Wouldn't we all be a nightmare on a rare ladies only night out?!

Susi, know what you mean re the clothes. Ive had to put loads of DD's away. I hope I have a girl next just to get more use out of them. Its a shame really as some of them are really nice and I know that I want to buy them again just in a bigger size.

Ok shes cried for 3 minutes and then stopped and ive checked on her and shes on her side looking sleepy.

SusiS · 05/10/2004 12:36

good girl kbaby pat on your shoulder

kbaby · 05/10/2004 12:46

oh well it didnt work. she started crying and i went up and patted her back etc but she still cried. now i feel horrible for making her cry and lying in her cot all that time for nothing,

have you all started weaning yet? I did from 4 months and from a previously sleeping thro the night baby, ds began to wake for 2 hours from 2 until 4am. My mum thinks his digestive system is getting used to solids, so she advised me to give something light like rusks or fruit for tea, rather than veg. I also put some fennel tea in his 10.30 feed and that seemed to help the last 2 nights. He only got up to babble and then went back to sleep himself.

Has anyone dropped the 10.30 feed? ds wakes up on the dot for that feed. I thought he may start sleeping thro that, but not yet.

Egypt · 05/10/2004 13:05

she enjoyed it though kbaby, and its good for them to learn to amuse themselves alone. poor dd spends most of her time on her playmat too . she's fine. has the odd shout, go and check on her, blow her a raspberry and she laughs and i leave again! she's fine really. she'd let you know if she wasn't. guess she cried when she is tired because she needs you to help her to go to sleep. just like my dd again. have to feed, walk, car, rock. nightmare.

still no passport. gulp. a ups van was following me on the way home. he turned the corner just b4 our house though. thought he may have gone the wrong way but he never came back.

i too feel bad for starting weaning. but she is so much more wakeful. hang in there libb. you are doing well to wait.

libb · 05/10/2004 13:42

Egypt, thanks but I am not so sure - the childminder phoned again to say he still hates formula (was a shot in the dark that he might change his mind in 24 hours - he he). Hope you get your passport!!!! I have all me bits crossed for you.

Sandi102, I was a klutz before DS came along - now I am just totally hopeless. If I had a tenner for every appointment/lunch with mate I made and then forgot about I wouldn't be stressing about feeds and work . . . . ever. My darling would be here with me and we would happy as Harry.

(would it be wrong to admit that I quite like the non baby moments?, I have cleaned and tidied big time today and it feels good . . . I am lording it in my living room and marvelling at the clear coffee table - Blimey, I am the archetypal ropey mum)

OP posts:
Egypt · 05/10/2004 14:22

you're not alone. it is nice to have non-baby moments. not just when they're asleep but when they are with someone else, out of the way. i dont feel like this when we go out and leave her. i just stress. but it's nice when she's out for a walk in the pram with my mum, because i know that she is definitely fine and more than likely asleep! it's nice not to have to worry that she'll wake up at any moment. is asleep in pram at mo

no passport yet.............

do the babies' passports last for 10 years too? cos she'll look pretty stupid going through customs at 10 with a baby photo?

may try some veggies for tea. have had babyrice for lunch and she wolfed it down. think i might start 2 meals a day. just worried that she'll cut her milk feeds and i dont want that. should i bf her and then give her just a little veg when she seems to be almost full? or feed veg then bf?

libb, did you get my caT?

sandi - some of us are weaning, some not. some waiting for 6 months. dd stopped waking around 10ish ages ago. she used to go through til at least midnight. only the past couple of weeks has she started waking at 10 on the dot, then 2, 5, 7or8

spoke to other mums today who have younger babes that sleep through. one mum, who's daughter is about 18 weeks says she puts her to bed at 7 and has to WAKE her at 6am for a feed! she's v small and worried that she doesnt feed enough at night. then she goes back to sleep. this morning she had to wake her at 8.30 just so she could go out!!!!!!!!!!!! she sais 'she would sleep 15 hours solid if i let her!!!!!!!!!!!!!' (i'd let her! )

Egypt · 05/10/2004 15:28

phew, passport's here. runs out in 5 years!

dd still asleep. with her eyes half open. looks totally freaky. dont like !

libb · 05/10/2004 15:31

lol, DS does that - spooky. Not as spooky as my thinking that he is sound asleep, randomly looking him and there he is staring at you like you've just grown horns. Brr!

YAY! have passport, will travel . . .

OP posts:
SusiS · 05/10/2004 17:16

sandi: think that is true with digestivs system. ds wakes everynight 1.30; can't find a reason; but is quite easy to be put back to sleep!
and no; hasn't dropped lateevening feed - well, is his bottle nr.4; so should really have it

and yes: ds spends quite some time "amusing himself" - i am never far away, and one ear always with him; but still - things need to be done! and he's got his "tree"

libb: nothing wrong about "enjoying non-baby times"! we need to recharge too!!

ds is not even anywhere near from sleeping through the night. but that makes him an individual!!!

been to town earlier with ds and we dropped into a travelagency! picked up a few brochures skiing - might go in a few months

it's just so cute seeing dp and ds play!!! they play more the "rough" games but ds loves it!!!!

pheww, thought ds would fall asleep on me at 5!!! have to keep him awake till at least 6 (another feed and bath)
at the moment he seems to be very occupied. working on something stinky - and laughing and cooing at "his tree" - arms and legs are just going mad

Sandi102 · 05/10/2004 17:19

egpyt, the 10, 2, 5, 7 is the same for me too! Why do you think this is? Should I try to settle him without the feed at 10?

i'm dreading going back to work in 4 weeks. i'm going to become even more forgetful. I spoke with my HV today, who puts it down to having to do so many things all of the time! And this is normal, so i shouldn't worry that i think i'm going mad.

spots · 05/10/2004 17:45

Sandi do you feed at 10, 2, 5 and 7 then? Egypt you do don't you? This is my big issue at the moment obviously!

