Just a bit hacked off with mums at school, they moan about having no life away from their kids/ not much money, yet they all seem to refuse to get jobs or careers!
why do some women just want to do sweet FA all day when their kids are at school? They seem content for their husbands to slog their guts out at work while they drink cups of tea and watch daytime tv! Dont get it! i think its called laziness??

uh - oh

hunkermunker · 20/09/2006 16:33

It can be hard to get jobs that fit in with school hours, to put the other side of it.

Or they could just be lazy.

However, my prediction is that this thread will kick off in precisely 16 minutes.

Kaz33 · 20/09/2006 16:34

Sounds great, only a year to go

Unfortunately, no doubt my boring protestant work ethic will force me to do something to contribute to the family finances..

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 20/09/2006 16:35

Hard hat time.

Moomin · 20/09/2006 16:35

A la Wong Has this thing kicked off yet?

sorrell · 20/09/2006 16:36

Maybe because there are so few jobs that start at 9.30 and finish at 3.00pm and are less than half an hour from the school gates...oh, and give you a min of ten weeks holiday?

hulababy · 20/09/2006 16:37

I agree if they are fed up about it and their situation, then it is up to them to go out and find something to do then - whether that is a part time job, voluntary work, a hobby, the gym or whatever.

However, since DD started school this month I have definitely seen that it is way harder to work and arrange childcare around school hours, when compared to being able to use a fday nursery.

I doubt very much they all do nothing all day either - think that is very mean to say.

On my days off I do housework, I sort the shopping, I organise household stuff (holidays, days out, visits, etc) but I do also spend some of my time meeting friends for lunch, retail therapy, sitting at home scrapbooking for fun, watching a bit of TV and drinking tea. I imagine SATM do a bit of all that too.

It may also not be financially viable for them to work. Many part time jobs pay peanuts. And term time only, part time jobs can be very hard to come by.

I thinkk you are being VERY judgemental (based on your OP anyway).

I agther you work? Maybe FT? Not envious at all maybe?

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 20/09/2006 16:37

16 minutes hunker.....nah it'll be quicker than that.

Actually I only work 11 hours a week and my kids are in secondary. I don't moan at all and I'm not lazy either. Just lucky enough to be able to choose.

ComeOVeneer · 20/09/2006 16:38

16 minutes Hunker (that is a rather generous estimate).

lucy5 · 20/09/2006 16:38

Because I don't have to, love!

CountessDracula · 20/09/2006 16:39

trip trap

sleepinbeauty · 20/09/2006 16:39

why would i be of someone i dont want to be like? i love having a career, it fulfills me and helps end meet, i cant imagine not working, it doesnt seem fair on my dh for a start.. he works 6 days a week already...
Oh, and our children are loved and happy too. I cared for them for 5yrs but whats there to do when they're at school ffs?

I think that's me sleepinbeauty is referring to

send ds2 off to school a couple of weeks ago

Today I had coffee with friends, the went to the health club with dh in his lunch-hour and sat in the jaccuzzi and steam room.

It was lovely - heartily recommend it to the rest of you

in the tune of billy pipers song..

why am i gunna sit on my fat arse..
because i want too becasue i want too..

cheeseandonion · 20/09/2006 16:41

I sit on my arse all day long whilst my daughter is at school

  • i can't go back to work as i have to take her to several hospital appoinments a month
  • i also don't have the luxury of being able to return to my career in a part time position

-i ca'nt get a part time job as i have no child care and what the point of working to cover the child care fees comming home knackered for nothing.

So i think i'll sit on arse a little longer.

Moomin · 20/09/2006 16:42

so if you're happy, why don't you mind your own beeswax?!

iota · 20/09/2006 16:42

cheeseandonion - do you fancy a coffee?
