  3. there is NO going bakc
do not start if oyu are going ot poof out
  1. remmeber it is hard work - hence hte training - yes life will be more difficult for a couple of weeks
  2. do NOT use pull ups for day time naps or anythin short of a 2 hour journey
  3. night training is a wholey seperate issue

RISK IT, RISK IT, RISK IT!!! I'm only saying that as I'm with the NO nappies/pull ups apart from bedtime. I'm also trying to get ds to tell me if he needs to go and I'll pull over. Have you got something with a waterproof lining or something that you could get dd to sit on? I started by having something under ds's bum and now I just have it in the car in case he has an accident so that he can sit on something dry after!

My female mindee was trained in July last year and we started with pull up on journey's in the car as she quite often fell asleep. She still used to ask to go and even when desperate, would cry and say how desperate rather than wee in the pull up - she was good but I reckon ds would just wee in it which is why I don't want to use them.

Is your dd going on potty, toilet or both?

frogs · 17/04/2006 19:16

Since everyone else is reporting success, I'll creep back in. Having originally requested an Easter thread we then never really joined, as dd2 cracked it within 24 hours. She still has the odd poo accident, usually when I've taken my eye off the ball and not made her sit on the potty for long enough after breakfast/supper. Or when someone has sneaked her an extra snack without me knowing. But they haven't been too messy, and she comes to find me straight away, looking a little crestfallen, clutching her bottom and intoning, 'O dear, o dear. Big girl pants. O dear. Ne mind. Ne mind.' Grin

Latz · 17/04/2006 19:44

Ok I'll risk it! :)

alex8 · 17/04/2006 20:00

latz my friend used those pampers disposable bed mats under the car seat cover just in case.

frogs does you dd tell you when she needs to poo? Or do you just sit her there at regular times.

frogs · 17/04/2006 20:08

No, she doesn't tell, at least not reliably. I just sit her on the potty after each meal time, and make one of the older children sit there with her reading books etc until she's performed.

Re the car travel thing -- we did a 2 hour car journey with dd2 last week, only a week into training and she was fine, even though she slept on the way back. I did pad out the car seat with an opened-out disposable and a terry nappy over the top, but it wasn't needed.

alex8 · 17/04/2006 20:12

aah ok maybe I'm asking for too much hoping he will tell me. He is not very regular, some days nothing and some days 3 or 4 so there is no pattern I could work around.

frogs · 17/04/2006 20:18

Dd2 wasn't particularly regular in her pooing habits, either. She has become more regular through me sitting her on the potty morning and evening and saying, "It's time to do a poo now" every few minutes.

It's not called boot camp for nothing, remember. Grin Poor dd2 now strains demonstratively when asked to do a poo, even if nothing emerges. She has also been known to sit on the potty shouting, " Come ou, poo! Ou you come now!"

Heathcliffscathy · 17/04/2006 23:14

2 accidents today. seems to be getting worse. :(

meysey · 17/04/2006 23:47

Easter Sunday was chaos - too many visitors, too much chocolate, too much excitement and tiredness and lots of weeing all over the floor

BUT today we had a family day out and not a single accident!

My current worry is that he is now a sweetie addict and is still demanding them every time he wees/poos. I am convinced he even splits up his wees so he can get more...

melsy · 18/04/2006 08:45

well day 9 in wee wee house , and dd doing very well ,despite dh having to take over since Friday , as I had a bad tummy bug. Must brace oneself for small setbacks , but we had family afternoon and evening at my sisters on Sunday and not one accident , no poo mind , but still fabuloso. We also had a day out in central London all day and evening yesterday , car, boats , bridges the lot and not one accident , was very proud of my littleo.

