Libb don't feel guilty. Remember it is the second time for me and so I know all the staff and DD has been going 3 times a week to collect DS so it didn't seem as bad. I'm not so bothered about leaving her as about having time for them both when I'm not working with having the chores to fit in.

DD had a great day yesterday but could have done with sleeping a bit more because she was exhausted by bedtime. Linnet I give baby rice for breakfast, veg for lunch and fruit/baby rice for tea. Also give DD rice cakes (in fact started her on rice cakes before other solids - lazy second time mother ). At nursery she had these 3 meals plus 3 8oz bottles. Breastfed her at bedtime but she was very tired so didn't take a full feed and skipped one of her night feeds not waking until 4.30 am (great except I was so uncomfortable I couldn't sleep). But still I'm hopeful for the future!

I've looked at all the breakfast cereals and they are all too sugary for me I'm afraid. When DS was a baby I think Hipp used to do a sugar free muesli that I used but can't find it now. Have found some sugar free organic porridge in Boots and although it says from 4 months it contains gluten so I'm not sure whether to leave it a fortnight and then try it. After that I think she'll be on to ready brek.

cat82 · 27/10/2004 09:59

Well helllllloooooo

I have my house back! Dp's parents have left the building. They spoiled Kiera rotton, we have now have more soft, squeaky furry things than we know what to do with

I haven't read the billions of posts i missed properly, but i hope everyone is okay.

What a difference! kiera going to have a nap in her cot upstairs from 12.15 until 2.15, has been fantastic, and has made no difference to night time, hurrah!! She generaly goes down at lunchtime without a murmer, it's lovely.
She still can't roll, is everyone else rolling now? she doesn't even attempt to
She's nowhere near being able to sit, or pull herself into a sitting posistion either yet, but i'm not too concerened about that one yet. She does bounce now in her door bouncer though. It's wierd, one day she looked like she didn't have a clue what to do with it, and the next huuuuge bounces!

Anyway, i'll be back later, take care all.

xxxxxxx

Bozza - we used oats from 4 months, just the normal organic but whizzed in a blender. Oat gluten is different (and better) than wheat gluten. See this old thread for more ideas.

We start with pear today

cat82, so glad things are better - you "sound" so much happier. A break at lunchtime really does help doesn't it?

cat82 · 27/10/2004 10:12

Prufrock-I was getting worried for a whi;e there! My doctor, dp, several mumnetters, and myself were all murmering PND I was crying every day, and generaly feeling really, really crappy about everything in general. Which was made sooo much worse by the fact i didn't have any real, real problems, and i just felt weak and pathetic.
I do feel much more positive now, and i honestly think kiera having that big nap in the day, and her being happier is the difference. She just seems to be a baby that without enough sleep, is the grumpiest little monster on the planet! things are definatly improving

Oops! sorry, didn't realise ho much i had rambled there!

Prufrock, Libb, Egypt are we still on for a mini meet up? And everyone else, are we still doing the May thang? It would be so lovely to meet everyone in person!

xxxx

spots · 27/10/2004 10:24

Prufrock are you counting down the minutes till the wean o rama?

I have had a reasonable night - waking at 12 and 4 then up at 5.30 (but we draw a veli over that). This was after her first 'evening meal'. Well, you know I just don't see how solids can't influence sleep: if frequent wakes mean she's ready for solidds, surely providing these solids should diminish the wakes??? Anyway, something improved our pattern last night. Have just enjoyed pumpkin with baby rice: everything seems to go down better mixed with BR at themoment. She has a little golden moustache.

Georgina great about the work, how ideal. Are you accustomed to working from home?

Libb, glad it's going so well for you. Bozza too! what fabulous multi tasking superwomen you are.

spots · 27/10/2004 10:32

Cat sorry I really hadn't clocked that things were getting you down so much. In which case extra congrats on the BIG NAP. (and ) I'll reiterate that thing my mum's health visitor friend said: that 5 months is a very hard stage and lots of PND is diagnosed around then.

I am totally up for a meetup, to the extent that I am almost resigned to facing my hatred of flying if Prufrock's kind offer is the best for everyone else. (tho' if there was a non flying option I'd be happier! only the threat of a 7 hour journey forced me to fly to Nana's last month.)

Hey isn't it awful about John Peel? We were in mourning here last night. How can we bring up our daughter without his presence?

Bozza · 27/10/2004 10:59

Cat really pleased about the nap. Kiera sounds a bit like my DS was as a baby - once he stared having decent naps and sleeping well at night he was a totally different character (still is at 3.8 - we really know it if he's had a late night) and it made so much difference to me. Thanks prufrock for the link and info. Might start the Boots porridge at the weekend then.

GeorginaA · 27/10/2004 12:15

cat - really glad things are going better - that break really makes a huge difference, doesn't it? Ds1 didn't roll until 8 months (after he'd started crawling) - I don't think he could see the point until then, and he really didn't suffer for it! You should watch him hurl himself around a playground now!!!

spots: yes, when ds1 was small I did a load of freelance documentation work, plus last November having the deadline of a 50,000 words in a month - I'm used to sitting myself down in the evenings and just getting on with it!

OP posts:
SusiS · 27/10/2004 12:23

cat: good news that you are having a much better time now - naps really do make a difference! like bozza said, i can tell when ds didn't get his nap! - and i wish ds never started to roll over!!! if he just could roll back on his own...

georgina: what topics do you write about??

