What do i do about this drawing from 7yo son?

NC for this

My son has only just turned 7.
I was tidying up earlier and noticed a picture he'd drawn in his book.

He is at his grandparents at the moment which gives me time to think about what to say or do.

I have no idea where he's got this from. But I'm also worried that he's drawn it infront of his 5yo sister as she's usually with him colouring at the table. Or worse, tried to do it.

What do i say to him? Is this type of behaviour normal at his age?

He isn't a rude child.. never did the show off boy part that i know a lot of boys that age do. He is aware of the PANTs talk, they did it at school last year and I've been over it a few times since.

We're careful with what he watches. He isn't allowed on youtube, but does like to watch Stampy Minecraft videos.
He's never walked in us either so I'm racking my brains trying to figure out where he's got it from.

I think you need to ask him and go from there. How alarming it is depends entirely on where he's got it from (i.e. if he's just heard the words with no context or explanation at school and made up a picture to go with it then just a chat might suffice).

Petalflowers · 08/02/2019 16:56

Must admit, that is slightly disturbing.

Where would he get the notion that anyone would kiss ‘the front bum’, unless he has seen you and dh ‘ being intimate’?

Or has he witnessed this behaviour by anyone else? On tv?

The worst case scenario is that someone has asked him to do it... but maybe i’m Over projecting.

The NSPCC has some great advice, or a number you can call to,get advice.

NSPCC advice line

Definitely concerning.

I don't think it's normal, no. If he said it, maybe, but to actually draw a picture is far too descriptive.

My guess would be that he heard or saw something from much older children or teens?

Are you sure it was your 7 year old?

Kitkatkittykins · 08/02/2019 17:01

That drew it?
100%, it is his book and his handwriting.

Ask him about it very carefully ..
Not even sure how.
But look online and see what advice you can get...

Bishalisha · 08/02/2019 17:03

Do any of his school friends have teenager siblings?

Kitkatkittykins · 08/02/2019 17:03

He's never seen us be intimate. Door always closed and under covers as an extra precaution!

McNeat · 08/02/2019 17:03

I'm impressed he used an interrobang

4point2fleet · 08/02/2019 17:03

I don't think I've ever known a just 7yo use '?!' as punctuation.

babysharkah · 08/02/2019 17:04

I'd be pretty concerned to be honest. Does he have uncensored internet access?

LovingLola · 08/02/2019 17:04

Would he have heard it from older children?
Or seen something on another child’s iPad or tablet ? There are posts on MN from parents who are devastated that their very young children have watched graphic hard core pornography on their own devices

BornInAThunderstorm · 08/02/2019 17:05

What neat handwriting he has for a 7 year old

Tbh (and I'm no expert, just my inclination as a mother) looking at that picture, it looks like an adult female and the phrase has a ?? after it. It makes me wonder if someone has told him about it (the concept) and he's drawn a picture of what he was told.

When I was at school kids told each other about body parts, sexual stuff, bodily functions... Often hugely inaccurately, but they did talk.

I wouldn't immediately think something sinister. It probably needs some gentle exploration - can you show his teacher? I've always found them to be really helpful.

Freeeeeburd · 08/02/2019 17:08

I would ask in a very lighthearted way so he doesn’t feel like he’s done anything wrong

FlagFish · 08/02/2019 17:09

I agree the ?! seems unusual for a 7yo and makes me think he has seen this somewhere (rather than heard someone say it). Probably online?

I would be worried OP. I'd say to him "DS, tell me about this picture. Did you see it somewhere?" and then leave lots of time for him to talk in response.

TheSunnySide · 08/02/2019 17:10

At people actually disbelieving this is the handwriting of a seven year old? Looks pretty much like it to me. I would be worried about what he may have seen (YouTube?) or heard (school) but it doesn’t necessarily mean he has done it imo.

Speak to him sensitively. When I speak to my son about things in this vein he gets awfully upset and embarrassed.

Kitkatkittykins · 08/02/2019 17:10

He does have very neat handwriting..

Aren't they supposed to be teaching cursive at school these days? And what on earth - a 7 year old using the interrobang correctly?! Wow.

Nomdejeur · 08/02/2019 17:11

He used a ?! Hmm

CherryPavlova · 08/02/2019 17:12

I’m afraid this is a very unusual use of picture and grammar by a seven year old. At seven, pictures usually sit on a baseline and tend to include extraneous objects in addition to people. The images are depicted ‘as known’ rather than ‘as seen’ – so there is no perspective or scale involved.
This is not a seven year olds work.

4point2fleet · 08/02/2019 17:13

The handwriting in the spelling book and on the picture is not the same child.

TheSunnySide · 08/02/2019 17:14

My son has been learning cursive writing since sept (year 3) and still rarely uses it out of school. If OP’s son is year 2 or 3 it isn’t at all strange that it is not cursive!

Nomdejeur · 08/02/2019 17:14

That doesn’t actually look like his handwriting though? Are you sure he wrote it?
