I have recently, but the item still hasn't arrived, they aren't answering emails or voicemail messages, and I'm starting to think that they might have gone under.
Anyone ever bought anything from them??

I just rang Consumer Direct. I explained to them that I will probably get my money back from Paypal, but that this website has to be stopped ASAP to prevent further victims. I'm sure that there are many more people than us who have been taken in by the clean plausible web design. And people are spending A LOT of money with this company, hundreds of pounds in many cases, which you can ill afford when you are expecting a baby.

The woman I spoke to at Consumer Direct seemed to take it pretty seriously, but she did say that the more people who ring Consumer Direct to make a complaint, the quicker Trading Standards will deal with it. So PLEASE if you do have time (I know it's difficult to find time!) just give Consumer Direct a quick call to report them. Their number is 08454 04 05 06.

MINITRIP - Can I ask what they said to you I called them they said I need to send a letter via recorded delivery. Is this what they said to you ?

minitrip · 01/05/2009 18:11

Babywaby, I just said to them that it is not in my interests to pursue it because I will probably get me money back from Paypal anyway.

I just pointed out that there are loads of people on Mumsnet who have lost an awful lot of money, and that the website should be shut down as soon as possible before anyone else loses money.

I think if you point out that you aren't the only one, and that you have heard of lots of other people who have lost money they might listen. I guess you just have to get the right operator - some just go with the standard protocol.

OK girls, I think that's it for me for Mumsnet.

It's been nice lurking and occasionally posting when time permits.

Maybe I've helped some people, I've certainly been helped a lot over the years by referring to the archive.

But this- yes - censorship actually takes the biscuit.

For the second time I've had a post taken down which refers to publicly and freely available information you can get on a publicly funded website. It's Companies House. It's not Wikileaks. It's unbelievably basic and public info. (Make sure you refer to the free search facility on that site if you ever need to check out a company which is cheating you and your children of your hard earned money. Directors details are all there as well. Its part of the checks and balances required in a capitalist society.)

The posts have been deleted twice. No explanation from Mumsnet either on this thread or on my email. To say I am disappointed with this behaviour is an understatement.

I have been on the site for several years now as Catinthehat and Catinthehat1. That is it for me I am afraid.

I will probably lurk to see how long it takes for this post to be taken down, but I won't have anything to say. I will also copy this post to Chat, Flouncers Corner, and Site Stuff with cross references to this thread. I hope a few people see it but it's a slow night so I don't think it will amount to many people, but do try and remember what has happened here.

Please consider what this means for your freedom to think, explore and share information. Consider the principles which are important to you, and those which are important to the owners of this site. It's certainly been an eyeopener for me.

(Bye Justine)

I don't know what info catinthehat has posted from Companies House, but you can get info on the registered owner of the sobaby website (free) from www.whois.com

Thank you all - I am so pleased to have seen this. I was going to place an order with them this week for my ds2 birthday present as it was the cheapest I had found. It was not a small order - £60. So I am really pleased that I know about them now.

Thanks again and I hope you all get your money back.

Well I would imagine that either Angela Gordon is a MN'er, or the MNHQ know her personally. I too received the email.
My resolution disute with Paypal is up and running and she is communicating with me via the Paypal site.

My last note from her is to say that she'll contact me today with a tracking number for the parcel which is now in stock and ready for dispatch.

However, the dispute remains open until either I receive the parcel or we get to Friday with no parcel and then I'll escalate the dispute to a claim.

I'm awaiting the tracking number today and will let her know on Wednesday (if no number materialises) that if the parcel doesn't arrive by 5pm Friday she'll have a claim on her hands.

I too have no problem with taking legal action, but I would imagine Paypal will refund me.

saintlydamemrsturnip · 05/05/2009 12:44

There's a response from Justine on another thread. A fair response I think.

saintlydamemrsturnip · 05/05/2009 12:45

sorkycakey · 05/05/2009 12:55

i too am in the same situation, although not a huge amount of money, the principle is the same and the fact that there are so many of us complaining about the appalling customer service from "so baby" makes me more irate and makes me want to take action.

i have contacted watchdog today and am prepared to take it further. one suggestion would be to contact her suppliers and make them aware that she is not delivering. they will all undoubtedly have a customer service department and perhaps some won't care but maybe some will.

anything to shake up this shocking customer service.

minitrip · 05/05/2009 19:35

Bibaboo, if you have time it's worth contacting Consumer Direct too: 08454 04 05 06

They say that the more of us who complain to them the quicker Trading Standards will investigate.

Mention the fact that there are lots of us in the same position.

Sorkycakey, Paypal have dropped my dispute because they say they only deal with disputes raised with Ebay, which seems a bit odd! Before I respond to them it would be interesting to know if they are dealing with your complaint now?

Hi

We purchased items early April worth £95 on sobaby.co.uk, but only received 1/3 of our order. The name that shows up on our credit card statement is "Great Imagination".
The people behind this really know how to exploit the system.

Have contacted trading standards and watchdog, but so far, no action.

No response from So Baby. We thought that they took our money via PayPal, but the E-mail they sent us is from a "Secure" Payment Gateway company that displays the Paypal logo along side Visa and Mastercard Verified, but has less favourable terms for the customer. They state on their website that

"PayPoint.net is the authorised payment provider for the site you made a purchase from and not the owner of the site. PayPoint.net cannot authorise refunds nor stop transactions once authorised by the bank. Refunds, however, can be authorised by the merchant you have purchased from. Please contact the merchant directly who will be happy to deal with your query."

So, secure for the retailer, but not the consumer. I do not expect we will succeed via PayPoint, so I am going through my credit card.

Does anyone know if PayPoint is part of PayPal or have SoBaby found another way to riggle out of the pressure.

Does anyone know if their shop in Andover still opens up?

babywaby · 07/05/2009 06:43

HI all...

Does anyone fancy driving to her shop for a refund ? we could all get together as she is stealing from us all - she has to be stopped

What do you think do aa route planner your postcode and hers ... its 2hrs for me but its the principle she is still ignoring calls and emails and still is runnung a business how is this happening still so many have reported this but is anything getting done ?????

elsmore1 · 07/05/2009 08:53

Me and my wife thought of driving to her shop as we are no more than an hour but realised she would probably give us some lies and stalling tactics so I am just going to send letters and small claims form if needed. Maybe go along and call the local paper too that would be good I am up for that.
