OMG...Assaulted Somebody Today

Hello All,

Haven't posted for what seems like forever so I hope you are all ok.

Went to Cadbury World today with MIL, DD (4) and DS (18mths). DS started to get crabby.

We waited in a cramped and very full area to see a film, but we missed the first show as there was so many people waiting. During the next wait, DS started screaming. He was obviously tired and he NEVER sleeps in the pushchair.

Our turn came for the show so we went into the small cinema. DS was very upset so we asked one of the staff to show us how to get out. MIL would take him out while I stayed in the show with DD. Staff said go into the cinema and wait for her to come over.

This didn't happen. 5 mins into the show a middle aged chap (on his own with wife) came over to MIL, asked her to leave as we were spoiling the show for everybody. Lady next to MIL said don't you dare leave.

Man goes back to his seat. MIL goes over to him and asks if he has kids. Quite politely I must add.

I go over to him and explain that we asked someone to show us the way out but nobody helped.

I then called him a very rude man, grabbed his glasses and threw them at him! We spotted a fire exit, left the cinema and came straight home.

I am now awaiting a knock on the door from Mr Plod.

What would my fellow MN's do in the same situation?

Has Mr Plod any way of tracking you down though?

Momp · 27/08/2004 17:24

All I can think is if CCTV followed us to car park.

This all happened at 11am today.

No knock at the door as yet.

Do you think it likely that the man would report it? It isn't exactly a punch in the face, is it?

Interested in this thread?

Some people canbe so rude and unhelpful! Very angry on your behalf. I'd have almost certainly got cross with him too.
Take some deep breaths.
On behalf of Cadbury (although wholely unconnected with Cadbury World) I'm sorry your visit to the shrine of chocolate was so marred.

Momp · 27/08/2004 17:27

I have no idea.

The cinema was full of families - they seemed like the only people in there without kids so I'm hoping he was highly embarassed for causing the incident in the first place.

Perhaps he thought better of reporting it. Who knows?

First off, I realise how stressful the situation must have been for you, i sympathise, I have been there myself. The man was, I am sure very insensitive. However I would be very upset if someone tore my glasses off and threw them at me as I am almost blind without them, couldn't drive, or even get to the car without them etc. So I could see that he might be pissed off. That said I hope that there are no visits and that the 'event' is finised.

Momp · 27/08/2004 17:28

Cadbury, so glad you are on my side.

Do you know, my poor little DD only got to see the first 2 exhibits.

She wanted to know why the news reporter on the radio coming home didn't mention it!

HMB - All I can say is that rage must have taken over.

I was protecting my kids. What would you do?

Did he physicaly threaten them? If not I would have told him he was an arse hole and left it at that,

No, he did not physically threaten them, but he offended me by complaining about my DS's behaviour.

personally momp, I think you were very restrained. I would have screamed and punched his lights out!

If he's not hurt and sensible enough to realise he was being rude (especially as your MIL was told to bring DS there), I can't imagine he'll take it any further as the police would surely tell him he's being unreasonable and give HIM the ticking off.

notthecod · 27/08/2004 17:34

thinkt he glasse was a lot over th top
you will b lucky if nothing come s of it
I have seen lesser things in court when I observed there

Momp · 27/08/2004 17:34

KS - MIL hasn't stopped laughing since. I'm still trying to find the funny side of it!

I am having difficulty seeing the incident in my mind so I definately had no idea what I was doing.

My DH said that it's a good job he was at work at the time as he would have done a lot worse

hmb · 27/08/2004 17:35

Would you realy 'punch someones lights ou' for a comment? Sorry if I sound prissy, but I think that is a bad thing.

Momp · 27/08/2004 17:37

I think it all depends on how much you are offended when somebody has a go about your kids.

Personally, it really PISSES ME OFF

OP posts:
hmb · 27/08/2004 17:40

Well, it really pisses me off as well, but I don't think that it is right to hit someone because they have annoyed you.

notthecod · 27/08/2004 17:40

I have no doubt that it was annoyin but I would really watch your temper in the future
i wouldnt like soemone to do that to me

vict17 · 27/08/2004 17:42

I'd be worried about the example getting physical would set to the children.

Fairyfly · 27/08/2004 17:42

I think you need to go to anger management, if everyone behaved like that when people were rude we would all be at each others throats. Learn to rise above it, sorry if i offend you don't mean to but you just walk away in my opinion.

i would be livid if someone spoke to me about my children like that but i would be more than livid if someone took off my glasses and threw them. but i wouldn't attack them physically.

Momp · 27/08/2004 17:44

Anger management? Perlease.....I value your opinions but I think I managed to control my temper quite well thank you very much.
