Hi, hope you find this thread. The old one was too big.
Varifocals eh? Not sure I'd fancy that.
DP took me out to lunch today, to The Ivy. Twas really nice, good food and service, great decor, lovely stained glass windows. I only saw one sleb - Trisha Goddard with (I presume) her daughter.
I had seared scallops with bacon, followed by the rib-eye with chips and creamed spinach (with too much nutmeg in it).
It's been a funny old week. The house is a tip because I've hardly been in it (except to catch up on sleep). We're off on holiday on Saturday morning and I've organised nothing. Gulp!

Erm...don't know really. I guess I'm pleased there is no damage. In a warped kind of way though, if there had been something to see it might be easier to do something about it.

MattBellamysMuse · 17/02/2010 16:24

I didn't get any numbers either, just a 'normal'. But then it was done with a load of other blood tests.

MattBellamysMuse · 17/02/2010 21:48

I've just bought a Merlin Pass, which gives the family unlimited (well, a little bit limited) access to Legoland, Chessington, Thorpe Park, London Eye, London Aquarium, Alton Towers, Madame Tussauds, London Dungeon etc for a year!
Brilliant. We'll use it for the first time tomorrow at the Aquarium (couldn't go to Legoland as it's not open yet).
We had glorious springtime weather here today. What was it like where you are?
Berrie, put down that glass of wine (if you're still up)

ghostofoggs · 18/02/2010 07:26

Bloody f-f-f-f-f-freezing here. Water frozen again .

Berrie · 18/02/2010 08:07

No wine in this house!
Have a lovely day Lyra.
Dd is having her hair cut off today and then I've said we will go swimming.

ghostofoggs · 18/02/2010 08:46

I need to book an appointment for dd to have her hair cut short. She's off to Edinburgh next week on her school trip.

Bbbrrrrr. Swimming. In this weather.

Berrie · 18/02/2010 13:47

Hair chopped short - tick

Swimming - tick (perhaps not quite the thing to do with lovely blow dried hair)

Tidying bloody bomb site of house?....er

Ironing?...Mmmm

MattBellamysMuse · 18/02/2010 20:50

It's freezing here too Oggs. The house just will not warm up.
We had a lovely day. Lunch at a Japanese restaurant then off to the Aquarium, which was amazing. The boys absolutely loved it. Then we went on the London Eye after dark to see London lit up and then headed home.
It's been horrible weather - rainy, grey and cold.

MattBellamysMuse · 18/02/2010 20:51

Can you post before and after pics of DD, Berrie?

Berrie · 19/02/2010 19:10

&%$ %%&$£!!**

WHAT a day!
Have just got back from an entire day trying to find a home to take FIL. I have visited the most vile, miserable, smelly places.
Dh had the day off so that we could go for a family day out but this wasn't what he had in mind. The kids were very good considering how unpleasant it all was. Finally, finally we have found somewhere to take him. (Did not get the chance to visit this one though) and dh has dropped us off so he can go back and take his Dad to the home. It wasn't just the stress of it all but the emotional pressure too. It was very sad.
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I am desperate for a drink...DESPERATE! If the neighbours were in next door, I would knock and request a shifty snifter before DH gets back. It is probably as well that they are out.

MattBellamysMuse · 20/02/2010 00:29

Sorry you had such a crap day Berrie. Is FIL now in the home? have you or DH seen it? It does sound like it's the best thing for him to have round-the-clock care but I can understand his reluctance to go into one.
I hope you have a better day tomorrow (today? is that the time? Aw crap)

LyraSilvertongue · 20/02/2010 00:49

Time to change back methinks.

OP posts:
Berrie · 20/02/2010 09:17

dd's hair

Berrie · 20/02/2010 09:21

FIL went to the home last night. I have not seen it yet but Dh said it was ok. It's in a beautiful position so God knows how much it costs. The other one we considered, in a horrible location was £760 a week. At least it was clean and not smelly. I urge you to urge your parents to put their homes in trust...

Berrie · 20/02/2010 09:24

What are you doing up at that time Lyra you nutter?

We didn't drink...I searched the house I reckon we've saved about £50 on booze since last weekend!
I do however, have a rotten withdrawal headache.

