Wouldn't we all be a nightmare on a rare ladies only night out?!

Mundane moment No. 256, some of the Muller Corners are well within date and Reuben won't let me look at his bottom gum, his tongue comes out every time . . . maybe returning to work will be good for me.

hi all..ds keeping me up again, but he's not crying, just a little whingey, making hmmmm and haaaa noises for an hour at 3am

Bozza, congratulations on DN and your dd on cutting her first tooth. Was she keeping you at night, because this was bothering her?

susi, MIL is a housework freak! She loves cooking too, so generally i get on with her in that sense, as she leaves me to get on with the kids, but her constant opinions drive me insane!

spots · 08/10/2004 08:17

DD only woke once last night!

Calming down on the weaning front: I didn't give her anything yesterday so her system obviously isn't desparate for bulk.

I feel magic!!!!

Bozza, what a catalogue of events. Great news about your new nephew tho'. Where did you go in Scotland?

The one problem about this whole Mumsnet lark is the lack of cream cakes online. Libb, you go off and enjoy those carnal pleasures - How lovely that your workmates want you back so much. We'll fight 'em for you!

damn damn damn ! DH is workin g from home and demands computer ALL DAY! and then we are going to MIL's for the weekend... if I didn't feel so wonderfully well rested I'd be quite put out. xxx

GeorginaA · 08/10/2004 08:32

God, what a terrible night we've just had

Ds2 woke at 2am and 6am (the latter didn't return to sleep, and has somehow got overtired even though I've put him down for his morning nap early) which wasn't too bad, but his three year old brother woke THREE TIMES in between that. At 6am I'm ashamed to say I lost the plot, stalked into ds1's room and yelled at him "IT'S THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT GO BACK TO SLEEP!" Feel like shit this morning I'm so tired.

Got my Baby Signs book through the post yesterday though and it looks really good. This is the sign language for babies thing. Probably won't start it until ds2 is 6 months or so, but I'm finding the theory really exciting!

Now what's the sign for tired again?!

SusiS · 08/10/2004 08:58

phewww, another bad night
ds went to bed really nicely (8pm) BUT woke again 12.30 (no clue why), 2.30 (on tummy), 4.30 (tummy again!)- normally i'd have fed him but i tried without; he was not uspet was just lying and talking; once he turned on his mobile and sang along ; turned it off again and got actually quiet; then once in a sudden: hungry!!! well all in all almost an hour up; after last drop he turned over and was asleep; but still restless and that kept me sort of awake and i was getting a headache anyways grmpf - 7 we got up in the end and i am dead

at least he had morning bottle at 8 again; so we are back to normal routine

yep libb: 1 week apart - and heads up! you'll do just fine!!! enjoy your "adult" company!!!

i wish i had someone in my "bump-time"

spots: pat on back well done magic girl
all day???? shurly he needs a loo break and something to eat???

ouch georgina: i feel with you! lack of sleep can make us do weird things!!!

haven't got a book on babysigning (yet) but i always use "all gone" when bottle is empty. it sort of helps ...

Sandi102 · 08/10/2004 09:03

spots, how old is you're dd? i thought weaning ds was causing him to wake at night, so i decided mot to give anything for tea, but he still woke? Not sure whether i should cut down on breakfast and lunch too. ds is 22 weeks.

SusiS · 08/10/2004 09:09

sandi - i had the same thought! cut out tea yesterday. but didn't make a difference at all! - so i keep giving him tea and will start brekky soon

GeorginaA · 08/10/2004 10:16

I'm such a bad mother... ds1 is in nursery and ds2 is plonked in front of Baby Einstein.

Don't think I got any longer block of sleep than about 45mins last night! thuds head on desk

Do you think it would be really terrible if lunch was mcdonalds for ds1?!

kbaby · 08/10/2004 10:29

Spots well done on the cot thing and for letting her cry a bit. I wish I could do it. Im just waiting for DD to get past that 6 month stage and then give it a go. I keep hoping the longer I put it off she may get better on her own(yeah right).
How long did she cry for?
Bozza, sorry you had to come back off hols early and seem to have had a tough time. Things can only get better.
Libb didnt you know its national cat poo week
Spots what a wonderful night you had. Do you think it was because of the settling herself thing you did yesterday?

We had another cr@p night. DD did actually go in her cot at 8pm and didnt wake. I tried 3 times to put her down and in the end gave up and called DP to do it. She went down first time. When I asked him how he does it he says its because he puts her on her side not her back. Am I being neurotic by putting her on her back if she can roll over?? Although I worry about him putting her on her side.
She still woke at 10,3+5 for a feed. Also woke from 4.30 onwards because she kept rolling on her tummy. If shes in a deep sleep she likes it but if shes awake instead of lying in her cot playing like she used to she now rolls over and then cries, I move her back and she rolls back again arghhhhhh. Why does she think that 5am is a good time to wake up and play.

Anyone know what age they learn to roll from tummy to back?

