My husband drew on my baby!

I need some perspective from someone who isn’t me- I’ve just gone to change my 5 week old daughter and my husband has drawn in black sharpie marker pen on her stomach (he has drawn a big sun around her belly button). I am incredibly upset with him. I can’t believe he would draw on our child honestly I’m dumbfounded. It looks hideous. And how am I now supposed to take her to clinic to get weighed? It looks terrible. When I have challenged him (woke him up- it’s 3am and I was changing her before her feed) he just said ‘why is there a pen there’ and ‘I was just a bit drunk don’t overreact’.
I didn’t know he was drunk or I wouldn’t have let him anywhere near our child for a start, but seriously, am I overreacting? I think it’s the most irresponsible thing I’ve ever seen I actually feel sick.

I'd be absolutely furious. According to google, coconut oil removes it. Sorry if somebody else has already said this, I'm running late and haven't RTFT.

gamerwidow · 02/10/2017 07:37

Larygrylls of course I know the meaning of the word vindictive. It is vengeful behaviour suggesting that he resents the baby and wanted to be cruel to it. At best he is disregarding of his child.

Longdistance · 02/10/2017 07:38

Your dp is s prize dick!

Get that Sharpie and write CUNT on his forehead before he goes to work, and write it nice and thick...like he is...

What a Knobster.

thatcoldfeeling · 02/10/2017 07:38

This is grim, he sees her body as something that he can use for drunken amusement? That is what he has done, right? Complete lack of care or regard for her.

wingerkite · 02/10/2017 07:40

This thread is hysterical! God only knows how some of you make it through a single day.

Do you not think it's QUITE weird for an adult to do this? Would you be so blasé about it if they did it to you?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 02/10/2017 07:41

I think it's stupid and immature.

But vindictive and abusive, no.

gamerwidow · 02/10/2017 07:46

I think people forget just how tiny and helpless a baby is at 5 weeks. I saw a tiny newborn last week and I was surprised anew at how fragile they are. I just can't imagine the thought process that led to this.

guilty100 · 02/10/2017 07:47

Seriously, to those saying the OP is overreacting - can you imagine taking a baby with a line drawn across her stomach to be weighed? How do you explain that? "Oh, my husband was drunk and mistook our newborn for an etch-a-sketch". It's humiliating.

So clearly the only answer is for him to take a day of leave in order to take the baby to the weighing, and any other healthcare, appointments. Grin

Ultratired · 02/10/2017 07:56

This thread has upset me pregnant hormones.

Your partner has no empathy or respect. That is a disgusting thing to do and borderline abusive. What else does he do?

I would take her to the weighing clinic and bring your dh with you. Tell the HV what he did, hopefully this will be a wake up call and he'll grow up but I personally would LTB if there is a pattern of disgusting drunk behaviour. Jesus wept.

Ultratired · 02/10/2017 07:57

How would people feel about a drunken boatyard painting a new born puppy or kitten?

It's abusive and frankly absurd and disturbed. Yuck.

Ultratired · 02/10/2017 07:58

*drunken bastard

ninnynono · 02/10/2017 08:04

I'd be pissed off too. Totally stupid. Hopefully he's feeling very sorry this morning.

On a practical note, my dd (3 yo I might add) squirted eosine on my 7 week old's face. Argh! Breastmilk removed it! So try that.

Miserylovescompany2 · 02/10/2017 08:05

Oh, look, there's a sharpie pen - lets draw on the 5wk old baby?

What a complete tool! Then add into the mix of his excuse of being drunk. It beggars belief really.

Hairspray removes sharpie pen from skin - I wouldn't use it on a baby though. Baby oil before bath and it should eventually go.

I hope there isn't a reaction to the pen either?

DressedCrab · 02/10/2017 08:05

He's a prick to get that drunk around a baby.

Mustang27 · 02/10/2017 08:18

It’s not funny. Who does that. The markers are full of chemicals too.

Id have drawn all over him see how he reacted.

I don’t know how you deal with your man child here sorry. Just came on to say I’m sorry you are dealing with such stupidity.

ScrambledSmegs · 02/10/2017 08:24

I managed to mostly remove black Sharpie from toddler DD's face once after she'd gone a bit modern art on it (I had no idea she could climb so high, in my defence).

I used baby oil on clean skin. It came off pretty well, left a slight mark that I could see but to other people she merely looked slightly grubby for a few days till the remainder went.

missarcher · 02/10/2017 08:28

What the hell was he doing getting drunk while in charge of the baby anyway? That's far more concerning

Mrskeats · 02/10/2017 08:32

This is such a weird thing to do. Could he have taken drugs maybe?
And why is a drunk person looking after a baby? I agree that's the real issue

Nancy91 · 02/10/2017 08:32

It's not really a problem unless your baby folds in half and tries to lick the sharpie off her stomach and somehow ingests it.

I'd tell him he's weird for doing that but I'd find it a bit funny.

Mrskeats · 02/10/2017 08:35

Funny? Jesus. Not sure the person at the clinic weighing the baby is going to agree.

Polly99 · 02/10/2017 08:36

Yeah, I'd be cross about this. It's careless, and I felt so protective of my babies at 5 weeks I still wanted to bite strangers who got too close etc.
But in terms of actual harm, it won't have done any and the baby will be fine.

Graceflorrick · 02/10/2017 08:40

Wow! Confused

DartmoorDoughnut · 02/10/2017 08:41

What a prick!

RedBlackberries · 02/10/2017 08:46

Oh come on! It's a bit funny.

Draw a spunking cock on his face whilst he's asleep as revenge!