LyraSilvertongue · 20/02/2010 17:06

I was up till after 3am
DD's hair looks lovely. She looks a lot like you doesn't she.
How will FIL's home be funded? Through his savings? Or will you and DH have to pay?

OP posts:
Berrie · 20/02/2010 18:38

No no, FIl has savings, once they are gone he'll have to sell his house and when that is gone he will get it free.
His solicitor told him there were ways of protecting his house but he said he didn't want to do anything 'dodgy'.
I know that things have to be this way in order to fund care for the elderly acoss the country but we can't help wishing, since this was inevitable, he'd given us some of his bloody money!

Berrie · 20/02/2010 18:45

Did Dh get up with the kids then?

I told Dd I was going to have my hair cut like hers today. She said no, I couldn't have cute hair like hers as she liked me to have it long. I had a good 12 cm taken off though as it's been a long time since my back has been up to sitting in a hairdresser's chair and it was all raggedy.(still long though) It's all sleek and ironed now. It looks a bit funny as I'm not a very sleek ironed type person. I don't suppose I'll be able to tie it in a knot any more either. Is yours still braided?

I am having a bloody drink tonight as I'm arsing well depressed as *!%&. I have bought Dh some alcohol free Becks.

Looks like Oggs is offline again.

LyraSilvertongue · 20/02/2010 21:03

I read that at 12ins I thought 'she can't have anything left!'. Mine's still braided but looking crap now so I'll have to do something about it ASAP.

It's really unfair that your FIL has to spend his savings and sell his house to fund the home. I'm sure that's not what he had in mind when he bought it.
People who work hard and save and pay off a mortgage have to pay for themselves when people who've spent all their money get it free. And the Scots get it free too - incredibly unfair when the money comes out of the pot we ALL pay into.
Hope you're enjoying/enjoyed your drink. One night off the wagon won't hurt.
The boys have only just gone to bed. I'm re-reading Eclipse tonight (again). It's like visiting an old friend

SNOOOOOOW!

ghostofoggs · 21/02/2010 09:32

Hellloooooooo!!

Sorry - haven't been around much for various reasons.

Berrie, as of today I'm joining you on the wagon. Will be concentrating on how much better I feel in the mornings and how much more knitting I can do in the evenings .

Sorry you've been having a crappy time of it with poor FIL. It can't have been easy. I'm glad you found a home that you feel happy with.
I can totally empathise with you from both sides of the fence. My fil had to go into a residential home and the cost of care totally ate away his savings. He died before it got to the stage of selling the house to fund the care but it did for all his savings.

I also worked on a residential wards for the elderly both private and NHS when I was training as a psychiatric nurse. Some of them are awful .

Lyra it's not quite as simple as you said. Yes, some personal and nursing care is funded for the elderly but that is not the cost of accomodation etc.
As far as I can tell if you have savings when you need to go into care (regardless of where you are) then you have to contribute/pay for your accomodation.
There are NHS places for those with no money but I think if you have the money you pay until you have no money left .

It doesn't bear thinking about.

Dh's aunt will be 81 this year and is becoming increasingly more infirm. At the moment she is in her own home but we (and she) are dreading her having to go into care.

ghostofoggs · 21/02/2010 09:36

No snow here but bloody cold.

Dh and dd have gone off with one of the ponies for a riding lesson. We're hoping that somebody at the stables will fall in love with him and want to buy him.
The pony that is. Not dh. Although depending on the price I might be willing to consider .

Lyra, the photos of the boys photoshoot are great. They are both very photogenic

Berrie dd's hair looks lovely.

I need to try and book dd in to have her hair cut before she goes away on Wed.

ghostofoggs · 21/02/2010 09:42

Did you see the latest photos?

MMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

LyraSilvertongue · 21/02/2010 19:58

No no no. I have my Edward in my head as I'm reading the books. I don't want that messed up by film Edward.
Snow at last Berrie .

OP posts:
ghostofoggs · 21/02/2010 20:49

They aren't photos of him in any of the Twilight films though Lyra. Just him looking seriously hot

I've been having a bit of a DTfest. Loads of Doctor Who, and last night, 3 hours of Blackpool.
