morning!
feeling very tired today! will ds every sleep through??? he doesn't need feeding but he wakes up so often!!! last night 11/2/3/4/5/5.30 and finally 7.30
i realised he does sleep on his tummy; which is fine with me; but every time he wakes up and finds out he gets annoyed and calls out.
maybe i should just leave him and see if he goes back to sleep? or he might just start crying and getting distressed and won't go back to sleep at all?

meetup sounds great! haven't met anybody from mumsnet though yet ...

MrsDoolittle · 25/10/2004 10:42

spots - you are probably right. I made up the spelling. My sister has just got married to a pilot. Is there a RAF base where you are thinking of?

MrsDoolittle · 25/10/2004 10:44

Spots I have been thnking just like you. I thought if we met up, supposing we didn't like each other. Which is why I was wondering if you had met up?

i was wondering the same about a meetup too! i'm sure it'll be great and weird at the same time. strange that i dont tell anyone as much as i tell you lot about dd. of course anyone would get totally p**ed off and tell me to shut up, but you know what each and every stage feels like.

ended up with dd in bed with me last night. dh has gone home to work, and i am still at mums in norwich. at 1am she was really upset, v unusual. she slept the rest of the night in bed with me but it made for a restless night really, as although she settled back to sleep easier with me nearby, every move or noise she made woke me and i tried to shove boob in prob a bit too much! how do you bf lying down comfortable and sleep? i find it so difficult. mum's taken her for a walk in the pram now.

hey, dont buy a candy dryer. oops am i allowed to say that on here? the second one i got is not working and i have to get a third. of course not that make again. and argos want me to pay the difference if i chose a more expensive one. poor. it has to be, the candy was the cheapest. mad mad mad mad

are u online at work kbaby? hope today goes well

prufrock · 25/10/2004 11:50

I've done meet-ups, and loved them. Alcohol usually helps to breakdown inhibitions. People tend to use Mumsnet names, even though they introduce themselves with real names, as it's just too difficult to remember real names. And as we saw with amfs, you are so identified by your mumsnet name.

I will be buying pear and carrot tomorrow ready for 11am on Wednesday. Actually quite excited, and ds is too - he was sat in his bumbo on the table whilst we were having dinner last night and kept trying to grab our forks. And he woke twice - not sure if he's starting another cold or getting hungry again. Have you carried on with the rice twiglett?

If cheeks are red I think it's definately teething, and I figure he can't od on calgel so use it just in case.

SusiS · 25/10/2004 12:04

ds still hasn't got another tooth!!! playing up on and off for months now; nothing's happening...
the first 2 teeth happened so quickly and without any problem at all - but now

had to video ds yday when he was in his doorbouncer! he was just hillarious! jumping like mad and twirling around and laughing. nice one to show his girlfriends later

he also seems to be much hungrier now. don't last as long between feeds and want more too!
wonder if there is another growthspurt lined up?
anybode else experiencing it???

prufrock: good luck on the weaning front

he's cut his morning nap short again (only 1hour) and wanted another one now.
isn't it difficult to stick to your plans you've made???

spots · 25/10/2004 19:45

Teeth must take ages then, as DD has had red cheeks and dribbling with her chompy habits for about a month. Someone told me that the first lot were the worst, and the back ones... everything else just does its stuff quietly.

Susi, sorry you're having such exciting nights. What DO you do when he wakes, if he doesn't want feeding? Does he take long to settle?

Egypt, when I b/f lying down I have to have a pillow behind my back because I find the angle you have to hold your pelvis at to keep the nipple level with the mouth is downright UNNATURAL. I don't like it much, which is my main reason for not co-sleeping.

Mrs D., yes, RAF Leuchars. I feel a tourist guide moment coming on...

We went swimming today at a hotel where my aunt is staying. DD concentrated so very hard on splashing with her little fists, and was sweet in her little pink trunks. Her eyes got all red from the water but she doidn't seem to care, it was all so interesting.

SusiS · 25/10/2004 20:05

weird thing with them teeth! ds has bright red cheeks on and off - and no sign of another tooth! (the first 2 teeth bottom i almost didn't realise so unspectacular have they been )

spots: he is very easy to settle; most times he is on his tummy and i only have to turn him over and he is asleep before i even leave! - maybe a grobag would prevent him from rolling over???

i can't wait for us to go swimming! especially since ds just loves water!! he wets everything when in the bath - splashing with arms and legs like mad

but first i want to see how gymbabes goes. signed up with a group tumbletots!

