In ASDA this afternoon with my 6 year old ds. As I walked down a particular aisle there was another mum with a small child who was screaming about something. The member of staff rather loudly grunted 'When do they go back to school'

Ds and I stoped to look at packed lunch boxes and stuff - the department this woman was shelf stacking. As we were looking ds was asking countless random questions as only 6 year old can and I was answering. She kept leaning accross us to stack which annoyed me. Then as were were walking off she grunted 'For Gods sake just go away'

It was clearly at us there was noone else on the asile at teh time.

I was so cross I challenged her saying 'was that comment directed at my son and I?'

To which she said 'No, I was talking to a fly'

I asked for the manager but he was in a meeting so he is calling me.

I am very very cross. And that is not like me.

I've skimmed the thread and I think Northerner is right. That woman is paid, in part to give good customer service. If she doesn't enjoy her job that's her problem. Bad customer service is a pet hate of mine, though - nothing annoys me more than people trying to close shops at 5.20 because they can't wait to get home....grrrrr

You weren't explaining things in that highly irritating way some mothers have in supermarkets were you Dr No?

It's just sometimes you hear mothers saying things unnecessarily loudly, as if to say "Here what a picture of maternal devotion I am, I can explain really tedious things without losing patience or screaming." and you realise that you are the intended audience rather than the toddler.

I often have the urge to say "Oh do go away" to women like that. It's irritating. Please tell me you weren't doing that overloud trilling thing, then I'll join in and castigate the Asda employee.

I had some trouble with one of the counter staff in HSBC. Sent a letter to the manager, she phoned me and asked if I could come in to discuss it - I said no, I'm on maternity leave and the size of a house, so she dealt with it over the phone. Everyone was happy.

Phone him back and tell him you want him to talk to you about it over the phone.

"well...she tried to stock teh shelfs and you probably were in her way...."

sorry that's daft. Customers are not "in the way" - customers are the source of revenue for the store hence can't possibly be "in the way" when they are looking at goods which they will potentially buy

well...but....if dr northerner and her delightful sprog maybe went on and on about the pros and cons of each and every single one of lunchboxes on display.....well..she might just had had enough
especially if she was having a bad day....

rofl at fio....well, there is a thought.....

nailpolish · 01/09/2008 19:28

zippi why are you slagging off asda? thats childish

and i think northerner is right. imagine if you were in visiting your sick mother and i told you "for god sake just go away" wouldnt you report me to the ward sister? or would you think "oh poor nurse shes had a shit day" and let it go

no you bloody wouldnt

i wouldnt imagine nrotherern wants the woman sacked she just wants to know the woman has been spoken to about her conduct to customers.

3andnomore · 01/09/2008 19:29

nailpolish...I don't think you can compare the 2.....

nailpolish · 01/09/2008 19:30

whyever not?

3andnomore · 01/09/2008 19:34

because people visiting in a Hospital and also the patients are vulnurable.....that is the main difference....

3andnomore · 01/09/2008 19:35

the worker op was talking about is a poor shelfstacker....

SaintGeorge · 01/09/2008 19:44

It doesn't matter what job she was doing. If she was working on the shop floor then she must be prepared to face customers.

I do mystery shops for Asda.

I have to find random members of staff to baffle with stupid queries. They all have to be very polite or else they get bad marks.

Asda's rules, not mine.

And to make doubly sure they know which member of staff I have dealt with, I have to report their name and full description so they must get pulled up about it afterwards.

zippitippitoes · 01/09/2008 19:46

i dont think i did slag off asda

drn said would i continue spendign 100 quid a week in the store

to which i replied

"well i dont know ive only been in asda a few times just to lok at clothes which actually look a bit rubbish"

and that is my opinion from a few times ive looked

and i just looked on their website and randomly these are the tops

here

it must be the mildest ever slagging of anything on mn

nickytwotimes · 01/09/2008 19:46

SaintGeorge, you must be so proud.
In response to the op, I'd be pretty pissed off too.

SaintGeorge · 01/09/2008 19:48

Not quite sure what you are trying to imply nicky.

to you too.

Carmenere · 01/09/2008 19:49

I like the burgundy top

donnie · 01/09/2008 19:52

actually I like that petrol blue one for twelve quid.

nailpolish · 01/09/2008 19:54

i do shopping for a family of 4 every week in asda and i spend 80 quid

would be very easy to spend 100

and just cos she is a shelfstacker, does that make it ok to be rude?

nailpolish · 01/09/2008 19:55

zippi you were laughing at spending £100 in asda

as if to say

how can you spend £100 there its cheap shit

solidgoldbrass · 01/09/2008 19:56

St George, I do mystery shops at Asda too. And in the bit where they ask 'what one thing would have enhanced your shopping experience?' I always write 'Knowing that Asda-Walmart actually pay their staff a living wage and allow unions' or something similar. Companies that make that much a deal out of customer care might get more of it happening if they engaged in a bit of staff care as opposed to both exploiting them and insulting their intelligence.

nailpolish · 01/09/2008 19:57

i heard ages ago that asda was voted best employer in the uk...

squeaver · 01/09/2008 19:58

What is it with these supermarket threads?? They just never end.
