Just a bit hacked off with mums at school, they moan about having no life away from their kids/ not much money, yet they all seem to refuse to get jobs or careers!
why do some women just want to do sweet FA all day when their kids are at school? They seem content for their husbands to slog their guts out at work while they drink cups of tea and watch daytime tv! Dont get it! i think its called laziness??

And I agree with Hula, actually the older your children get the more difficult it is. When they are little they are happy to go to a childminder or nursery after school. When they get a bit older they start to kick against that and want to be at home or doing after school activities and it gets really difficult. If you have no family and therefore no-one to have them when they're poorly what then? It's not so black and white I'm afraid.

I am very pleased that you have a job you like and that can fit around looking after your children out of school hours and during the 13 week school holidays. Congratulations!

I am actually VERY lucky. I work 17.5 hours a week for a pretty good salary. My hours fits around school hours, bar one day where she either goes to a friend's for tea or does after school club, and I get a massive 12 week's holiday. However I know how rare it is to find this jobs. hence me staying there despite it being a good hour or more journey each day. Oh, and my DH earns an excellent salary doing a job he loves, working 8-6, 5 days a week - and he'd still do it even if lottery winners as he enjoys it so much!

cheeseandonion · 20/09/2006 16:42

also i enjoy doing lunch and spending dh's money to bother - why bother getting a job when i have a dh who's willing to feed my habit

StrawberryMoon · 20/09/2006 16:43

"why would i be of someone i dont want to be like? i love having a career, it fulfills me and helps end meet, i cant imagine not working, it doesnt seem fair on my dh for a start.. he works 6 days a week already...
Oh, and our children are loved and happy too. I cared for them for 5yrs but whats there to do when they're at school ffs? "

so you stayed off until they were in full time ed????

why didnt you get a parttime job when they ent to nursery..how lazy!!!!

and if your jobs 'that' fullfilling what are you doing pretending you not jelous on here whilst you are meant to be doing something enjoyable and fullfilling at work??

Some of us have special needs children and are moved to use our spare time helping them, being school governors, magistrates or working with the local church. We dont all moan either. Im happy with my lot. My kids need me, especially my special need one.

I often listen to working Mums moan but I just accept that from time to time everyone needs to let off steam. I think it`s a shame to have such a thread on a perenting web site when really we are all here to support each other. I know I value Mumsnet for that and from my friends (working or otherwise) in real life.

SpaceCadet · 20/09/2006 16:43

oh dear..parpity parp parp

charliecat · 20/09/2006 16:43

I send the kids to school have a little tidy up, sit on MN, go shopping, sit on Mn a little longer then go pick them up again....would I prefer to be rushing to get to work and back again in time to pick them up... no.

hulababy · 20/09/2006 16:43

Oh and BTW - anyone fancy lunch any Monday or Friday - I am free and VERY willing to do lunch and sit around chatting and drinking tea. Just shout!

Quadrophenia · 20/09/2006 16:44

oh I thought my ears were burning you are talking about me!! Can't be bothered with justifying this with an arguement because whilst you 'have a career' I am a much nicer person and probably loads more intelligent.

auntymandy · 20/09/2006 16:44

plus it leaves jobs for those that want them.
Maybe they want to be able to take their children to and from school. not many jobs give school holidays off etc, if you arent qualified to do a really well paid job it isnt always viable to work

sleepinbeauty · 20/09/2006 16:45

No, not , i love my job to bits !
My original point was: why complain about having no money or having no life of your own when youre not willing to change it? i am not jealous as i dont HAVE to work, i CHOOSE to! we could manage on my dh's salary fine.

hulababy · 20/09/2006 16:46

They may want to but not be able to find one of the few part time, term time only jobs that pay enough to justify any child care costs that may be incurred from after school clubs.

Also, they may have just had a bad day and want a whinge with their mates. Who cares?!

Why do you care?

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 20/09/2006 16:46

Hula - if you weren't so far away I'd be there like a shot. I work term-time only too and there's no way I'm giving it up.

iota · 20/09/2006 16:46

Hello Mascara, didn't see you there - we must 'do lunch'
