Would you leave her in hotel room while you were downstairs?

I know this is a very touchy (with very good reason) subject at the moment and dont want to start a big fight but just after honest opinions, would you leave a 12month old fast asleep in a hotel room, with a sensitive baby monitor on, while you were at a wedding party downstairs?
Its my sisters wedding in August at a very nice hotel, where most of the hotel will be taken by other guests (our friends and family) and my parents think it will be fine but I'm a bit worried in light of everything that has happened recently
Thanks for your opinions
Lynn

sorry but no, we had the option to do the same but thought a rowdy wedding reception or upstairs from was not a good place for our 14m old DD. Lots of people smoking, drinking etc, i would either leave her with in laws if posss or leave early. This has no reflection on current news because i think its a different set of issues. WE went to the reception but left early as we didint want to expose DD to smokey atmosphere or completely bugger her routine. This was at BIL wedding. I personally hate weddings and that sort of thing though so that may have influenced decision.

PregnantGrrrl · 31/05/2007 18:38

i would if it was a small family hotel, i had a monitor with me, and i knew that my child was fairly likely to sleep through. Otherwise, he stays where i can see and hear him.

LaBoheme · 31/05/2007 18:52

No way - I could never relax and enjoy the party. I personally would give the party a miss and go to bed with DD.

Gosh I am rather dull now I am a Mum.

i have used baby listening services at many well known luxury family hotels in the past.

always use my own monitor too.

the mcann tragedy has made me reasses this, but the size/ geography of the building are key. you have to assess the risk based on that, imo. if the hotel dining room is close to your room and the monitor is right next to you, i might consider it.

MerlinsBeard · 31/05/2007 19:13

I haven;t read the thread as it could go either way and i';m not interested in that.

No i wouldn't at any age. If they were so tired that they needed to sleep i would take the trolley and lay them down in that or i would leave early.

americantrish · 31/05/2007 19:21

i wouldn't. regardless of the current news, i wouldn't have before and i wouldn't now. it's just a risk i wouldn't take.

StinkyPete · 31/05/2007 19:24

no, I never would have even before recent events. mine would have easily slept in a pram in the room with me.

Rhubarb · 31/05/2007 19:24

I have left dd in a locked hotel room, asleep, with the baby alarm on and us checking on her every half an hour.

I would do it again too.

Rhubarb · 31/05/2007 19:25

We tried the pram thing with dd first but she screamed the restaurant down, she was too tired and the lights were too bright. So the second night she was put to bed.

It's a calculated risk, but we make them every day.

I wouldn't

a friend was at a party a couple of years ago when a couple did exactly this. The baby died of cot death

when they are older i would

redtoenails · 31/05/2007 19:33

no

Rhubarb · 31/05/2007 19:34

There are smoke detectors in hotel rooms, no doubt you'd hear that in your baby alarm.

No worse than leaving them on the top floor of a 3 storey house for fire risks. Hotels are safer than houses for fires. As well as smoke detectors they also have sprinkler systems etc.

Rhubarb · 31/05/2007 19:35

And cot death can happen even if the baby is in the same room as you.

That's not a fair comparison Enid. The baby didn't die because the parents left it unattended.

I'm sure they'd let you get the baby.

Anyway, whatever I'm only answering the question. I'm not on trial am I?

I would so nerr!

Enid · 31/05/2007 19:40

I have a fear of my children being eaten by giant ladybirds from Mars. I don't think that is irrational though. We do take sensible precautions against it, such as never wearing clothes with flowers on them or scented things etc.

Enid · 31/05/2007 19:43
