  3. there is NO going bakc
do not start if oyu are going ot poof out
  1. remmeber it is hard work - hence hte training - yes life will be more difficult for a couple of weeks
  2. do NOT use pull ups for day time naps or anythin short of a 2 hour journey
  3. night training is a wholey seperate issue

well done those succeeding. I thought I was , as she asks to go wee and weve only had 1 wet accident in the last week, but today Im stumped dd has been put on loo on and off all day , as I knew this morning she wanted to do a poo, weve said she'll get a treat if she does a poo on the loo , but she just freaks if she does.
So no poo all day , and then boom right in her jeans whilst playing in the garden 10 mins ago, she was soooo freaked and upset, I was upset with her , as dh and I have taken her so many times to the loo today (and shes sat for a while , so I knew she needed to go) and asked also and she still wont go poo in the loo. She hates the mess , but wont click that we wont have the mess if she goes in the loo. arrghhhhh what to do ???

Melsy, I know how you feel. Ds2 has been dry now for almost three weeks but pooing was a big issue for him. He ended up holding his for four days until yesterday. At mother-in-laws yesterday and he came to me asking what was on his hands. To my horror it was poo. MIL sorted ds2 out and I went upstairs to see where he'd pooed. He'd done the tiniest bit and picked it up before putting it on the centre of a target much to ds1's horror and my grin! So tried him on toilet for rest of it and he refused more than a couple of seconds of contact with the seat. Then I was ignoring him and playing cards on the laptop. MIL was watching Corrie. He just walked in, plonked himself down on potty, thrutched for all he was worth and bang the biggest stogey I've ever seen from a child. Now I don't think for one minute that he'll always make it to the potty but it's a start. I think MIL's neighbours thought England had won the world cup or something with all the whooping and cheering going on. Just keep going! I think we're graduates of the Easter Intake! Where do I get my certificate?

cod can you impart your wisdom this way please?

ds is 3 years and 4 months. Have tried many times before and he has weed all over the place. This time I have not used nappies for 4 days. He wees in pants twice a day but he can easily hold a wee for more than 6 hours. I have stopped asking him, am now telling him. Have cut down the amount of telling him so he gets to realise being wet is not nice. Have a star chart in toilet which he likes but he gets VERY stressed and cries when I put him on toilet despite the lure of choc rewards or stars. He is stubborn as hell and rewards/incentives are losing their impact. Am now asking him has he got dry pants and giving hima star for that.

Any advice would be most welcome - he is the hardest child I have ever potty trained - my others were so easy. Thanks.

cod · 22/04/2006 14:55

i just odnt get that poeple start then give up
i htink this is the root fo the problem
the kid knows you will give up

alittlebitshy · 22/04/2006 16:48

wees 100% sorted.

poos not sorted. in the almost 2 weeks since ditching daytime nappies, we haven't had many poos, but only 2 have been on oloo, rest in knickers. she'll get it won't she?

just had a horrid one. knickers were on wrong way round (not sure if was dh or if they came off when she took tights off and she replaced hereself) so poo fell out the leg, which was actually the waist band eurgh!

looneytune · 22/04/2006 17:46

Cod, what's mad???

Padded seat may have germs but gets cleaned very regularly and when he's on that, it's just his bum sitting on it - his willy dangles in doesn't it! My concern about the germs was the fact then when he tries standing up, the tip of his willy actually touches the edge of the loo. Does that make sense? Blush (does to me! Wink) Maybe I'm just paranoid about this due to him having an infection recently (before training).

I will try the step. When you teach them to use the loo standing up, do you get them to sort of hold it? Please don't make fun, I've never trained a boy before and I just thought that if he doesn't aim it somehow, there will be puddles all over the floor Grin.

Or maybe I should continue with sit down wees for now but without the padded seat??

cod · 22/04/2006 17:51

OMG HIS WILLY MAY TOUCH THE LOO?

arggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggh

cod · 22/04/2006 17:52

bin the seat before he insists on it when out tlel him tis only for babies

when out lean him forward holdinghim uineder the arms so he is liek rigid straight - this avoids the wet pant sydrome

you need to relax re germs!!!

Socci · 22/04/2006 17:58

I agree with cod about germs - if you're that concerned about germs you probably clean the loo a lot anyway so why worry?

