Ciao, hello, welcome!

OP posts:
beforesunrise · 23/03/2009 14:39

otoh, supposte are so much better than the horrid calpol esp for babies who won't take a spoon

gio71 · 23/03/2009 14:41

I love supposte, am such a convert. we have an aerosol which havent used since ds was tiny and last time I looked is all coated in the lovely calcium from the Roman water. Need to sort it actually as they are so effing expensive

beforesunrise · 23/03/2009 14:44

i get paracetamol supposte from the gp. they always look at me slightly suspiciously, as though i was some kind of pervert... but they make so much more sense!!!

gio71 · 23/03/2009 14:46

lol at bs being a pervert for use of supposte. soooo English. We don't do bottoms doncha know -remember the bidet discussions).

Bucharest · 23/03/2009 14:48

BeforeSunrise....eeek! Is my cover blown then? Will I have to kill you now?

gio71 · 23/03/2009 14:49

am starting to believe in colpo d'aria. ds has no other symptoms bar fever and spent saturday in a windy play park on top of the hill we live on with no hat on! Guilty Mamma emotcion....

gio71 · 23/03/2009 14:49

no hat OR scarf and a light jacket when all other kiddies were still dressed in their winter gear

gio71 · 23/03/2009 14:51

and then I marched him around Rome in his buggy for hours while I went to treat myself in Coin as I saved a few euros on my budget this week - so of course had to spend said savings immediately

beforesunrise · 23/03/2009 14:53

Bucharest · 23/03/2009 14:59

Does your surname link us?

aupairinitaly · 23/03/2009 15:09

Hello Brangelina and Francagoestohollywood any luck on asking around?
I have got a few replies from the aupairworld and I tried a few other sites, but they were very confusing!!

To anyone else who missed my plea, see my original message on page 8 of this thread!

beforesunrise · 23/03/2009 15:09

you got it Bucharest

sorry, i hope you don't mind. i am actually happy to have found you as i missed you...

ok, end of stalking, and i promise i won't out you!

Bucharest · 23/03/2009 15:12

Aupair- I have a friend who is looking for someone...I haven't seen her for about a month, but she was asking me to try and find her someone for a month or so to help take care of her daughter (4) and mainly to speak English to her (she's obsessed that this wee girl should speak English)

I'll give her a call this week and see if she's still looking.

francagoestohollywood · 23/03/2009 15:29

Lol Gio, he wasn't wearing a scarf ??? . Today dd walked home from nursery school without her jacket...
Seriously though, I think there are still lots of bugs around, and March (marzo pazzerello vedi il sole prendi l'ombrello ) is a tricky month, what with all those sbalzi di temperatura!

Aupair, not much luck, I'm afraid, as those friends I asked would love an aupair for the summer, but don't have enough space in their tiny milanese flats .

francagoestohollywood · 23/03/2009 15:32

Aupair, I was also thinking, if you speak a bit of Italian, would it be worth contacting those places that need volunteer to run their summer camps with children, like the wwf or centri rousseau.

Actually, I'm so looking forward to sending ds to centri rousseau as soon as he feels ready to give it a try!

Bucharest · 23/03/2009 16:17

BeforeSunrise- I still post over there, but it's a bit of a graveyard tbh....people drop in to ask about how to get a ppt or how to find a gynae....but there's no real conversation.....

So I'm almost emigrated totally over here....although I dabble in the new side "over there"

Sputnik · 23/03/2009 16:46

Tut tut Gio it was freezing on saturday and bloody windy, even I found it cold so if anyone were ever to get a colpo d'aria then it would've been then. Plus you have to factor in the cambio di stagione .

We huddled in the indoor part of this party we went to, no bouncy castles unfortunatly. And DS screamed solidly for at least 1/2 an hour til we pulled out the supposte, I think it was his ears.

Personally I love both supposte and aerosols, I have been doing aerosols on myself in fact. Still feeling crap though (which is why I haven't posted much recently), I might have to actually go to the doctor......

We don't do mother's day here either, or valentines etc and it doesn't bother me, but I would appreciate a bit of recognition for the relentless task of mothering, I really should push for a bit of time to myself as it really doesn't seem to occur to DH, though he does help out and let me have the occasional lie in etc. And he is off again next week for another week away. Not looking forward to that.

Anyway, I was just looking at this exhibition I would like to go to, then I saw there was a percorso bambini, and DD might like it, so I have scuppered my own plans of child freedom already!

francagoestohollywood · 23/03/2009 16:55

Oh wow, sputnik, the exhibition looks really interesting. And I found that they've become really good with "percorsi per bambini" or laboratori per bambini with these exhibitions. We were really impressed by the visita guidata for the children at the exhibition of corrierino dei piccoli. Sometimes (rarely ) it can feel that Italy is really part of Europe

Oh supposte. Mine haven't got used to them, because we were in the UK, but I think they are fab for little ones, or when you have an upset stomach. I remember that once me, Brange, viggo and pippi descended in full force on a thread re supposte

aupairinitaly · 23/03/2009 17:00

thanks Bucharest. I'm off out now, but will check back in later. I will also lurk over the next couple of days
Hi Franca, thanks for the links, I will have a browse. My Italian is basic, but I'm having lessons. Can understand more than I can speak!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 23/03/2009 17:03

never use supposte on DCs here, though it might have been better as it's a nightmare to get DS to take anything...

Sputnik - that looks really nice, I'd love to have the time (e voglia!!) to take DS to museums... but I think it'll have to be with s.one else or he might get too bored... Hope you feel better soon!

OP posts:
gio71 · 23/03/2009 17:03

Oh dear Sputnik, you've not been well for a while have you.
ds's temp on its way back up again and if I have 1 more phone call from well meaning friends/relatives telling me to take temp at 7pm as its an important hour for temp measuring I will scream!

Sputnik · 23/03/2009 17:13

Poor DS Gio. And poor Pippi's DD with the measles

We have had cold after cold here, not serious but just never ending, and my sinuses are now totally wrecked. DH reckons it's because our house is too cold and I'm beginning to wonder if he's right after all. It's usually about 16°, it was a bit less in the day when it was colder. Thing is our house costs a fortune to heat and I am mean. Anyway, is that too cold?

Forgot to say I met up with Delgirl a couple of times last week, we even managed a civilised childfree coffee! She has got herself a small flat, and her DD is enjoying the scuola materna.

francagoestohollywood · 23/03/2009 17:18

So glad to hear delgirl is having a nice time in Italy and that you managed to meet up. How's your little girl btw sputnik, does she like her scuola a bit better?

16 degrees would be too cold for me, I'm afraid. But then, as you know, I'm a wimp ...

francagoestohollywood · 23/03/2009 17:19

Oh gio, forgot to say, that of course! between 6 and 7 is the time when temp creeps up. Tis another italian belief (which I trust of course )

Sputnik · 23/03/2009 17:32

Actually DH's doctor told him an "evening" temperature is a sign of virus. Or possibly bacterial infection, I can't remember anymore.

16° is too cold for me too really, but as I said, I am mean. Question is, is it making us sick? One advantage of our new house should be that we'll be much warmer.

We're still waiting on our bloody mortgage though. I think the stress of house buying/moving is not helping my state of health either.
