francaghostohollywood · 20/10/2009 13:53

Aw that's fab rosa!!!! So of those children ... can't you move to milan !
I wouldn't rule it out, Halloween is becoming popular in Italy (oh and I remember when I came to venice last yr there were lots of children doing trick or treat in the calli, I thought it was lovely!), even nuns need to modernize !

JavierBardem · 20/10/2009 14:25

lol at the suore doing trick or treats!

quite depressed after listening to nick griffin (bnp guy) on the radio, unfortunately he is a very articulate man - he is going to be on Question Time on Thursday!!!! Goodness, I will be glued to the sofa full of anxiety

but very pleased at being able to cross a few things of my chores list

enjoy the teaching rosa!

still con guerra e pace, are you joining me franca now that the weather is turning there?

that pipi thread is still going, everything iks always so extreme on mnet

francaghostohollywood · 20/10/2009 14:29

That Bnp guy is scary, isn't he. What did he say?

I know I should join you with war and peace, but I am too scared . I'm finishing patria at the moment and have a huge pile of books on my bedside table.

I'm off to get the dc and today I have ds's assemblea di classe to vote for the rappresentate. It's going to drag on for hrs. Heeeeeelp!

gio71 · 20/10/2009 14:29

thats good news Rosa, you looking forward to it? Breakthrough re aerosol. If I let him hold the mask and we play games from the Thomas land website on my laptop then he has consented to do it without going mad.
Saw that thread - WTF!! I feel like I am a stranger in my own country when I read things like that. My son will continue to wee between parked cars and behind trees or wherever we need to do it and I will continue to think it's harmless!
Poor ds, he has nearly lost his voice with this bloody thing, he sounds so pathetic and reedy!

francaghostohollywood · 20/10/2009 14:30

Yes, I can't believe people feel so strongly about small children pipi. It's the least of my concerns

francaghostohollywood · 20/10/2009 14:31

well said gio.
have to dash, a dopo!

gio71 · 20/10/2009 14:35

that Nick BNP guy is frightening. The "reasonable" face of fascism is so worrying. Much easier to dismiss a load of skinheads protesting as just thugs. They are vile!
Speaking of vile politicians dp was saying yesterday re Berlusca being implicated in the Borsellini/Falcone murders. This has passed me by and didnt really listen to him with ds being ill. Anyone? Am I behind the times and this is old news?

Camomilla · 20/10/2009 15:17

aerosol, that's what I had to get back in italy... I didn't really use it when I was little, I just have memories of my dad using loads though.

just 5 mins, DP's taken DD to pick DS up from school while I iron the last 2 shirts - feel like I've been ironing all day but only done a few things, as DD found it hilarious to pull the iron cord... and I was just about to drop off (temp came back) after lunch, when she woke up FGS!! got her up at 7am and still she would sleep less than 1 hr after lunch!!

I remember when DS woke up with no voice, he was about 3, I felt sorry, but he sounded so funny..

Rosa, you'd be teaching an anglosaxon tradition so I think it'd be ok, it's perfect so you teach vocabulary etc, much simpler. You could mention to the nuns if you feel uncomfortable.

that BNP guy, really, I just laugh (though he is serious and unfortunately some listen to him) at the stuff he comes out with sometimes...

JB, I'm hoping to get DD in her room in the next couple of weeks so then I can read at night and will put in some more time on W&P, atm I can only read it on the train so not going very far and fast....

TantiK · 20/10/2009 20:16

Ciao tutti - sorry it's been a while since I have been on here, I promise I will pop on again tomorrow to update on life and to see how you all are properly. I just have a quick question on scuola materna etiquette! DS was sent home from school on Monday with earache and a sore throat. I went to the Drs on Monday and she said that he had a virus and to keep him home all week. He was a bit down on Monday at first, but soon perked up in the afternoon and has been happily playing away all day today. No signs of high temp or anything and certainly doesn't seem that ill. He has said he wants to go to school tomorrow - should I send him? My english tendencies would be to send him - but I don't want to upset any Italian mums!! I get so confused as to what to do when they are ill these days here in Italy! Thanks all. xx

francaghostohollywood · 20/10/2009 20:24

Gio, yes. You can read about it here for instance.

Camo, sorry to hear you are still under the weather.

I've just been told by the math teacher that ds is a chiaccherone. She sounded exhausted

francaghostohollywood · 20/10/2009 20:25

Hello Tantik, how are things? glad to see you !