We use a padded seat but clean it with hot water and anti-bacterial soap after use. The reason I got one is that mine fall in if we don't use a seat.

looneytune · 22/04/2006 18:55

I didn't say it MAY touch the loo, I said it DOES touch the loo. He had a horrible infection not that long ago and I was warned about germs with loos etc so that's why I'm worried. Not majorily worried but no harm seeking advice surely.

We only use the padded seat at home as he was EXTREMELY nervous at first so this made him feel safer (he saw mindee slip down the toilet once BlushGrin). We use proper toilet seat when out and I plan to get rid of padded seat anyway, just can't decide on whether to try standing up at home or to continue sitting but without the seat.

I'm not OTT with cleaning my loo, no, however I do it more than I used to now I'm childminding.

As I've said before, we've done standing up wees and that's all fine, outside. The only way I've tried standing up wees at home so far is by him putting it in the loo and then it flops against the rim of the loo (if that makes sense).

alittlebitshy · 22/04/2006 19:36

anyhow...... poos Grin
when do they get the hang? had 3 now today. all in pants, last one so so awful i've binned the pants! yukky!

moono · 22/04/2006 20:31

cod - not mad to start then give up, not in my case anyway. ds up to 2 months ago had very delayed speech so vocab not there for him to actually articulate his need or desire to wee.

Anyway, today he did first wee in his pull up before he got out of bed. He held on til 3pm to do the next one and that was through an hour and a half nap so I was delighted. I gave him a star at teatime for having dry pants and he has done 2 wees on the loo also. 3 stars equals a BOB sticker so he is really pleased with himself. May every day be this easy!

Mind you, dh and me are in hysterics with all this silly OTT handclapping! Grin

Passionflower · 22/04/2006 20:59

alittlebitshy I'll see your pants and raise you two more pants and one pj bottoms. Grin all consigned to the bin due unsalvageability.

But seriously, I was just feeling disheartened this evening about the three poo accidents we had today when I realised that there had been no wee accidents. Definitley progress on the wee front I feel Smile.

cod · 23/04/2006 08:12

well done moo no a great start - languaage doesnt seem to be vital ime so well done to you adn dh!

looney sorry mate did nt mean to attack but oy made me lol :)

cod · 23/04/2006 08:12

adn LOl@mindeee flalign dwon loo.

alex8 · 23/04/2006 10:03

all poos in pants here too. The only progress is that he soemtimes tells me hes done it. No wee accidents since tuesday but he still doesn't tell me much. I have to notice him clutching himself. The only times he tells me is early mornings or just before he goes to bed when he has a nappy on. In fact now I have to bribe/threaten him to go to the loo even if its painfully obvious he needs to go.

alittlebitshy · 23/04/2006 10:04

passionflower lol

i onder when the poo bit just "clicks"

alex8 · 23/04/2006 12:52

hes been doing his poo face all morning so keep rushing to the loo and nothing. Then he weed all over the kitchen floor. aaagh we had been in the loo about 10 times and he never said a thing. Then 30 mins later he poos his pants. I am so bored of this.

alittlebitshy · 23/04/2006 13:39

keep at it!!
keep ranting to us!

cod · 23/04/2006 14:45

right alex how old ios he?
you haev my permission to be corss and tell him off

sarahlou1uk · 23/04/2006 14:47

Hi. My ds is 3 years old and we started potty training yesterday. Had 3 wee accidents and one poo accident until the 5th attempt when he shouted me that he needed a poo. Sat him on his toilet seat and he did both down the toilet. Gave him lots of praise and stickers and even a new toy car. However, last night started with stomach bug and have ended up putting him back into pull up pants due to diahorrhea (can't spell that). Where do I go from here? Thought he had enough on his plate with sickness and runny bum without giving the poor little mite pants to worry about. He starts nursery tomorrow and I am in two minds whether or not to put him in pants or pull ups (that is if he goes if illness has cleared up). His teacher says pants and if he has an accident they'll just change him. However, due to the number of children they have in the class might not be straight away. This would traumatise him as he cannot stand any type of mess. Am I best to leave it until he is fully recovered on the runny bum part?

alex8 · 23/04/2006 19:26

hes 2 yrs 10 months. We were out at a meal for lunch time and he sort of asked to do a poo and a wee at different times as he liked going to the toilet. Then another poo in the pants later on a walk. The another on the way home. one step forward, 2 steps back! Still both of those poos would have been in a muddy field which wouldn't have been much fun anyway.