Wehey on everyone else doing well by day8 , others who are still getting there, it will click , it will , it will.

looneytune · 18/04/2006 09:04

sophable - hang in there, my ds got worse before he got better!

meysey - lol about splitting wees - my ds did that Wink He now only gets chocolate for poos in potty or toilet, not wees. He's accepted that now :)

melsy - great feeling isn't it!! I was smiling loads yesterday :)

ADVICE NEEDED

Whilst I was giving baby mindee her breakfast this morning, ds did the funniest thing - he went upstairs, took his bottom layers off, went in his wardrobe, got a pull up and put it on, poo'd in it then shouted 'mummy, i poo'd in my pull up'. ShockGrin

I was quite impressed with his initiative however I don't want him doing this obviously! I don't understand why sometimes he's fine with going in the potty and others he has a problem and says he's scared to????

Anyone else had problems like this? Anything I should be doing to help ds?

HandbagAddiction · 18/04/2006 09:06

Having kept up with this thread with interest but not posting (PC at home completely knackered - so I'm reliant on work!), I think I'm in need of some wise words of wisdom!!

So in the handbag household, we have been attempting potty training for 3 days - since Saturday morning. dd is 2.8 . Whilst it's not been a comlpete disaster, it's also not been too successfuly either...however, I'm very reluctant to go backwards.

Situation is that dd really wants to wear pants and does not want to wear nappies anymore during the day (we've explained the while nappies for sleep time, etc.). We've also established that she does have good bladder control and knows when she wants to wee - lots of jiggling, holding herself etc. She will also sit on the potty.

However our problem appears to be one of disassociation, i.e. will NOT do a wee or poo sitting on the potty for some reason and gets very anxious at the thought of having to do one when it's blindingly obvious that she really needs to go. (We did get two successes on Day 2 which were duly rewarded). I will admit that we have somehow got ourselves into the habit of 'asking her' if she wants to use the potty, rather than just taking her...but she's as stubborn as anything and to be honest - picking up her and physically placing her on the potty seems to generate as much if not more upset...and I really don't want to make her phobic.

So - where do I go from here and what have we been doing wrong?!

All critiscisms or helpful suggestions welcomed..... Smile

frogs · 18/04/2006 09:10

Hi hba!

Yes, you need to tell, not ask. Could you acquire a special set of toys (something fiddly is best) that are only used when she is sitting on the potty? This is how I keep dd2 there long enough to do her poos.

HandbagAddiction · 18/04/2006 09:40

Hi Frogs! I agree, we do need to 'tell her' we're going to use the potty but when we have tried this, it seems to upset her even more. I will put my thinking cap on with respect to special toys etc. She loves books and we have been using these as a 'bribe'. But interestingly though when we do get her to sit on it, she tells us - 'I'm not doing a wee-wee now'...which makes me think she's somehow got it into her head that doing a wee on it is a bad thing. Even the treat of watching an episode of Charlie and Lola if she did a wee doesn't appear to have made any difference!!

meysey · 18/04/2006 18:20

2 wee accidents today... no rhyme or reason, both at home and not when we were out buying paint...

he is better when we are out and about - maybe it's a boy thing, finding interesting things to wee on!

I can see it's going to be a long haul!

melsy · 18/04/2006 18:31

Lol meysey at finding things to wee on !!

so day 9 I think in melsy wee house , no accidents , but an attempt to clean her own poo up around the loo!! yes around ; taps, sink , floor, seat etc . Oh well I was chuffed she actually did a poo 1st time in loo, what a development. What a long way in 9 days wow , cant believe we dont have nappys ton change during the day anymore, but boy does she wee a lot!!!

Kittypickle · 18/04/2006 18:34

Last two days rubbish. DH in charge yesterday so his fault. Started nursery today and have only managed 1 poo in potty today. Rubbish ending to nursery when he got out and was found in the road by another mother. Quite amazing that poo was after that incident the state I felt in.

Latz · 18/04/2006 18:48

Still going fine and she managed to hold on while going round Tesco today - took her to car and put potty on rear seat and she performed!

Am so chuffed!!

looneytune · 18/04/2006 19:34

I'm dead chuffed too as no accidents again and ds managed to do a stand up wee at the park (thanks to the advice about holding under arms and leaning forward :))

Only problem is with the poo thing again. I mentioned earlier he got a pull up himself and did it. He seems scared and I believe him as he says he wants to make me 'sooooooo happy' but can't as he's scared :( Poor thing.

Suggestions???