SusiS · 26/10/2004 10:10

what a difference!! put ds in his grobag last night (although it really is getting too small ) BUT he woke only once at 3 (quick pat and he was off again) and again at 6; took him into my bed and we had another hour sleep

and he is soooo hungry lately!
yday dinner he ate half a jar turkey+2cubes veggies and semolina+2cubes fruits and was still hungry; so he got a joghurt as well

and he also is getting quite hard to entertain lately! nothing really takes his interest for too long. he always wants something new.

oh and i think ds got "assembled" incorrectly!
his head is the wrong way around!!!
he always turns his head to see what is behind him

Bozza · 26/10/2004 14:03

Well back to work today so have managed to catch up on all these messages. Had a really busy weekend so was overtired and stressed (trying to make sure everything was in place) yesterday. So actually feel much better today. Had to nip out to Asda in my lunch break because DD has not got enough clothes. All her presents were in the newborn/0-3 sizes and although I've been given lots of hand-me-downs they seem to be largely trousers/pinafore dresses so bought her some tops. Have not rung nursery yet so will indulge myself shortly I think.

Have started weaning DD and she's up to 3 meals a day (babyrice, fruit and veg only) but was still on 7 feeds a day until I introduced formula at the weekend. She has now dropped a daytime feed but is still feeding twice at night(6 in total). Not sure what to do about it.

libb · 26/10/2004 18:32

Bozza, I had no idea you were going back to work - I feel quite guilty about my banging on about it the other week - must be the closet drama queen in me!

DS was a devil yesterday - decided to take a mega sleep in the afternoon (over 3 hours and was then woken, would've carried on if it wasn't for mummy turning up) but didn't go down last night until 11pm or so! he was then asleep at 6 this morning so I had to wake him for his feed before heading off to work - he tried to have another sleep this afternoon but the childminder only let him have 1.5 hours. He has such a busy social life now so I am not surprised he feels worn out . . . today was the leisure centre to have a sit in the ball bath thingy with the CM and then he watched the boys swimming. Tomorrow it is the cinema to see Thunderbirds, she is confident he will be fine so fingers crossed. I think he will be bored when all kids go back to school! the boys were having a competition to see how many smiles they could get from him, one got 2 and the other got 1. They were amused by the shrieking - for about 3 minutes . . . .

linnet · 26/10/2004 22:34

Hey everyone,

Bozza how do you manage to get your dd to eat 3 meals a day? What do you give her?

I started weaning dd2 last week, pureed up some apple and froze it and then did potato as well. She loves apple and looks for more. Wouldn't eat the potato, so tried mixing it with some carrot but she still wouldn't eat it. Yesterday I pureed some pears and some turnip. I tried her with potato and turnip tonight but she wasn't very impressed but seemed to like the pear.

I started off giving her just apple once a day then by the end of last week was trying to give her apple around lunchtime then veg at dinnertime but she wasn't very impressed by the veg. At the weekend I bought a jar of organic mixed veg and she still wasn't impressed by that. But boy does she love her apple, lol

I'm not quite sure how to put her onto 3 little meals a day. with dd1 I was back at work when she was weaned so she just got jars and wolfed most of them down. We used to give dd1 creamed porridge for breakfast but I think she was over 6 months when we did that so want to wait until dd2 is over six months before introducing gluten. I had a look at the jars in ASDA but they mostly seemed to be veg with chicken or meat, can you start them on meat this early? I have no idea what I did with dd1 it was so long ago I've forgotten. anyone able to advise?
And has anyone given their baby a rusk yet? dd1 was eating crisps tonight and dd2 was looking at her as if to say where's mine? I'm not sure if she's old enough to be given a rusk to try and chomp on yet? again anyone got any ideas?
I'm such a useless mother when it comes to things like this.

Other than trying to wean we've not really been doing anything exciting. dd1 is back at school, after school activities have started again. I'm geraing up for halloween and trying to think about christmas eeek. Also I'm secretly trying to plan a holiday to Florida next year, not going to tell dd1 about that though, not until we're practically on the plane, lol I did reverse parking today on my driving lesson which was fun. Managed to stall the car when I was turning round at the bottom of my street though All in all it's been quite a boring week.

How was it being back at work Bozza and Kbaby? and how are you getting on Libb?
My maternity leave finishes on Sunday and I'm then on 6 weeks holiday. Only 6 more weeks until I go back to work I wish we could afford for me to stay off the extra 6 months but sadly we can't so I guess it's back to work for me soon too.

GeorginaA · 26/10/2004 22:43

Ds2 has just started pinching my neck (think he thinks he can hold on as if it was baggy clothing!!) and grabbing my glasses... SO annoying. When do they start understanding the word NO again?!

I'm going to have to backpedal on the novel writing this year... have got a work-from-home part-time job so that's going to be taking precedence beam.

