I'm in Scotland. I'm doing HNC clinical practice course. It's aligned with 1st year uni.

I'm hoping to do adult nursing at UWS.

On Amazon get nursing calculations book. It's fab. Also get leaflets on the code. Look at a book called the diving bell and the butterfly. Look as well at another book called the unpopular patient.

Use terms like person centred care, dignity etc.

Jeepers the samaritans or something like home start would be good.

JeepersMcoy · 28/10/2015 16:22

Thanks! lougle I used to volunteer for the Samaritans when I was at uni. Now you mention it the timings would work really well and I really enjoyed doing it. I will get in touch with my local branch. Yay!

I always love a good excuse to buy new books Drews :)

I never knew this thread existed! I've applied to do child nursing starting September 2016 so hopefully this thread will have some good advice Grin

Do we have a whole new shiny thread for us? We need a new thread

JeepersMcoy · 29/10/2015 09:06

I just realised I put in my first post I was applying for Jan 2016 when obviously I am far too late for that and will be applying for 2017. I'm too excited to even remember what year it is :)

TiffanyAchingsFeegle · 29/10/2015 19:09

I'm applying for 2016 jeepers it's not too late, it's happening right now.

JeepersMcoy · 29/10/2015 20:11

Sadly I can't afford to do it until my dd is in school next year as we couldn't manage to pay for the childcare on dh's wage while I was studying. It should be just about manageable when she is in school if we are very careful and I can get some savings in the bank over the next year.

I'm the higher earner at the moment so it will mean a drop in the family income even when I get through the training and get a job! Confused

I hope your application is going well! Will you be starting in January? I am terribly jealous.Smile

There's a helpful post on this topic: HOW TO PRESENT YOURSELF IF YOU LACK WORKING EXPERIENCE IN THE FIELD and Mental Health Nursing Personal Statement. Hope this helps. And the best of luck!
