I REALLY want to see it Cat! But taking such a long time to download... only 1% after ages... will try again another time. Our computer is so antiquated.

Just had baby party! What a hoot. Had eight babies, three toddlers and, um, fifteen adults? Absolutely gorgeous, all of them... all so different, all so fascinated by everything... the biggest baby 9 months with big brown eyes and dark skin already getting curls in his hair, the littlest tightfast asleep in his carrier at one month... we had a hedgehog baby and a comedian baby and a bigfooted skinny boy and a rolypoly pinkcheeked girl all so xxxxxxxxkiss kissy, oooh... DD did brilliantly well, she was one of the older ones and conversed in rasps, so that she had a frothy chin for the duration. We ate soup that everybody could eat except the milkies, so for the first time DD and I shared a plateful! I do wish you could all have been there, it would have been lovely. And we have so much food left over, you could all have had some ... would anybody like a bit of cake?

helsy · 07/11/2004 23:17

Thanks for the nice welcome! Am going to try dd2 with a cup and see how that goes - after I've got a few more foods down her (so far she's had carrot, potato, parsnip, apple, pear and loves it all). Dh has a banana allergy, otherwise I'd try that too. Anyone try avocado, broccoli or sweetcorn before 6 months? Don't know about anyone else but I can't remember ANY of what we did with dd1 four years ago...

linnet · 07/11/2004 23:34

Helsy my dd1 is 7 so I can't remember what we did with her when it came to weaning either, except that we put her on jars as we were both working full time and didn't have time to puree.

I was trying to find something for dd2 to have for breakfast today in the supermarket. I looked at all the packets of breakfast type things and they all had sugar in them so I guess it's still babyrice and applepuree. Roll on 6 months so I can start giving her baby porridge.

Has anyone given their baby yogurt yet? I bought some danone baby yogurts today but not sure if I should give them to her or not.

Kbaby do you think I could borrow your dd so she can show mine how to move round on her tummy to get to things? Dd2 gets onto her tummy and she tries to move round to get things but hasn't managed it yet, except for when she's in her cot and gets stuck!

I also have the avent cup, dd2 doesn't understand though that she still has to suck it even though it's not a bottle teat. Might try taking the valve out to try and get some water into her.

good morning everybody!
awww spots: that sounds so much fun!! and cake this way anytime

yes linnet: ds gets danone baby joghurt for 2 months now - he loves it
started with fromage frais yday

helsy: ds loves broccoli and had the odd sweetcorn mixed in; not so keen on avocado. he does eat it, it just takes longer
how about butternut squash or sweet potato? steam it well and then you can easily squash it with a fork.

georgina: i'd love for ds to be able to blow rasberry - we are not there yet
aren't they just cute when they laugh about themselves!!

do your lo's get sick ever so often during the day too??? i just wonder when it will stop.
i change him a few times a day and my clothes too

spots · 08/11/2004 10:52

DD is unwell. poor lamb... vomiting in a real grownup way, not like her refluxy possetty stuff.. this takes muscle, and goes everywhere. Feel very first time mum-ish about it. what to do??? I rang NHS24 and they said guve water but she doesn't really DO water very well, just wants to breastfeed after vomiting and that so far has just come straight back up againn. oh dear...

GeorginaA · 08/11/2004 11:46

spots - keep breastfeeding - your antibodies will help her recover. However, the fact it sounds like she's not holding anything down - I'd take her to your GP today just to be sure. Can you get an emergency appt this afternoon?

OP posts:
GeorginaA · 08/11/2004 11:47

(oh, and I'm a second time mum and things like this still freak me out so don't think you're being overly protective... well, you might be... but in good company at least!)

OP posts:
GeorginaA · 08/11/2004 12:07

Okay.... ds2 is not totally impressed with carrot... (I kept shovelling it back in though... MEAN mummy )

OP posts:
helsy · 08/11/2004 12:17

GeorginaA - Are you mixing the carrot with rice? I did that before giving the carrot on it's own - less of a shock.
Spots - I'd take her to the GP and keep breastfeeding too but also give her boiled cooled water if you can.
DD2 is currently rolling like a spinning top and "talking" to her reflection in a mirror on her playmat. Just thought I'd share that. V cute.

GeorginaA · 08/11/2004 12:43

I should have done really, oh well I think part of the problem was that he woke really early this morning (5.30am) and didn't sleep his morning nap so he was WAY overtired and grumpy. Probably would have been far happier having a doze and a cuddle on the boob.

OP posts:
cat82 · 08/11/2004 14:24

Hi everyone

ahem CHRISTMAS SHOPPING IS DONE AND WRAPPED WITH BOWS AND EVERYTHING!! Hurrah!!

Spots, yeah, i'd take her to the gp and give water if she'll take it as well. You baby party sounds brilliant! That's the kind of thing we should do if we manage our May meet up. Just a suggestion but maybe we could all club together and hire somewhere for an afternoon or something?

