Where are you applying chuck?

Where did the second email go to lump x

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 12/12/2014 11:12

Tina replied, said my maths was excellent and my essay was ok (a pass) and that whilst I was a good candidate in the interviews, others showed more insight.

This is fine, but Ive researched for months Ive got a stack of revision still sitting in my kitchen - Im not lacking in insight, quite the opposite.

But I was extremely nervous that day.

So, Tina said that the (very lovely, thankfully) woman that was running it that say 'advised me to apply next year.'

So I emailed that person and explained the nerves and begged for her to let me prove that I do have insight.

Ive no doubt my efforts are futile and it will of course be the last email I send but I figured if I send a begging email it needs to go to the correct person and Tina indirectly told me exactly who that was. So email her I didn't.

I even sent her a pic of my stacks of notes and practice essays. This is desperation at its best.

You know what if I didnt think I had the qualities and insight then I wouldn't be begging.

But Ive researched this for months on a huge scale and I know I will be good at it.

Its a shame that all the tonnes of info I did retain, didnt come out during the interview. I let myself down there and I feel like I need to show them what I wasnt able to in the interview.

Hello fellow applicants!

I am a long-time poster/lurker but it's been so long since I last posted I had to re reg!

I've just completed access with a view to reapplying for Midwifery. I'm applying to Southampton, Surrey and Bournemouth. I have a test day at Bournemouth, interview at Surrey, but am still waiting to hear from Southampton.

Last year I didn't make it to interview at Southampton but when I requested feedback I was offered a nursing interview and subsequently a general nursing place. I'm sure we've all considered what our back-up plan is and nursing is definitely mine, but I turned it down because I was short listed at Surrey following my interview there for midwifery, and I felt I needed to give it another try having secured 60 credits at distinction and also maternity voluntary experience.

I found it to be an utterly draining and disheartening process last year, so I have decided that as much as I want to be a midwife this will be my last application. I'm hoping to use my extra places in UCAS to apply for nursing. Really because I'm not getting any younger, and family life has been paused so that I can pursue this and it's unfair to do that indefinitely. Lumpen I truly sympathise! Some of the interviews don't actually offer you the chance to show insight then reject you for not showing it!

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 12/12/2014 12:44

Good luck with your unis Jelly. I told myself that I would try for 3 years in a row but next yea will definitely be my last, I can't put myself through it all again. I didnt realise how painful it would all be.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks Lumpen, good luck to you! and everyone else on the thread.

Before reapplying I did 'forget' how bad it was, but it's all really clear again now as I frantically check my emails!

ChuckNovice · 15/12/2014 17:28

Have applied for Hertfordshire, City London and Middlesex.

Any more news Lumpen ?

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 15/12/2014 18:28

Only that Ive got no hope and need to apply next year.

I need to do a module though because my degree will be too old by then, but I don't have £2632 to pay for it.

ChuckNovice · 15/12/2014 19:02

Could you not ask them to make allowances for that and maybe just try and do some volunteering instead?

MikeTheShite · 15/12/2014 19:35

Sorry I've been a bit missing in action.
Oh lump that's rubbish, could you so the access with a 24+ learning loan?

What about clearing?

Can I ask what kind of questions you were asked please x

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 16/12/2014 09:42

That's what Im looking into now, theres a course starting in September which is just down the road from me. Ive just booked the information day which begins the application process.

Mike Im afraid I can't help you with the questions. And I think they have tailored it so thats exactly what happens.

The reason is this - you sit in front of the interviewers for 5 minutes each. Think speed dating! In front of them is 5 laminated cards turned over so you can't see them. You pick one at random and talk about it.

First off, the chances of you picking the same one as me is low, but also a few of mine were definitely tailored to child nursing and wouldn't be relevant for you.

Not to mention the fact that I didnt get in, so it'd be wrong for me to advise you - even if I could.

I spoke to someone who had their adult interview last week and she found out there and then that she failed to get in.

She didnt seem well prepared at all though, so you will definitely have better luck.

When is it again?

MikeTheShite · 16/12/2014 09:53

I'm not so sure. 15th of jan.

I did access last year, I did really enjoy it. Are you looking at access to health or access to nursing Smile

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 16/12/2014 09:58

Its called "Access to Nursing and Midwifery."

Im so pleased, I feel like Ive reached a brick wall everywhere Ive turned. Im still expecting to, tbh!

MikeTheShite · 16/12/2014 10:00

That's fantastic lump- you can so do this!

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 16/12/2014 10:14

Thank you! I just called the the loans people to double check I could get it, and they said yes.

So basically all I need to do now is get onto the course. If I don't get onto that, I'll just do GSCES biology or something so Ive got 'recent education' under my belt.

I will do this!

I look forward to hearing that you got on to the degree Mike!

Chuck what's going on your end? Have you heard back?

OP posts:
ChuckNovice · 16/12/2014 11:59

Hey Lumpen. Good to hear you've not been put off. I was going to do a Human biology self study GCSE this year if I was unsuccessful. I found out yesterday I got a place a Herts. I am very surprised! Got a test at City later on today.

MikeTheShite · 16/12/2014 12:14

Congratulations Chuck.
Good luck for later x

jelly
How long after your surrey ucas did you get a interview I'm still waiting with no news Confused

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 16/12/2014 13:13

Mike Ive just had some feedback which you might find helpful, I have.

They said I scored below the minimum to get in (all interviewers marked you) and whilst some marks were really good, others were low because I failed to relate the answers to nursing. Which is totally true, there was 2 I was really confident in, two I really struggled with (and definitely didnt relate them to nursing enough) and one which was okish.

Im really pleased with that, I felt a little lost as to what I should improve on.

I hope that helps you, I want you to get in! X

MikeTheShite · 16/12/2014 14:09

Oh I'm glad you got feedback but still gutted you didn't get in!!

JellyDots · 16/12/2014 18:47

Mike from my college submitting my UCAS to Suurey contacting me for additional info was about two weeks, then just over a week later I was sent an interview date. My interview is late Jan.

Still no news from Southampton.

MikeTheShite · 16/12/2014 18:55

Thanks jelly.
No need from Southampton here either Hmm

ChuckNovice · 16/12/2014 22:09

Thank you.

Lumpen, glad you got some feedback to work on. By the sounds of it Brighton is a really tough uni to get into - you sounded so well prepared, I'm sure you'll get in next year (although I know that seems rubbish now). Such a shame you don't have more unis close by for more options.

JellyDots · 17/12/2014 13:48

Lumpen I absolutely loved doing access, and I really think it helped me to prepare for interviews because the tutors were able to pass on bits from previous students. The course I did was also really well tied in to current nursing and midwifery hot topics. I hope you get in!!

Mike thinking back, my decline from Southampton didn't come until January last year, so I think they do take a bit longer. Although I do know that some interviews were sent out last week. I actually got my decline email on the same day as my test at Bournemouth, which I failed! That was not a pleasant day in the Jelly house! This year I'm trying some different maths revision tactics.
