did get a reasonable nights sleep, and when i came down this morning dp had lit our fire and it was lovely and warm and crakly (sp!) which made me feel all chrimstmassy and nice

Kbaby- Well the two times i have practice cooked the whole thing, it hasn't been toooo chaotic, BUT (and this is a big but) because dp and i are cooking it together and wanted to practice together it was done while Kiera was in bed, with a mibile phone alarm in the sitting room going off periodicaly as a kind of Kiera subsitute, do dp and i were inerrupted and had to go and "see" to it. (No i'm not joking. This is how stressed i am about family dinner, we have to cover all problems, just in case. Yep, i am very sad)
I know what you mean about the grown up food thing, we're trying to follow GF weaning but it's gone out of the window slightly since the blender blow up, which we still haven't got btw! I think with the pasta, when they're 6 months a couple of those spiral shaped bit, with a very small amout of grated cheese on top would be okay. That's what i've imagined doing for dd anyway.

Susi- So glad your cold is a bit better

Spots- Absolutly no idea how i did this! The doctor said i may have done it ages ago, and the only thing i can think of is when we went to Bali 4 YEARS AGO, and i fell of a speedboat (!), when i was pulled back on board i whacked my knee very hard against the side, while kicking madly, and i was in terrible pain for a loooong time, but an x ray didn't reveal anything. However after gp informed me that an x ray wouldn't pick up on cartelidge problems anyway, i'm wondering if that was it.

I'll shall be back after i've hobbled up the stairs carrying a stupidly heavy dyson vacum cleaner

Hope everyone's okay!

xxxx

Egypt · 10/11/2004 10:37

morning all.

cat sorry to hear about your knee but how did you do it gal!?

second night of nightmarish feeding frenzy. dh was away so put her in my bed and she woke and cried every hour. yes shoved the boob in and she drank gallons. far more than throughout the day. i am well and truly stuffed. what the 'eck am i going to do? she woke 7 ish (only an hour after last feed) and my mum got up with her. after being awake she wasnt interested in a feed until 10 and then not really very much. she's well and truly mucked up. heeelp?!!

am i sposed to be dropping bf in the day now she is on solids? i dont want to until 6 months and am sure i shouldnt be. anyway, feels like i am because she just doesnt want it. except all night.

Confused [peed off]

Egypt · 10/11/2004 10:39