Helsy, we have tried avacado and brocolli, Kiera was absolutly NOT a fan of either. Lots of funny faces though Not sure about sweetcorn, anybody?

Egypt, Ummmmm.....may have to get back to you on that one!! If you have a homepage, with movies on it, you can create a link typing \link{YOUR HOMEPAGES WEB ADRESS.CO.UK\WHAT EVER YOU WANT TO CALL YOUR LINK}
The capital letters is the stuff you need to put in yourself, obvioulsy don't copy that part If that doesn't make any sense, and lets face it, it probably doesn't, i will check it out with dp-like we did with your pics that time!

Georgina, i never mix new food with baby rice or anything either. Kiera HATES baby rice anyway

Take care everyone!
xxxxx

Twiglett · 08/11/2004 18:29

Hi all

Can I use our thread to show off?

Thought so ...

I, who have never been arty at all, have found since having children that I actually can do stuff .. I am constantly amazed at how easy I'm finding it ... I remember being laughed at in art class and gave it up when we had to choose o'levels (yep I'm that old)

Anyway I've been decorating baby suits .. what do you reckon

spots · 08/11/2004 18:47

Twiglett, those are lovely. Well done! Did you use fabric paints or what? The girl herself looks suitably chuffed with hers! When have you found the time?

DD stopped being sick after about 11.30 and just slept loads, so I didn't make an appointment for her... she seemed sort of ok tho tired and crotchety. Thanks for the advice Georgina, Helsy and Cat. She has gone to bed a little earlier than normal. Hopefully will sleep it off. But I can't shake a paranoia about her being sick and choking in the night. Would I hear her???

Cat...!!!...xmas presents...what was your top gift that you can't wait to be opened?

LucyJones · 08/11/2004 18:55

sorry just popping in from the april thread to say Twiglett you really should sell those, you have talent!!!

GeorginaA · 08/11/2004 18:57

Twiglett, I'm in awe! And cat I'm insanely jealous.

Actually, I've been sitting here thinking of you both and muttering to myself "WHERE do they find the TIME?!" and feeling a disorganised mess.

Then I realised that:
a) I was writing a 50k novel in a month
b) trying to do a City & Guilds Photography course and get in the habit of taking daily photographs
c) organising a naming ceremony (badly)
d) going around looking at schools for ds1.

BLOODY HELL, where do I find the time?!!

OP posts:
SusiS · 08/11/2004 19:46

guess i am the only uncreative one here
but when DO you all find the time???

been to babysigning today! seems like ds was a bit overwhelmed! he was allright at the beginning but 10 into it he started crying and turning away. - he doesn't have much contact with other babies. that's another reason why i went there!
was quite funny though. lots of singing and dancing around for 30 min (quite exhausting because you are supposed to throw your lo about and dance with him and do all those games together) - and afterwards we all got tea and buiscuits and the kids got toys to play with.
was really nice
will deff go again; hope ds will take it easier next time!

well done cats! i managed to get one present so far

wow twiglett! what a great idea!!!
and aren't the lo's just proud of their pretty suits

on sunday i'll start babyswimming.
can't wait to see ds face
might take dp with us to get it videoed!

and ds was really strange today
had a 3hour nap 9-12; missed his lunch because i had to fit in his bottle. then we went to that signing class and when we came back 2hours later he was tired again. very grumpy and whiney.
managed to give him tea though but at 5 he was tired again
and he does touch his left ear quite alot!!
hope he is allright

Judd · 08/11/2004 19:56

Hello everybody! Not been on for a while.....I asked dh to block me from Mumsnet because I was getting absolutely nothing done and then whingeing about it! He's unlocked this one thread for me but I can't get onto any others unless I can crack his password ("Dave's Boss"....any clues anybody???).
I've just read through the last load of messages to get myself up to date and wanted to say the following....AHEM:-

  1. Spots - hope dd is better
  2. Egypt - Weetabix at 6 months coz it has gluten in it
  3. Cat - couldn't open clip - boo. Have AD's kicked in yet? I took mine for a good 9 months after dd was born, best thing I did.
  4. Twiglett - bodysuits are gorgeous!
  5. Helsy - hello! (and to everyone else too) DS is doing fine. Has now reached the frankly ridiculous weight of 27lb. He's not lardy though..just very big! Cannot roll but has learnt to get legs up onto play gym arch and rabbit kick the objects. Also sits up very well and I've been feeding him in his high chair. We pretended he was 6 months old on Saturday (actually its tomorrow) and cracked on with protein. I just wanted to get a good run at it with dh around - he's going abroad next week so I want a good variety of tried and tested stuff by then with no worry of allergies suddenly cropping up. Right, got to go and label up all my goods for the NCT sale next week - all the newborn stuff that ds never even managed to squeeze his big toe into!
cat82 · 08/11/2004 19:57

Twiglett- wow, they are gorgeous!! i don't have a single arty bone in bbody and am very jelous of anyone who has!

Georgina- Absolutly right you do LOADS more than i do-which is probably why i can find the time!