If he is temp free and perky I'd send him.

Rosa · 20/10/2009 20:31

Hi Tantik .I would probably do another day just to see if it came back again as there are some nasty virus round right now. Then if all clear then would send back on Thurs.
How are things ?
DH asked me if I could send my outift back if we will not be going to the wedding on sat .....Minirosa still has temp . Probably will but will keep the boots !!!!!
As for Halloween it will probably clash with me teaching them hello and goodbye I have visions of little Venetians going round saying Halloween instead of hello !!!!

OP posts:
francaghostohollywood · 20/10/2009 20:44

which boots did you get rosa?

Penthesileia · 20/10/2009 21:10

Franca! I've emailed you.

Hello all.

So sorry to hear about all the little babies feeling unwell. I really hope everyone is on the mend now.

DD had a temp. of 39.8 last week, but no other symptoms... Probably teething, I have concluded.

Is Question Time on now?

Sputnik · 20/10/2009 21:14

Nice to see you again Tantik. I would do as Rosa said, if they are off for more than 5 days you'll need a doctor's letter but otherwise ok I think. Hope everything is fine with you and your new(ish!) baby.

Sputnik · 20/10/2009 21:18

Hi Penthe, DS had some really high temperatures with teething too.

Actually I've just come to the conclusion DS is teething, I had assumed he was done with it ages ago, but he has all the signs. Hpe this will be the last lot.

Camomilla · 20/10/2009 21:48

Hi Tantik, I'd keep him off another day too. DS had similar last year, GP said keep him off for a week, but he was fine so sent him to school, came back home with temp saying teacher had told him I should have kept him off...

had parents evening, teacher really happy, DS has made huge progress in the last 3-4 wks, just need to practice handwriting (but the calligrapher (sp?) in me had already bought handwriting exercise book for him ). Apparently he's friends with everyone, occasionally he has little "Mrs x, brat Y has taken my pencil" moments, and little "attitude" moments (like he has at home too, basically mimicking "the brats") . so happy and proud with him. Plus they have a TA who's italian and spoken occasionally with DS in italian so I said that she can do that as much as she wants!

Camomilla · 20/10/2009 21:50

hello penthe, how is it going with the nanny?

Sputnik · 20/10/2009 21:58

That's great Camo, my DD has similar handwriting problems though her reading is quite good, perhaps I should get hold of a book too. Is yours one of those ones with letters in dots you have to go over?

francaghostohollywood · 20/10/2009 22:02

Penthe

Camo, well done your ds!

Camomilla · 20/10/2009 22:08

yes, a bargain from the pound shop! they have pages of just letters to copy, then dotted letters, then words (and two stickers for each page, most importantly ). teacher gave me tonight a photocopy of letters grouped according to "type" (i.e. curved, zigzagged etc) with a dot of where to start drawing the letter from IYKWIM (which is really DS' problem, he has the most complicated way of writing "e" for example). I could photocopy it and send it to you if you want (she suggested laminating it so he can go over the letters with whiteboard marker), or maybe scan it and e-mail it, with the royal mail strike on....

Sputnik · 20/10/2009 22:19

Well if you're not too busy to scan it that would be fab, my email is [email protected]
I keep meaning to ask DD's teacher if she managed to get her to hold a pen properly, we didn't manage but it would probably help!

Penthesileia · 20/10/2009 22:33

Sorry I vanished - was working.

Yes, teething it is then, Sputnik. Nice to hear others' experience of the same, IYKWIM.

Nanny back on track, thanks, Camo. I chickened out decided not to post in the childminders/nannies (almost wrote child-miners - Monty Python Yorkshiremen, etc.!) as I reckoned they would shout at me for being feeble and not strict enough. I am particularly scared of one fearsome nanny-employer who appears to have taken no shit. Ever. Anyway. Had a gentle chat with nanny - mostly along the lines of "I hope illness is not a way of telling us you are unhappy", and she was very insistent that it was not, and that she loved the job, etc. I believe her. Poor thing. She was ill. Not her fault. Not anyone's fault. Just bad, bad luck. Sigh.

On a brighter note, DD did not cry when I left her today!!!!! I hope it lasts...

Camomilla · 20/10/2009 23:22

Sput, will try tomorrow. have you tried those pencil grippers thing, i know they use them in DS's class? I got Ds those weird pens and pencils and they seem to help

Penthe, glad all ok on the nanny front, especially DD not crying!!
