Hi Hellfine - love the name!

I have been lurking on this board as new to the modelling game! I am thinking of joining AK, my LO is a baby, am I right in thinking yours is too? Did you have a mare trying to do the photos against a white background?!

JeanGrey · 02/10/2008 16:06

MOT said it would get busier near christmas for everyone's spring catalogue....

Totally, how long have you been with MOT?

JeanGrey · 02/10/2008 16:29

which are other agencies could i apply to that are not sole rep?

julie4travel · 02/10/2008 18:42

jeangray? possibly elliott brown, sandra reynolds in norwich are non sole rep

totallyfloaty35 · 02/10/2008 19:29

Been with mot for 2.5 months. Middle dd was with them a few years ago for about 15months but and she only had 1 straight job and 1 casting in that time. But they are multi agent so thought they were worth ago.We also with BK.

HellFireandDamnation · 02/10/2008 20:07

Totally - look I made a decision!!

Thanks all for the good wishes - told that Halloween stuff is comng up. Great - I hate Hallowe'en - think it American crap hate it. What's the betting that hi =s first job will be something for Halowe'en! Balls! Are we allowed to be stronger than that on this board?

How many times do people go to castings and not get the job???

Sequin1 - baby 9 months today. Well! I sent off the photos so long ago that it was before their new system (just launched tho) before that you could send any photos. Once accepted you had to do the white stuff. Not done it yet because he has a scratch on his face!!!

I like Kimberely - ES very professional big and ll that but AK still get Mothercare Toys R Us ec and have less babies on their books. They profess to have all their babies working (I hate that term!) but another mother on another board said that wasn't strictly true.

Make sure your shots are small enough to upload. Hope you get in and we both get a casting so I can chat to someone!!

Sequin1 · 02/10/2008 20:22

Hellfire - I took one today but my LO has a scratch on his nose and I sent it to my Sister in Law and she was able to erase it out with Photo Shop - not sure if you have this but it might do the trick! I still cant send the photo as is too blurry so gonna try again tomorrow. I spoke to Kimberley today and she sounds lovely really down to earth, we must keep each other posted on how we get on! Hopefully if I can get pics off tomorrow she said we can be live on the website by Monday, how exciting!

HellFireandDamnation · 02/10/2008 20:45

Sequin1 have you def been accepted or are you applying?

Sequin1 · 02/10/2008 20:53

Been accepted, you?

HellFireandDamnation · 02/10/2008 21:21

accepted - so hopefully see you on a shoot soon! If his scratch has gone! Wonder if photographers will bother to take out scratches or if we are meant to tell people when they've done that so they shouldn't go?! Anyone know?

HellFireandDamnation · 02/10/2008 21:23

AK not sole rep and one of the cheaper ones!

MelodyDaisy · 02/10/2008 21:30

Yes they are SOLE REP, but do get very regular work so should make no difference. Good Luck AK are doing extremely well for my lot

OP posts:
HellFireandDamnation · 02/10/2008 21:44

oh are they? sorry jeangrey my mistake!

Melody - hope to see you soon although is that likely with different ages? What have you had 'cos you've not been with them long have you?

HellFireandDamnation · 02/10/2008 21:45

How many castings turn out as jobs?

MelodyDaisy · 02/10/2008 23:09

Been with them 7 weeks and 3 days

DD-2 castings(Had to turn down 2 other castings)
DS2-1 job and one on Saturday
DS1- 14 castings
3/4 job (one one paid standby), he was pencilled(shortlisted as favourites) on a few of the castings too.

Sometimes they are trying to match families up. or looking for a child of certain height etc, so alot can depend on other factors and not just who was the best 'actor' or best looking so castings can go either way!

MelodyDaisy · 02/10/2008 23:18

We could end up on job together, or at same casting, you never know! The Toys R Us photoshoot DS1 did involved a few different ages from 2-10yrs!

We have not had a week off yet. Today he had a casting for a comedy show at 5pm and my DS1 and DD were doing a High School Musical Show at local small theatre at 7pm
We ran EVERYWHERE! Getting back to Euston to get train home to discover all the trains had been delayed due to a fatality earlier on, then one became available but it was rammed! We were wedged inbetween carriages up against the doors like you can be on a tube, it was horrendous! Anyway, after running and sweating off about 2000cals I managed to get him to the theatre in time
AK are keeping us very busy

jojosmaman · 02/10/2008 23:30

Hey, found the thread! Had a call today from UAN and ds has casting for mamas and papas on monday, first one ever. How long do these things usually last as I am going to have to sneak out of work!!?? Also, what should he wear, just normal clothes or is there a special protocol? Thanks!

totallyfloaty35 · 02/10/2008 23:46

castings can be very quick, put your child in something comfortable, plain and bright that photographs well.Although lots of older kids do go in school uniform.
Hellfire, well done on making a decision
BK are multiagent, they have a one off fee and you can supply your own pics, lots of kids on the books but quite nice to deal with.
As for how many jobs you get from castings its impossible to say, some kids never get any and some get every one.
Dont think the halloween stuff being done now,its too late. Most companies do stuff a few months in advance...except for M&S website when you can shoot it and be up within a week.
Goodluck to everyone with jobs/castings

geminimummy · 03/10/2008 10:55

Hello, im a new one to all of this, I have just sent my son's photos off to London Kids. Has any one dealt with them before?

julie4travel · 03/10/2008 11:15

melody - you have nearly caught up with us for castings that we have had the whole year! honestly

altin - fingers crossed for good news soon

jojosmaman - good luck for your first casting, thats great so soon after joining uan. every casting is totally different, sometimes youc an be in and out sometimes it could be over an hour wait. is the casting manchester way as its from the northern edition?

jojosmaman · 03/10/2008 11:41

Julie- Thanks, yes the casting is in Manchester so not too far for me, only a 10min drive from work so hopefully if we are seen quickly I can sneak back in work unnoticed! If he gets picked then the shoot is in Huddersfield which is a bit further but not too bad.

Melody- Thanks for info, will raid his wardrobe over the weekend!

My only concern is that he may be tired as dp will pick him up from nursery right at his normal nap time and then go straight there so unless he has a power nap in the car he might be a grumpy bum!

Gemini- Sorry I am v new to this too so can't help but someone will be along soon I'm sure

liahgen · 03/10/2008 11:42

a little tip for castings all from an oldie

I always put my kids in something that will make the casting people remember them, ie a cheeky slogan top

Gives them something to laugh about with the child aswell if they are old enough. x

jojosmaman · 03/10/2008 11:52

Liaghen, giving away all your tips to us newbies!! Thanks for that, great idea. As he is coming from nursery I am going to have to bring a change of clothes in case he is mucky as once i picked him up from nursery and he was wearing a pink pair of girls velour tracksuit bottoms with "princess" in diamante on the bum as he had made a mess of his trousers and spares (he was only 12months though)! Now if that happened again, they would certainly remember him if he turned up in those!!

MelodyDaisy · 03/10/2008 12:27

My DS2 has a cracking Mr Men T-shirt which says "my dad is Mr Lazy" so could get him to wear it to his casting tomorrow, yet they may just be too drawn to that rather than him then!! lol

Lolly68 · 03/10/2008 13:22
