Ciao, hello, welcome!

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 22/03/2009 22:08

Pippi, have just realized that dd2 has measles ? Poor poor wee thing. How is she doing? Is it mild, do you think?

ANd hello BS, glad to see you back!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 22/03/2009 22:14

hi franca, a bit of your origliare at the posh torinesi !

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 22/03/2009 22:19

Don't be . They take themselves so seriously . And they are so contegnosi and ragionevoli, even when talking about how much they pay their nanny (read domestica, really). They pay her more, apparently, as she works also over weekends (and yes, a bit of too, but don't tell anyone!)

Mind you, I love Torino and all the writers/intellectuals of the 1930s/40s/50s based there etc, I wonder if they were so "stiff"?

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 22/03/2009 22:27

I'm of domestica too, but I meant more of the fact you were there with slittino .... I'd love to go down a snowy hill on my bum , like I was of the children at the birthday party today, as I'd loved to have climbed those frames and thrown myself in the balls pool !!! am I going insane?!?!

OP posts:
SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 22/03/2009 22:27

OMG! sorry about all those faces!!

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 22/03/2009 22:34

Are you trying to steal all my faces ? !

Oh the slittino is fab, I agree . And the weather was magnificent (gira il coltello nella piaga emoticon)

But I read you had a lovely day too, your ds is so sweet And I'm a bit of Nando's!!!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 22/03/2009 22:46

yes, he was really sweet, and after I covered him in kisses and hugged him tight, he had the cheak to say (after about 3 hours) "mummy, say thank you to me for your lovely present"! the cheaky...

stock up on nando's peri peri sauces when you come over!

hows the measles Damon? Sorry to hear your Mothers day was a let down. I have come to conclusion that I need to tell dp to do EVERYTHING because he would happily live in chaos and not ever realise it. The only real rules we have are that I cook and he does dishwasher and cleans kitchen every evening (although not to my liking!). I had to drag him back into kitchen the other day as it looked someone had vomited in the sink although dishwasher was done so he felt as if duty was discharged! Makes me seeth with resentment!
DS has had a temp since yesterday, had awful night and is clinging onto me now. Doesnt seem to have any other symptons-boh!So tell me ladies-is it possible to get una febbre from troppo aria?DP is convinced that is down to that as there has been a real cold wind here for a few days now.I have always dismissed this but maybe I should open my mind and stop being so "bloody anglo saxon" (dp's words)

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 23/03/2009 09:19

well sunflower you made me cry. that's exactly what I wanted/though I was going to get. in fact dd1 did not even know it was a special day. I'm sorry but I cannot help being really sad and f*ed off about all this.he did sincerely apologise this morning but as the prob is not about forgetting mother's day but forgetting all the other 364 days how much one does, I don't feel that much better.
I'm not going to go on about this anymore 'cos is boring. obviously dh is great in many ways but on the 'appreciation' front he lacks a bit and it never gets resolved and keeps coming back.

dd's rush is not so bad this morning but she's still off her food and went back to bed really early. poor soul. looks like mild to me franca, boh.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 23/03/2009 09:22

gio I think you only get that type of temp in italy [wnk]. all my italian friends' children get it. never heard anybody in the uk. mine rarely have temp only for a 'reason' like in dd2 case. I think they get dressed too much, but we've been here before .
poor ds though and you. it;s hard with a clingy child, isn't it?

Penthesileia · 23/03/2009 09:26

Ohmigod gio!!! My DH is OBSESSED with the idea that DD will catch a cold if she gets too much cold air!!! It drives me crazy! She has to be bundled up all the time. I too am v. Anglo-Saxon on this one!

Pippi - you're not boring anyone. I'm sorry you're still feeling low. Do talk about it if you want to. Glad DD2 seems to have a mild case.

gio71 · 23/03/2009 09:38

no of course you're not boring anyone Pippi. Let off steam all you want! It is so frustrating to be felt like you are being taken for granted constantly.
DS now asleep on sofa so I suppose I should move my arse and tidy up a bit, always give myself Mon morn off work to clean house and do shopping. BUT had so little sleep last night that all i want to do is lay on sofa with ds and watch my West Wing box sets which am rewatching from the start again-bliss! And can't take ds out shopping obviously (temp, aria etc etc)so ........

Bucharest · 23/03/2009 09:42

I think it's an inherently Italian illness, the whole colpo d'aria thing.
Us northerners obviously made of sterner stuff. The only thing a colpo d'aria might give you is a stiff neck.

Everyone here horrified and aghast at me, that I only bought my first ever thermometer when dd was about 10 weeks old and then didn't know where it went or what "normal" was. The kids at school were always "oh I wasn't here yesterday because I had 38 febbre" and I'd be WTF are they talking about?

My best friend here goes running to the pediatra if kiddo goes above 36.5 even by 1 tenth of a degree. But doesn't use a thermometer because apparently, if her dd has hiccups, she's got a febbre.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 23/03/2009 09:53

My italian friend was super shocked and told me off for not ever using a hairdryer and condemned me to a 'cervicale' (please can you offer translation? this might be another illness that only exists in italy)!

