Bekki, James hasn't had lamb yet and TBH the amount of meat compared to veg is so tiny that I suspect it's no worth the effort anyway. I'd much rather have a baby like your little Alex as food for all 3 DS's here is a minefield. James will probably have one mouth full and then spray it all over me with a raspberry blow

As for sleep he has one long one in the afternoon of about 2 hours and just catnaps through the rest of the day, we have no real sleep routine during the day, maybe that's what the problem is with his nighttime waking. He's absolutley knackered by 7:30pm so goes to bed then something with a battle but mostly willingly and settles himself. That's a novelity in this house I can tell you....DS1+2 never did that EVER!

Bekki · 18/02/2004 11:12

Is all of his food fully pureed or can he eat food that is just mushy now
Alexander is having his second nap of the day, which should last half an hour. I think he cat naps but I never chart it properly.

emmatmg · 18/02/2004 11:20

Well most of my plain veg stuff is a tiny bit lumpy although I blend it as much as I can, the tiny lumps just won't blend.
However the mint lamb and veg DID puree very properly and looks very smooth so went I try him with it it might be a success as it's more like the jars.

He's just dozzed off now, he's only slept for about 30 since 5:30 this morning!!!!!

You must be shattered!
James has better meals than I do!
I used to hate spending so much time cooking, pureeing just to have ds1 rub it in his eyes, hair, throw it on the floor and then eventually throw it up!

emmatmg · 18/02/2004 11:46

Awake again....so that's about 40 minutes since 5:30....no hang on a minute....today was a really bad one it was 4:53 when I first looked at the clock with him wanting to play.

Seems like days ago!

emmatmg · 18/02/2004 11:47

Ahh yes bekki.....he may have better meal MADE for him but it won't bloody eat them

Bekki · 18/02/2004 11:49

Maybe he'll go down earlier tonight and sleep through.

emmatmg · 18/02/2004 11:59

Certainly hope so.

BTW I read your other thread about your DS1 but I didn't post, you had so much good advice that I couldn't have added more especially as I have no experience of it. I hope it all turns out well, Are you DH and mum being more supportive?

Bekki · 18/02/2004 12:11

Yes, thankyou. Dh and mum are now starting to tell me their concerns about his behaviour, so yes they are being more supportive.
Dh is now spending every last second playing with him, drawing, reading, going to the park. I think hes blaming himself.
We have to keep him away from Alex. It breaks my heart but I just can't risk Alex being hurt anymore. A few days ago ds1 threw Alex off the bed and later on he bit him so hard that it drew blood.
He should be fine now that we are going to see the right people. Getting the recognition is half the battle.

emmatmg · 18/02/2004 12:23

Blimey Bekki, you poor thing. I do hope that seeing someone help you all, most of all DS1. I'm sure he loves his little brother to bits and once some questions are answered he'll show it.

That is very sad about the biting. I can't begin to imagine how you feel. Did actually throw him or was a more of a push from the bed? Mine both do that with James, when he's wriggling about and they are playing with him he gets so close to the edge that I am amazed he hasn't fallen off. If I'm not in the room he goes in the cot now because they just won't leave him alone. Just as well really now thats he's rolling as soon as he's put down.

Bekki · 18/02/2004 12:38

I didn't see it but dh says that ds1 threw him but it must have been a push.
Nevermind my mistake don't leave Alex with dh and ds1!

Took Jenny to be weighed on Tuesday, just out of curiosity, knew she was getting heavier but just wanted to see how much. In 5 weeks she put on 4lbs!

emmatmg · 27/02/2004 14:41

BLIMEY!

Can we have some of what Jenny is eating as James was weighed today and has only put on 7oz in 2 weeks.

4lbs.....that is good going

Ailsa · 27/02/2004 21:12

She eats just about everything that's put into her mouth! She has a mixture of heinz tins and freshly cooked food. The only heinz food that she doesn't like is cheese and parsnip bake, and, lamb with rosemary.

Before this growth spurt she was constant on the 25th centile, but now she's on the 75th.

suzywong · 27/02/2004 21:25

Hello

Have you got any suggestions for finger food, ie food they can hold in their own hands and gum on themselves?
Although it was only 2.4 yrs ago I was doing this with DS1 I have forgotten.

Thanks

wiltshire · 28/02/2004 20:14

Hi girlies, how are we all. It has just taken me about 40 minutes to catch up with this thread. Sorry I haven't posted but we have had lots of building work done recently and pc was moved into place where it was hard to use with Max. Well theres lots of different stages going on with all of your littlies! Max is 22 wks now and weighs 14lb 11. He is on breakfast (whole farleys rusk) lunch (something in a jar/pudding) and a little dinner. Probably about half a jar. My HV said that 20 ounces of milk a day is about right at this stage (what does everyone think about that) I did start to make my own food, but as was said before, couldn't be arsed as he seems to throw it up down & all around. He sleeps from 8pm to 8am and has several naps during the day of roughly 30 minutes. he has no teeth.

I have been searching for childcare this week which was a very very daunting task. I am going back to work at the end of may.Anyway hopefully I can resume being a sept mummy. I have rather missed you all.

OP posts:
emmatmg · 28/02/2004 20:27

YAAAYYYYY.... Wilt......so glad to hear from you and little Max.

