My thyroid is overactive which makes your hair fall out anyway but it's falling out even more so at the moment. An overactive thyroid makes you sweat more, heart beat faster, higher blood pressure, less sleep - at one point before I was diagnosed I was surviving on 4 hours sleep per night and not feeling particularly tired, this lasted for about 6 months.
Did anyone see Holby City a couple of weeks ago, the woman that had her baby in that episode had an overactive thyroid although hers was undiagnosed. The attack she had after the birth scared the living daylights out of me because that could've been me had we not had an emergency cs. When I first discovered that I was pregnant and went to see the consultant, he also scared the living daylights out of me because one of the complications could have been a still birth, with I think is the reason I was more emotional once Jenny had arrived safely, it could have been so much worse.
Apologies if I've scared anyone, but it is worth getting your thyroid levels checked. I've got an appointment next week at which they'll probably up my dosage, in which case I'd better drop out of the mumsnet mammas, when the medication really kicks in, it is virtually impossible not to put on any weight. When I first started treatment, it was summer and I was eating nothing but salad and still putting loads of weight on! Consultant said I had to put up with it.
