Invitation to mumsnet book launch

Hi there

For anyone out there who doesn't yet know, the first mumsnet book, "Mums On Babies", is due to be released on March 30th. Thanks to all of you for all your contributions - we certainly couldn't have done it without you and we really hope you like the book .

The publishers, cassell-illustrated, are having a party to launch the book and hopefully drum up some press interest and we wondered if some of you who allowed your contributions to be used might like to come along. The party is being held at The Sanctuary in Covent Garden, London on Tuesday April 8th from 7-9pm and we have 75 invites to give away to the first 75 contributors who email [email protected] and say they want to come. It should be a good evening, with drinks and canapes and the odd hand or neck massage thrown in. There will be a group press photo taken during the evening ("the book we wrote" etc.) and your acceptance of the invitation means that you consent to appear in the photo.

Apologies if some of you have had this invite by email already. We had lots of "bad" email addresses when we tried to send an invite out to all the book contributors, so we thought it was fairer if we let folks know via Talk.

Hope to see lots of you there.

Congrats on being authors and thanks again,

Carrie, Justine & Rachel

Does that mean if we got the email invite we're a contributor??

justiner · 27/03/2003 16:51

Hi SoupDragon,
In theory yes, if you got a mail, you're a contributer, although we have been advised of one mistake so far - someone got the mail who asked to and was excluded from the book - but hopefully that was an aberration!
Justine

Well, I've ordered my copy so I'll just have to wait and see! I'm faintly worried...

bea · 27/03/2003 19:39

hey does that mean, if i've never been contacted by mumsnet... i'm not in the book!???!!! surely my contributions to the thread 'The Buffsters Back!' is a noteworthy comment on the trials and tribulations of motherhood!!!

janh · 27/03/2003 20:25

Wish I lived in the SE and could just pop along! Hope you all have a great time...

Demented · 27/03/2003 21:59

Oooooh, I must be in the book then, probably moaning about something! Would have loved to have gone to the launch but it's a bit far to travel , have ordered my copy of the book today though and can't wait to receive it!

SoupDragon · 27/03/2003 22:03

I'm not going as I don't want to appear in a photo!! I'm happy to be anonymously famous (if I do indeed appear in the book at all).

tigermoth · 28/03/2003 09:46

soupdragon, if it's just the thought of the photo that's stopping you coming, I just wanted to say that at the mumsnet meetups I've been to, everyone is asked if they mind being in a photo -at least the 'official' ones that could appear in the press. You can say no if you want to.

tigermoth · 28/03/2003 09:48

I also just wanted to add, the longer I'm here the more I wish I could meet the non-londoners whose posts I've read for the last year or two - janh, demented, etc really sorry you won't be able to come to the launch party.

Unfortunately Tigermoth, the invite says "your acceptance of the invitation means that you consent to appear in the photo."

I could put on a wig, dark glasses and a false nose perhaps...

Alibubbles · 28/03/2003 11:16

Wish I could go, but I am off skiing for the week. Must get the book, dying to know what I've been quoted as saying!!

Have just got my Mumsnet on Babies book - can't wait till I get on the tube to go home so I can start to read it. Is it right that there is also one on pregnancy and birth?

PamT · 28/03/2003 13:14

I got the invitation e-mail so does that mean that some of my postings are in it? I'll have to go and buy a copy now. I asked for a name change so I wonder what I'm called?

Mo2 · 28/03/2003 13:41

I'm coming too! (SB34 - perhaps we can arrange to meet beforehand?)
For those worried about the photo aspect - think about how many photos you've seen of 75 people where you can even remotely identify who is who, and then imagine that reproduced in a grainy newsprint??
Or just bring a baseball hat & sunglasses !!

janh · 28/03/2003 14:05

Aw, thanks, tigermoth, I would love to meet you too (and lots of others!)

Can't wait to see the pics with half the guests in Groucho Marx type specs with nose and tache!

JoAnne427 · 28/03/2003 14:08

Got my invite! Yay! But I cannot really justify the trip from Connecticut, unfortunately. I hope you all have a wonderful time and I can't wait to see the book on The New York Times Bestseller List!

Now I've just got to figure out how I can get my hands on a copy...

bea · 28/03/2003 19:21

oh! i feel all left out now!!!!!!!!!

willow2 · 28/03/2003 19:46

Well I didn't get an invite even though the Annabel Karmel thread I started got mentioned in Junior magazine's review!

tigermoth · 28/03/2003 20:30

willow2, FYI think the invite by email method was abandoned before it was completed, hence the thread here. Posts of mine were in the book but I didn't get emailed an invitation.

willow2 · 28/03/2003 22:05

It's ok tigermoth - was just throwing a fake strop!
