Ciao, hello, welcome!

OP posts:

Ouch!

Brangelina · 25/03/2009 14:16

Nooo, not round the bottom bit, on the other side, perhaps with a mini board thing, so you can chop strawberries whilst having your bum vibrated.

francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2009 14:18

Shock Grin

Brangelina · 25/03/2009 14:21

I really should be doing some work but I so can't be bothered.

francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2009 14:23

What can I do for my arm? It hurts and can't stretch it. My shoulder is starting to hurt as well, as I'm keeping the arm in a funny postion

Penthesileia · 25/03/2009 14:32

franca - how sore is sore? Is it worse than pain you've had before, e.g. more than your usual workout pains? If you've done a heavy workout, you ache because you make lots of micro-tears in the muscles, which then heal, which is how you build muscle mass (I think). If, however, this feels worse than that, you may have damaged your rotator cuff (the fact that your shoulder hurts too leads me to wonder about that). You should probably see a doctor, because you don't want to make it worse!

Penthesileia · 25/03/2009 14:33

In the meantime, if you can bear it, although it may be too late, you should put some ice on it to reduce any swelling. Wrap some ice in a kitchen towel or something and hold it against the sore parts.

Poor you!

Rosa · 25/03/2009 14:33

Try some of that fastum gel stuff - that should help a bit or try putting a hot water bottle on or a sacco di grano anything warm! Arnica is good for bruising.
LOL at the bum wobbler strawberry chopper. I have the miracle blade it was a joke with dh and I and I got it for Christmas one year - The blades are a bit spotty now and I only ever use the small knives the big ones are useless and you can't chop a can in half - we tried one drunken night !
I want to e bay stuff and I need dh for the text as my Italian is so crappio needless to say I say again and again but he always says fra 10 minute .. MInirosa awake ...

francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2009 14:34

One arm is sore - normal work out sore, the other is very sore and I can't stretch it, unless I stretch it by pulling it with my other hand, iyswim... I think it's way too sore. I see how it feels tomorrow and ring the docs. Thanks penthe

Penthesileia · 25/03/2009 14:36

Sorry - just read this happened on Monday, so RICE treatment a bit late, maybe (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation).

Penthesileia · 25/03/2009 14:38

Hmmm - sounds like you've torn a muscle.

francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2009 14:40

Oh god . So what do I do now? I thought the weights (I concentrated on arms exercises on monday) were too heavy for someone who hasn't trained for yrs!

Rosa · 25/03/2009 14:46

Erm yes ignore what I said then as I thought it was just simple stiffness but it does sound a bit more in depth especially if you can't straighten it on your own.
Minirosa went back to sleep !

Penthesileia · 25/03/2009 14:47

You need to rest it, basically - 3 weeks without activity, I think.

I do think, though, that the fact your shoulder hurts is significant. Can you lift your arm above your head? Can you life your arm up and to your side? Were you doing repeated lifts of the weights about your head? Tendinitis is another possibility.

One shouldn't self-diagnose on Google , but does any of this seem familiar?

Penthesileia · 25/03/2009 14:48

lift & tendonitis!

Brangelina · 25/03/2009 14:51

Franca, if it hurts 2 days later it just means you were less fit than you could have been. It ill probably pass in the next couple of days. If it persists and you can't lift your arm (as in it's not just uncomfortable but really painful and you don't have movement or it is quite swollen) you have damage. Tbh, unless you did really jerky movements then with 2kg weights it is unlikely you have done serious damage.

In the meantime keep the muscle warm, try and move it gently unless impossible as above and it should slowly pass. Next time you go to the gym remember to stretch after every exercise, it really does make a difference. Also, do everything super slowly and super in control.

francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2009 14:51

I'm now addicted to that website

I can deffo lift it over my head etc, just can't bend it (the area around the elbow is where it hurts).

Have just applied some voltaren gel. And I'll rest it... I was dreaming of Jennifer Aniston arms for the summer

Brangelina · 25/03/2009 14:52

Yes, what exercise were you doing?

Brangelina · 25/03/2009 14:53

Was it triceps where you have your arm above your head and bend up and down behind your head?

francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2009 14:53

Brange . I was also lifting 15 kg with those bloody machine. They felt like 50 kg, to be honest. Gosh I am so unfit.

Penthesileia · 25/03/2009 14:54

Ahh, well maybe not so serious then.

Yeah, you have to really stretch out before and after your workout. If's a big bore, but really necessary. I used to do a lot of sport at uni, and if I didn't stretch properly, I'd be in agony afterwards.

Brangelina · 25/03/2009 14:54

You were lifting 15kg with your arms? blimey!

francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2009 14:55

That one yes (which I was ok with) plus 2 or 3 others, the one where you have to push down the sbarra keeping your elbow firm? makes sense?

francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2009 14:57

I'm pathetic!

Penthesileia · 25/03/2009 14:58

No idea which machine you're describing!

You're not pathetic!