GeorginaA · 27/10/2004 12:42

Professionally or for fun?

The documentation I wrote was a step-by-step guide to an online database for sales staff and then some quick-glance cheat sheets. In my previous customer service roles when I was employed I wrote most of the department's documentation too.

The new job is writing for websites - will know more when I start

For leisure, I write a weblog (whatever comes to mind really - rants, reviews, observations, jokes), short stories, articles (never got anything published though) and hoping one day to write a romance novel!

The ironic thing is, I hated writing at school...

Cat, is DP wearing green shorts today? does he cycle to work? I think I spotted him this morning . . . had better back to work!

cat82 · 27/10/2004 12:55

Libb-Yes! he cycles and is wearing shorts (he is certifiable on both counts )

You'll have to pull him over and scare him by saying you know him next time

Bozza · 27/10/2004 13:08

Re the rolling. DD has rolled a grand total of five times over the last two months. She normally just protests when put on her front and hasn't done it back to front yet.

Judd · 27/10/2004 16:00

We haven't managed a roll yet. DD had it sussedf by 4 months. Glad to hear that crawling etc. can go ahead without The Roll ! Does seem to be a huge gap in the market for sugar free cereal from 4 months....reduced sugar rusks are also laughable ! Better be off, DD is doing that "cute" toddler thing of destroying valuable items to get my attention! Weather is crap so we are going to Tesco for the afternoon!

Judd · 27/10/2004 16:00

SO impatient.

Judd · 27/10/2004 16:07

Phew - 5 minutes more! (Big Cook Little Cook is on). Does anybody else sometimes have a complete panic about their lack of ability to be a mother? I do - it happens without fail on Sunday afternoons when I think of the week ahead, and its just happening today because DH is away overnight.
Cat - so glad you have the nap thing sorted. I'm only sorry I didn't realise that you weren't using the cot for daytime sleep or else I would have suggested nipping her up there sharpish! I hope you are using the time usefully - ie. your lunch, mumsnet, Begerac, Doctors and Neighbours.
I remember those days well.........

cat82 · 27/10/2004 16:10

Ahhhh Judd, Home and Away, Neighbours, Lunch. Chill out time. I did start running around the house trying to do housework, but decided that those two hours needed to be more "me" time.
Besides, stuff like the hoover etc wakes her up. That's my excuse and i'm sticking to it

Bozza · 27/10/2004 16:23

.... can feel my boobs starting to strain against my blouse...

will have to ensure DD has a full feed at bedtime.

linnet · 27/10/2004 22:24

She Rolled!!!! finally after weeks and weeks of rolling onto her side but never going any further, tonight at my grannys she rolled over onto her tummy. granny, dd1 and I scared her by clapping and cheering loudly, lol Of course she hasn't figured out how to get her arm out from under her so I had to fix that and after a few minutes she got fed up being on her tummy but it's a start dd1 had it sussed by 4 months so it's nice to finally see dd2 rolling over.

Took her to get weighed today. She's 16lbs 1oz. the Hv asked about her weaning and I explained about how she liked apple and pretty much nothing else. Hv seemed concerned until I explained we only started last week then she was fine. She said not to try her with ready brek or porridge until she was 6 months because of the gluten and not to give her rusks very often as they are just pure sugar basically, so I've decided to give them a miss. Also said to wait until she was around 6 months before introducing meat. Tonight I bought her a little jar of banana and peach. It's a Hipp organic one and she loved it. I was checking them all for sugar content and Hipp was the only brand that didn't have sugar in it. Also bought some sweet potatoes and mashed them up and she seemed to like them a bit better than normal potatoes. Didn't wolf them down but made a better attempt than usual.

So all in all it's been an eventful day. Oh and she had breakfast today which was, wait for it, apple with some babyrice which of course went down very well. I think she might be like my brother he seemed to live off apples when he was little.

SusiS · 28/10/2004 08:00

good morning everybody!!

isn't it lovely linnet when they roll over and seem to be so proud of themselves???
but wait till she does it over and over again and can't roll back yet

we had a brilliant night!
ds went down at 6.30, fed him at 8 (took only 4oz ) and I went to bed at 8.30
didn't hear anything from ds and woke at 4.30 wondering if he was allright! then at 5 he started whinging; i tried to hold myself back and not go in but he got more and more upset so i finally gave in. took much longer to settle him down again. and oh well, i went back to bed and little mister seemed to have had a talkshow!!!! talking, giggling, laughing ... for about 20min - finally drifted off and woke at 6! quick cuddle in my bed and we got up for breakfast!!!

spots · 28/10/2004 10:33

Well our night was TERRRIBLE! DD who has never ever refused a feed, kept waking and just didn't want milk at all. She just cried, inconsolable... until cuddled to sleep, and got woken up by being put back in the cot. Very distressing! Then after threequarters of an hour of this she deigned to take a feed, which helped her drift off for only an hour and a half or so. Gawd. No temperature. Is this TEETHING?

She seems fine this morning.

Bozza · 28/10/2004 12:41

Could be Spots. They always seem to be worse at night although DD also had chicken pox when her two came through so hard for us to tell. You sure you couldn't find anything else that might be the cause?

spots · 28/10/2004 12:55

She hadn't had a nap at all all day... so that sort of overtired sleep thing which I sometimes find disruptive myself... but the refusing feed thing was so out of character!

Daytime naps are now starting to be something I'm willing to stay at home for; wondering how to do it...

Sleep really is the big issue for us atm.