Funnily enough I was just thinking today that I can soon stop my battle with milk as at around 6 months 20oz is enough, certainly once James is eating 3 proper meals I'll reduce it to that.

He's a funny little thing and will eat almost anything from a jar (except fruit) but just clamps his mouth shut for homecooked stuff. He LOVES cauliflower cheese (from jars) but it smells sooooooooooooo bad. I'm mixing a tablespoon of that with homecooked food in the hope that I can convince him of my culinary expertise. Seems to be working okay today.

No teeth here either and the young man weighs 15lb. Still waking for a bloody nighttime feed too!

Ailsa · 29/02/2004 12:43

Forgot to say Jenny's having 32oz of formula each day. When she has lunch and tea she has a savoury AND a dessert. I had been thinking of dropping her lunchtime bottle and giving some weak juice instead, she won't drink water. They tried at nursery and she just spat the whole lot out, and will only use one particular cup.

emmatmg · 29/02/2004 13:05

Suzy, James quite often attacks my toast in the mornings so although he's not doing it himself it is sort of finger food.
If I have to cheek to take it away he make a mad grab for my arm to get the soggy toast back to gum it

Ailsa, funnily enough I just tried James with some water after his lunch and he spat it out too. As we've got slow weigh gain I'll continue with milk until the magical 6 months and then it's 20oz and I can stop the fight.

Wilt, I have I feeling you knew all that what I replied to your post. I didn't think about what I had already said further down the thread. Derrrrrrrrr!

I've now got a LOVELY recipe for cauliflower cheese from nanny pam (not real nanny but someone who has been a 2nd mum to me forever) and if that doesn't convince James that my homecooked food is good nothing will. The jars of it smell sooooo bad it's gross!

Ailsa · 29/02/2004 18:39

Jenny hits the magical 6 months on Tuesday.

Ailsa · 20/03/2004 00:15

How are all the September babes?

emmatmg · 20/03/2004 07:49

Well, I've given up the fight with James to eat homecooked food and he has jars now. He's a funny little thing and will eat a whole jar of something he has NEVER tasted before but anything that I offer him that's being painstakingly prepared by me gets refused. Lips clamped, gagging, raspberries, head shaking (like he's saying 'no' ) even when I've got it to the exact same consistency as a jar. Very odd.
Still waking at night and draining a 5oz bottle (would prob drink more if I made it). 3 meals a day and still waking....does that sound right to you all? DS1+2 both slept through from 6-8 weeks so James is at the other end of the scale at nearly 6 months.

No sign of any teeth, rolls over with ease, can sit up on laps unaided and on floor for a short while. Oh and he's the most ticklish baby I've ever encountered and will giggle and giggle. Awwwwwwww.

We're a quiet bunch aren't we.......Would be lovely to hear from everyone.

emmatmg · 20/03/2004 10:19

Anyone else........?

It's only been me and you(Ailsa) for a while now, How's Jenny?....hope everyone else is doing ok.....where are you all?

Ailsa · 20/03/2004 23:32

Hi Emma, Jenny's fine, trying desperately to sit up, have to watch her though if I prop her up on the sofa. If I put her at the wrong angle she sits up and topples over.

She's still feeding really well, tried her on home cooked food this week and she ate it to my great surprise, my other 2 wouldn't. Maybe it's because her nursery give home cooked meals, when I dropped her off on Thursday I could smell the apples pies being baked in the kitchen. Jenny's started having mashed food rather than pureed and seems to be coping well with the lumps. Jenny and Joe (who's only 2 days older, and I know his mum from work) are notorius for liking their food. Each member of staff has 3 babies to feed, but can't get round them fast enough before Jenny and Joe are shouting for more.

Jenny's got a cold at the moment, she was awake on and off from about 4.30 on Friday morning because of her snotty nose. Also had her big sister in bed with us because she'd had a nightmare. Went to work on Friday absolutely knackered.

I think I must have THE text book baby, she sleeps, eats when she should. My ds didn't sleep through until he was 2 YEARS old and we still have problems getting him to bed now he's 6½. Sorry Emma, non of this is really what you want to hear, but hope things improve soon. How many times does James wake in the night? With my ds it was 2 or 3 times EVERY night.

ANGELMOTHER · 21/03/2004 00:06

Well Ladies it's been sooo long since I got on here that I barely know where to start but congrats on what seems like a bunch of happy healthy babies.
I can console some to say at nearly 6 ths now Elycia has "slept through" (don't you just hate that phrase) a handfull of nights and I have become used to feeling like the living dead permanently. On the up she's absolutely beautiful and the happiest, cooiest baby. She's munching on rusks, bread sticks, apple and her fave cucumber sticks but never seems patient enough to let me feed her. I love my Bumbo seat I sit her up and hand her some cucumber while I prepare dd1's lunch and she watches me and chews.
I finally ceased the b/feeding about 10 days ago and feel sad but honestly a little releived and more like myself. I got all my hair cut short and have manged to lose a few pounds and am starting to feel a bit more woman than mother again.
Just today we moved dd2 into her own room so right now I should probably be enjoying some reading in bed but am up late on the promise of a lie in in the morning

Gurgles to all