OP posts:
Judd · 26/10/2004 22:50

Hiya Linnet, I'm also doing 3 meals now with DS. Breakfast is organic banana porridge and baby rice (just because the porridge is so high in sugar it makes me feel better to put rice in!). Lunch is a variety of veggies - at the moment its a cube of sweet potato, 2 of carrot and one of turnip and then a couple of fruit if he's still hungry. Tea is baby rice and fruit puree. Am not giving meat, fish or gluten until 6 months. I did buy some rice cakes and gave DS one to hold and make soggy whilst we were necking down cappuccino and cake in John Lewis at the weekend. That's all I've tried with him so far. Never used rusks for DD, just rice cakes and then moved swiftly on to Cheerios and sultanas as finger food...oh and fruit salad from a tin.
Libb, here is the info about teeth. Its a bit tricky to type without a diagram so I'll use this method (imagine you are looking at baby face to face).
TOP LEFT 54321 12345 TOP RIGHT
BTM LEFT 54321 12345 BTM RIGHT

Phew! Hope that makes sense. Obviously your DS will now get them in a completely different order just to keep you on your toes!

Judd · 26/10/2004 22:51

Crivvens! What is your work from home, part time job?

libb · 26/10/2004 22:54

Georgina, my glasses are a constant source of enertainment - my hair too, which annoys me cos DP has longer hair and DS isn't interested!

I am in love when he cups my face with both hands and grins like a loon - not so much when he realises that lips can be yanked and eyes tugged at! that Ow! noise must be fascinating to him.

I am loving being at work at the moment, ask me again in a few months though I really appreciate time with DS now, we have lots of cuddles and fun, his social life is brilliant for him as he meets other litluns and he is getting into a routine - he went down brilliantly tonight although he wanted another mega nap this afternoon. Fingers crossed it was a one off yesterday.

Wonder how Kbaby is doing . . .

libb · 26/10/2004 22:57

hope you like your new job! I like the idea of being at home but have realised that I need the discipline of a workplace - otherwise I would be here all day and gurning at DS!

GeorginaA · 26/10/2004 23:00

I wouldn't mind, but my glasses have been broken once already (okay, that was my fault not his, but I'm now a bit precious with them) and the neck pinching really HURTS!

Part time job thing is writing based - only a few hours a week, but will hopefully bring in much needed pocket money which will certainly help our household finances and is also good from a CV point of view.

OP posts:
GeorginaA · 26/10/2004 23:00

lol ... imagining you gurning now, libb

OP posts:
libb · 26/10/2004 23:04

did I mention Buffy? - I have been debating with Tom at work about the new mega box set . . . . such good value you know?

I have oriental lillies opening nearby and they are all I can smell right now - just as well I don't suffer!

GeorginaA · 26/10/2004 23:17

lol ... I already own all the seasons of Buffy and all seasons of Angel except the last one...

Not such a good deal for me

OP posts:
linnet · 26/10/2004 23:21

You know dd1 never liked rusks so I ate them all I used to eat my brothers rusks as well when he was a baby. Maybe I'll just buy some rusks for me to eat, lol

Judd is this Banana Porridge a packet that you make up with the baby milk? I think I looked at those but never used them with dd1 so swiftly walked past them and looked at the jars. I forgot about sweet potatoes I might get some tomorrow and try dd2 with them, she might find them tastier than normal potatoes. Must admit they aren't very tasty just mashed up on their own. You can't add butter to them can you? I know about no salt so I guess butter would be out as well. I can't believe already having done this once I'm having to ask advice. Shame on me. but then poor dd1 didn't get home made food when she was a baby as I just didn't have the time.

Oh and we still don't have any teeth yet either. dd1 had 2 teeth by now and was rolling over and back again. dd2 is such a totally different baby, it's true what they say you never get two the same.

SusiS · 27/10/2004 08:35

good morning everybody!!
had a quite good night actually. ds went down at 7; woke at 2 (quick pat) and 6 (went back to sleep ) and finally at 7! maybe we are getting there ?!?!

ds is a very good eater - solid wise
he also has 3 meals now
breakky: semalina or cereals (he's also get the banana one or the strawberry/apricot one) +fruitpuree (today melon and bits too)
lunch: 3cubes veggy/2cubes fruit (as pudding) if he is still hungry a joghurt + water
dinner: 2cubes veggie/2fruit/joghurt + water

we tried a few selfmade ones so far already: parsnip, sw.potato, but.squash, peas, zucchini, potato, chicken, broccoli, avocado - apple, pear, mango, peach, melon,

linnet: i don't know if it made any diff but that's why i started with veggies. no fruit for the first 2 weeks. - now he eats all of them.
for veggies like potato/parsnip therelike add b.milk/formula until it's smooth or even liquid.
maybe that helps?

utoh, more buffy/angel nutters
why do they show angel that late????????
always have to record it and watch the next morning

georgina: shame on your novel! but as soon as your homejob is finished we might give you a good kick to get on with it
and you are so right: extra money never hurts!

i wish i had a job i could do from home.
somehow i do miss work

just had a screaming-contest with ds! not sure though who won

GeorginaA · 27/10/2004 08:46

HE ROLLED!!!!

Just now. Back to front... he can already to front to back!

God I'm so proud. And to think I didn't think the milestones would mean as much with a second child...

OP posts:
SusiS · 27/10/2004 08:49

can i bring ds over though your lo can teach him how to roll back