Spots- I'm pleased your little one seems a bit better hon. As for tonight, i don't think there's a danger of choking. Purley because kiera is sometimes sick at night, and it just seems to come out and stay out. I think they cough better if something tickles there throats as well. I'm sure she'll be fine. I know it's worrying though.
I think the best prezzie is.....probably my grandads. I got him a silver pen and engraved it with to grandad love Cat on it. I think he'll be really touched

I am beginning to panic actualy, I'm doing christmas dinner for 7 people this year, ALL of my family (apart from my mother in Australia)!! dp and i have done 2 practice christmas dinners so far! (all gone well, so fingers crossed for the real thing!)

I am feeling pretty light and floaty at the moment. Could be one of two things a) The ad's are kicking in seriously early or b) Sooo relieved i don't have to fight billions of Christmas shoppers

Anyway guys, hope you're all okay.
xxxx

cat82 · 08/11/2004 20:04

Judd-hello! Nice to see you again

27lbs! blimey, poor kiera still only weights about 15lbs.

I'm not too sure if they've kicked in or not yet (i've been on them before for about 2 years)i do feel quite light and floaty (see below post ) and not quite as tearfull, so fingers crossed..

xxx

GeorginaA · 08/11/2004 20:24

spots - please don't worry, but do check at least before you go to bed. Not from a choking point of view though. (as cat says, she'll just turn her head and spew ..um actually, cat said it nicer than me )

[horrid anecdote alert] once ds1 was quite sick in the night (he was about 1 year old) and he just went to the other end of the cot and fell back asleep - didn't call out or anything.

It obviously didn't bother him, but I walked in at 10pm and the room REEKED! It was horrid... shudder. I check on them both obsessively before I go to sleep now .

OP posts:
Twiglett · 08/11/2004 21:37

Thanks for lovely compliments .. I'm glad you like them cos I've been giving some out as pressies and I was wondering if people were saying they liked them cos they have to .. I assume you'd tell the truth .. they are fun to do though

Twiglett · 08/11/2004 21:38

Cat .. I've done 4 gifts so far ... only 18 more to go then I can start working on my direct family .. am v. jealous of your organisation (swap you a baby suit for you doing my shopping and wrapping for me )

linnet · 08/11/2004 21:39

Twiglett those bodysuits are great you should sell them. I'm not in the least bit arty dh is though and dd1 likes to draw.

I bought three christmas presents today went to get something for dd1 though and it was sold out so will have to wait for it to come in. Now just have to figure out what else to buy then get it bought, hidden, wrapped etc. Want it all done before I go back to work.

Well, today I booked a holiday to Florida for next years October holidays It's so far away but we got a really good deal through my cousin who is a travel agent and it seemed to good to miss. But it's a big secret so Ssshhh don't tell dd1 we're not going to tell her until we're getting on the plane, lol

I also wonder where everybody gets the time to do all these creative things like writing novels, designing baby clothes. Today I seemed to spend all day changing nappies and trying to quieten dd2 who's teeth were bothering her. I have so much to do before going back to work. Need to try and find the time to paint dd2's bedroom so we can move her into it, need to do some decluttering in dd1's bedroom before christmas and as usual there are the big piles of photo's to be put into albums, filing paperwork that never seems to get done, and the list goes on and on and on.

Spots I'm sure your dd will be fine if babies need to be sick they just bring it right up.

Cat haven't watched your little video yet but will do later.

Judd nice to see you. Are you getting loads done now your blocked from mumsnet, maybe I should do that and then I'd be able to get everything done

Bozza · 08/11/2004 21:56

Can't believe you're all so organised. Christmas shopping going really badly. Went on Saturday morning alone and managed to get some smellies from M&S for an aunt in a nursing home and that was it.

I think I'm still coming to terms with being back at work. Have bought some packs of Christmas cards from ELC and DS and I have done five so far (another 5 to go).

I've given DD avacado which she seems happy to take although I mix it with plenty of formula. Gave her some pear as finger food today as well which she enjoyed although I had to hold it because it was too slippy for her. Weetabix is said to be OK from 6 months but I held off it for a bit longer because it does contain salt (I think) and started with the ready brek. The Boots porridge only has one additive which is thiamin so I think thats OK. Have taken to adding a cube of prunes to it for the sake of keeping DD regular.

Georgina my DS has done the same - slept in a pool of sick - and not only did the room stink but DS was covered in a rash from where he'd been laid in it - all over the side of his face and his chest (he was sleeping on his front by this point).

Twiglett · 09/11/2004 08:29

No No No .. there is only one way to do christmas shopping

ONLINE

looking for all the no postage deals

over £19 on Amazon
over £40 on Boots
over £70 on Ocado (Waitrose)
ELC's special offers on the 3 for 2s kind of negate the delivery I feel (and you can stock up for next year's birthdays)
Toys R Us do decent deals too

also you can normally get them delivered direct to the place you'll be spending christmas