SusiS · 08/10/2004 11:52

kbaby: aaaargh same here! exactly what lucas did last night! woke up 2 times on his tummy, once without any reason (to me), once a feed and big play!!! must be the age silent prayer! - and he doesn't manage to roll back neither

but i too put ds on his side! he turns that way anyways. and sometimes it helps when you shhhhh shhh him in your arm, put him in cot (on side) and keep stroking his head and keep shhhhshing. and slowly retreat. ke keeps whimpering sometimes but goes off eventually.

and georgina: you are certainly not a bad mother!! you do worry - see? a bad mother wouldn't bother! - my ds ends up in front of tv sometimes - he just loves all those music videos! he couldn't get enough of robbie williams when he was on - and sure mcdonalds is fine. don't they have these fruitcups???

pfffffff, dp had a rough night. came home 10am instead 7 (works nights) and fell asleep on couch "only 40min ...zzzzz" - i had to go to the bank and put babymonitor right next to his ear!!!! on full volume!!! - guess what? - i came home half an hour later, ds was screaming the whole neighbourhood together and dp was fast asleep - bless! - luckily ds only on tummy, so turn over, dummy in and he went back to sleep phewww - but how can i ever leave dp alone with ds??????????????

GeorginaA · 08/10/2004 12:09

Yes, you're right ... they do have fruitcups... and just knowing I could have purchased them rather than the fishfingers and chips and fruitshoot makes me feel so much healthier

GeorginaA · 08/10/2004 12:11

Actually, I just love my hypocrisy... here I am, keen to make sure nothing but breastmilk enters my baby's stomach until 6 months, then attempt to have predominantly healthy homecooked food in his tummy until at least 1 year old...

... on the other hand, I'm filling my 3 year old up with junk!!

Ah, the dual nature of motherhood...

SusiS · 08/10/2004 12:25

well at least you are giving them a healthy start!!!! sooner or later they learn about junkfood anyways!!! (school, friends, ...)

GeorginaA · 08/10/2004 12:28

Yes, I'm fairly relaxed when they get over a year, I have to say. Ds1 has a pretty good balanced diet with the occasional junk (his favourite foods are still broccoli & peas, so I can't be doing that badly!). I think if he were a really fussy eater I'd be more concerned about giving him any rubbish...

I was just appreciating the irony

SusiS · 08/10/2004 13:31

lunch for ds went quite well; first time selfmade veggies (sweet pot., broccoli + chicken) mixed with a little bit of babyrice - first few spoons he was a bit well, not really keen on it but then it went down quite well!!! - so i guess i keep pureeing and mixing

Bozza · 08/10/2004 13:47

Well guys - things are looking up. My DN is absolutely gorgeous and I have another due in January. Have to admit I had a weepy moment in the corner of the hospital room at how perfect he is.

I don't know if DD is up in the night because of the chicken pox (although that is getting much better), the cold (think she is developing a cough) or the tooth (think the one at the other side is on its way). Its hard when you've got so many possibilities to eliminate!

Georgina - understand your irony with the food thing. I'm probably in a similar position. DS has eaten rubbish this week but circumstances haven't helped. But like your DS he is a peas and brocolli fan and today he actually had some cassoulet out of the freezer (from before everything went pear shaped) for lunch and ate the carrots!

Managed to get DD to take a bottle again today which is good because I'm back to work in two weeks and every semblence of a routine has gone to pot.

Hols were near Gatehouse of Fleet btw.

cat82 · 08/10/2004 16:25

Bozza- glad to see you back hon! glad everything's okay.

Georgina- Poor you and lack of sleep, i hated it. Dd ends up parked in front of the tv for 30 minutes during her increadibly grumpy time, when i can't do anything else with her. And when i have to eat something before i keel over. And when i have to put the dishwasher on. And....

Libb- I have around 33 mundane moments a day so there Enjoy your well within date mullers. Fancy a meeting sometime (perhaps, daringly an EVENING?!) i have not been out of the house for an evening on my own since Kiera (well, everyone else is sharing names) was born feel very in need of one.

Especialy since i really like my hair now! not hugly different, but tidier and generaly nicer, feel much healthier now cold is clearing, i have eaten fruit and have nice-ish hair £32.95 for a trim though??!!!! i couldn't believe it. This wasn't even in Cambridge, but a village outside where i live! (you got complimentary white wine spritzers though, so that was a bonus)

In the middle of packing for grandparents visit now. I wrote a list, Dp wrote a list and we are, get this, cross referencing tonight. What happened to my life??!!!

Kiera fell asleep on her own 3 times today! very pleased.

Hope everyone's okay

xxxx

Bozza · 08/10/2004 16:37

LOL at your lists cat. wrote a long list for our hols, ignored it and forgot loads of stuff.

SusiS · 08/10/2004 17:49

lol bozza: i do the same! writing lists and forget them!! (eg. shopping)
cat: what a nice name!!!!

spots · 08/10/2004 18:03

Nipping in quickly befor e heading up to MIL's... DH just off computer. exasperated emoticon (doesn't he UNDERSTAND my mumsnet requirements???)

We have just tried the Nuby bottle on your reccommendation Libb. Success!! I can't even start thinking about the implications of this.

Kbaby I don't think our good night had anything to do with her settling herself... don't know how it happened really. Just a slightly more pleasing bolt from the blue than the old 4-feeds one. She settled herself again for daytime nap, and must've cried for about 10-15 mins, so not long, and never sounding more than annoyed.

Right! off to golf country now. Have good weekends y'all. xxx

kbaby · 08/10/2004 18:25

Good God Bozza I thought you were telling us you were pregnant until I worked out what DN meant. Was thinking that you were a fast worker.

poor dd's got a cold, this morning there were snob trails all over her sheet.

libb · 08/10/2004 19:02

Spots, it was NUK bottles DS has taken to - the Nuby bottles are going out with the Avent ones! no wonder I am having to earn my keep . . . . really glad you had some success though

OP posts:
GeorginaA · 08/10/2004 19:12

kbaby - I thought that too! Then I realised that it probably wouldn't be physically possible unless she'd got pregnant the month before she gave birth