I'm very spartana with my children, maybe is lazyness, but sits well with living in this country.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 23/03/2009 10:10

oh, pippi, didn't mean to upset you! you'll get the same next year with DD1 at school, that's a good thing about school!! it cost me £1 in material (cheapest wooden ikea frame) but the fact that he remembered was so lovely, the teacher has been really drilling the MD thing in their head!! maybe because it was her first MD...

and go on, spill it out! you won't bore us!! moan away!

and yes, the colpo d'aria must be an italian thing, every time I mention DS has a bit of febbre, mum says he probably got a colpo d'aria! saying that, I'm always overdressing them, as I think I can take off layers if hot.

uffa, was going to say say s.thing else and now I've forgotten (it seems to happen so often lately!) got to go, DD's awake

OP posts:
Bucharest · 23/03/2009 12:09

I think the cervicale is a stiff neck- all my friends get it if they sit near an open window.
My American friend wasn't allowed to leave the swimming pool with her little boy until she'd used the hairdryer. (that's another thing I don't possess.) (evil mummy emoticon) Dd always has lots of fun in the ludoteca though, using it. (to the refrain of all the mummies screaming "non sudare!!!!! o mamma, sei tutto sudato!!!!!!!"

Rosa · 23/03/2009 12:51

Oh god here as well ...
Tummy ache / and runny bottom - Colpo di Aria
Febbre with no other symptoms - colpo di aria
Any form of aching joint- colpo di aria
Headache - colpo di aria
Seguito da ...Hai chiamato il dottore ????
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Mind you the doc is good at saying its a virus ( when it is ) now so SIL and MIl are getting used to that.
Having said that dh has backache and has the runs ....He said colpo di aria probably !
I admit I am a bit of a temp freak - in the sense that when dd1 is a bit hot headed so its hard to say until you strip her off and feel the rest of her body. WHen she starts to go a bit flat and tiredness not an excuse I do tend to take it just to prepare for the next installment of whatever is coming along.
Franca sorry that you diddn't get to ski - hope it wasn't too cold . Its coolish here today wierd weather butthey say its getting worse towards teh end of teh weeek - oh how british am I talking about the eather ??
Have we lost Sputnik to Moda Casa?

gio71 · 23/03/2009 13:25

yes I have had dp and fil on phone on and off all morning wanting to know temp (he is sleeping leave him in PEACE) and why havent called doc (COS NOT IN TIL THE PM_ GO AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Anyway is now awake, temp gone down a bit and seems bit chirpier. Rosa my dp goes mad if I say ds has a virus, I thought it was just one of his peculiarities- do viruses not go down too well in general as a diagnosis?
Have also become a bit of a temp convert must admit and tend to whip out the thermometer and tachipirina supposte as soon as passes 38 buch to ds's disgust.
Oh tell me I am justified doing no work this pm ladies. I feel guilty but I got next to no sleep and just want to cuddle ds on sofa! And mumsnet of course which I generally dont get chance to do. Oh and drink tea and eat biscuits, off to put kettle on

gio71 · 23/03/2009 13:26

buch??? "much" I think I meant

Rosa · 23/03/2009 13:54

Nope they don't like the word virus and they cannot accept that in most virus situations you have to wait until it takes its course and say treat the symptoms e.g tacchip when febbre , and you do not need antibiotics !!!
Now we say we have called the doc when we havent just for peace ... I call when febbre has gone on for 3 - 4 days and dds not getting better or there are symptoms that I can't sort out !
I must go and do something as dd went to bed early as tired from nursery and so will wake early and I haven't done a thing - exp look for clothes for me for dd battesimo as the way I am going I am not going to have time to find a thing

Rosa · 23/03/2009 14:09

A virus is an excuse used by doctors when they don't know what the actual illness is .As all symptoms = a specific illness!! And This I quote ....you can guess who from.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 23/03/2009 14:11

lol Rosa!!

OP posts:
beforesunrise · 23/03/2009 14:32

hello everyone!! pippi i am sorry you are not feeling any better.

remind me how old your dds are? i have decided as soon as dd2 turns 2 i am leaving them with daddy for a week. ok, so i have 14 months to wait but the knowledge that I WILL do it keeps me sane. i think afterwards he will appreciate me...

lol lol lol at the colpo d'aria thing.... whenever my mother takes out dds in Rome she actually APOLOGISES to the people she meets for how underdressed they are... Sa, sono inglesi... and once i took them to a paediatrician in rome (dd1 had worms, ehm...) and i heard the doc tell a mother who had brought in a child with a cough (WTF??) that he had a "virosi". sounds sooo much scarier than saying it's just a virus isn't it? speaking of coughs, all my friends' babies and children spend the winter on aereosol and inhalers. they can't believe i don't own one!

ps [stalker alert] Bucharest is it possible that i know you from another forum?? do you live in A$$ end by any chance? something about the ludoteca and non sudare gives me a strong deja vu

francagoestohollywood · 23/03/2009 14:32

Oh Pippi, you are never boring, and you know that we like a good old moan on here

Of course the colpo d'aria esiste!
38 is deffo temperature at the franca's as we all feel like shite. I thoughtI was iper apprehensive, but I'm positively laid back compared to most of my friends. My dear friend was shocked as I didn't ring the paed when dd had varicella.

francagoestohollywood · 23/03/2009 14:34

Yes, my children have never had an aerosol, much to my friends'