Sandi my dh also has the job of administering the jolly japes. think it's a dad thing...they learn it at special dad schools that they go to when we're asleep. (other classes include: slightlytoolargespoonfulofbanana studies and specialist options in footstools)

Libb I like to think that dd also rather benefits from a little time away from ME! She has her favourite toy (a piece of greaseproof paper ) and they tell each other secrets. It's like mumsnet for babies.

Judd · 05/10/2004 17:46

hello, just popping in before bathtime (on my own tonight so everything has to go according to plan!!). Haven't read through the thread so don't know if this has been answered but according to AK, potato is OK to freeze but don't use a food processor to mush it up as it turns the starch into a sticky pulp - use a mouli or mash it (and presumably add a bit of bm or formula to get to right consistency).
Libb - if DS doesn't like the formula, could it be worth getting a few different brands in the ready made size to try him on? This is just my personal observation but Aptamil went down a treat with my two, whereas SMA definitely didn't! Aptamil is pricey but you may find you can buy it cheaply at the baby clinic (ours is £7 in Tesco and £5 at clinic ! )
Will check back in later to see what is going on but am needed to administer baby rice at the moment....
Egypt - I would give all milk first and then veg. GF recommends "tier feeding" (ie. milk then food then milk then food) at 5 months at lunchtime - but I don't know how that works with whipping DD on and off your boob! Perhaps Georgina or Prufrock can tell you (or somebody else, just picked them as they may have used GF first time round...)

libb · 05/10/2004 17:46

Sandi102, of course you're not going mad - you've found Mumsnet for a start!

It is official - DS hates formula, having sampled a swig I don't blame him - it is minging. What shall I do now? I have expressed approx. 7 ozs today and it looks like a tiny amount . . . at least the childminder will have something tasty for him to try tomorrow.

Have put his bouncer on maximum vibrate and his face is a picture!

got muddled between sandi and susi... did I hear 10%?

kbaby · 05/10/2004 17:50

were still feeding at 10 ish although i do wake dd for it if i dont she wakes at 2 then 5 whereas if i feed her at 10 she sleeps till 4.

in the gf book it says give milk first until 6 months as the milk is still the most important part of the meal. only after 6 months do you start to do half milk, solids, half milk. dont know if this is right though

libb · 05/10/2004 17:50

Thanks Judd, will get some tomorrow and give that a crack - SMA was truly awful. He didn't care much for Farleys either - maybe it is the way I make it?! I don't care how much it costs so long as he feeds. Seems so daft that I spent so long getting worked up about BF and now we both do it a bit too well, stupid stupid work! wouldn't be an issue otherwise.

libb · 05/10/2004 17:54

spots, I see your 10% brain loss and raise you 30 . . . . see Sandi/Susi/Spots/thingy, it is contagious!

(and feel free to ignore my silliness)

OP posts:
GeorginaA · 05/10/2004 17:57

Tbh I honestly can't remember what we did with ds1 while weaning . I know he was a major solids fan and the second he'd tasted "real" food, his milk got majorly neglected. By 8 months he gave up breastfeeding by himself, I was gutted .

I would imagine I just went by the one boob, then offer him lunch/dinner/whatever, then offer the other boob if he wanted it.

Judd · 05/10/2004 19:36

Sorry Libb, have banged on about Aptamil on your other thread too !
Yep, GF says milk is still most important at 4 months, then do milk/solids/milk/solids at 5 months and then drop the lunchtime milk feed at 6 months when you start giving protein (I find the word "introduce" really strange - "DS, this is chicken, chicken this is DS"). Milk inhibits absorption of iron from the protein so juice is better. GOOD LORD I am boring! Will go off and find a life........

Anonymousmarmiteflavouredsnack · 05/10/2004 19:38

Hello.o.o.o.o. in here

how's my favourite mummies then?

(am I the only one still not weaning .. and my DD is one of the oldest too)

GeorginaA · 05/10/2004 19:45

Oh much missed marmitey one!!!!

No, you're not the only one not weaning, although I'm in a bit of a dilemma at the moment because ds2 has started waking regularly in the night again after a lovely long time of sleeping through and it's killing me!

Keep reminding myself that I've just had a rather nasty allergic episode myself, I really do want to minimize any chances of him being allergic to anything.

Amfs · 05/10/2004 19:48

think I'd have given up and started by now if it hadn't been for the pregnancy-induced asthma

(have just shortened name for a mo ... still trying to think up new one)

Amfs · 05/10/2004 19:48

only 5 more weeks to wait (and I've just had organix baby rice delivered )

Judd · 05/10/2004 20:02

You got your Baby Organix delivered? Wow - I couldn't find it in Tesco or Sainsburys (even FORCED myself to go alone with a credit card to the Trafford Centre one evening ) to track it down but still no joy. Have used Heinz but still would have preferred baby Organix. Also have a question about BO and baby cereals but will have to post later as the microwave has just pinged !
