Hi. Just wanted to say that my DS1 has a casting on Monday already and only went to see AK 2 weeks ago!!

Anyone else got castings/jobs coming up?

She's almost 9 months old. went to see MOT Junior last week and they are keen to take her on. There are no joining fees either. I was keen on KK too but there is a fee - its not too bad - £100 one off registration fee. Just worried about the sole rep thing that's all. Very new to all this and don't much about the industry other than what I've read on the net.

MelodyDaisy · 25/08/2008 23:22

There shouldn't really be any concern going with a sole rep agency if you find a good one. BB, MOT, KL, AK, R, etc etc.

I do know from other post's on here that MOT don't charge though and are quite well regarded within the industry.

The £100 KK are charging is not bad at all, infact the majority are around this figure and some can be as high as £300!!

Look at both the agencie's, decided which one you think will give you what you need, or how you feel about them, just DON'T rush into anything if you are not sure. wink

bk do get work, tends to be lots of tv/film and they pretty good for older kids. When my dd did debenhams she met 2 kids from bk who work pretty much every week.
Mot is good agent, they do a lot more photographic so you can go with both to cover both sides. However with a very young baby they dont tend to do much tv/film work, its usually 3upwards.

JeanGrey · 26/08/2008 00:42

Thanks MelodyDaisy,

I think I'll keep my options open and go see KK and see what they're all about. I might decide I like them better than MOT although MOT seems to be the one which is better known. I have noticed that KK doesn't appear on the reputable list on albamodel website though which is another worry....decisions, decisions. Has anyone been for a test shoot at KK? Will I have to pay even though I'm not sure if I'll sign dd with them?

brooke77 · 26/08/2008 08:03

JeanGrey.. i'd check with KK to see if you will need to pay something.. i sent a cheque for half the amount to hold ds's place and paid half after the shoot.. but we had already decided we would go with them before the shoot. Personally, I reckon MOT is your best bet with such a young one.. they are a very good agency and have a very low amount of children on their books.. very difficult to get accepted by them at the toddler age too, whereas easier with some agencies. My ds is with KK but he is 12 and very academic so we were after a very different and easygoing agent for him. My dd is a toddler and with Rascals and has done pretty well but when I was looking around for an agent for her a lot told me they dont take on children around 18 months/2 years and to be in touch when she is 3. I think 9 months is a good age to have the opportunity to get on the books of a really good agent.
Good luck !!
And good luck to all waiting on the dora casting !

Jean I would 100% go with mot over the others mentioned they are one of the top agencies.

bogie · 26/08/2008 15:26

birdinatent yeah try boss ds has worked with children from boss so they do get work.

JeanGrey · 26/08/2008 17:07

Thanks Bogie,

Its been so hard deciding. Still haven't made up my mind fully yet but its definitely between MOT and KK.

bogie · 26/08/2008 18:13

KK are very new on the scene

JeanGrey · 26/08/2008 20:12

I know. It seems that they're not that selective about who they take on either. But i suppose that could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. Having said that I have read nothing bad about KK. Has anyone on here had any bad experience with them?

julie4travel · 26/08/2008 21:31

jeangray - mot is non sole rep isnt it? they dont take on all the children that apply so well done to your dd. for me a no fee agency is superb, they regulary get work like toyrs r us, i think mothercare and elc. as she is very little why not give her a go with them and if she doesnt like it no loss as you havent paid out anything. i think they have been going years therefore would get regular clients etc. i would prefer a longer established agent if i was given a choice.
good luck in your decisions

MelodyDaisy · 26/08/2008 23:08

I agree with julie4travel- would seem the best route to take right now and not have to pay out any cost's

Julie4travel-Good luck tomorrow and Friday for your DS

MelodyDaisy · 26/08/2008 23:10

Tomorrow and Thursday I meant! pmsl This is how tired all this running round in London is making me that I am forgetting my day's!!

ichef-How did your DD's first UK casting go today?

OP posts:
totallyfloaty35 · 27/08/2008 00:14

dd has casting tomorrow

JeanGrey · 27/08/2008 08:40

Thanks for all your advice guys. I have decided that MOT is the best route. I will let you all know how dd gets on. Feel so much better that I've made the decision.

MelodyDaisy · 27/08/2008 09:47

tf35- Yay, what's it for? Is your dd looking forward to it? You must let us all know how you get on x

Has anyone heard on the Dora casting?

OP posts:
LilRedWG · 27/08/2008 10:43

DD has been accepted by BK, but DH is dragging his feet about fees (actually he said, no way ) but I may talk him round.

Anyone know if they are any good at securing toddler work?

liahgen · 27/08/2008 10:45

no experience of bk i'm afraid Lilred, my friends dc's are with them, have been for a year, and are doing well. Easily made back their fees.

No news from Dora, so assuming it's a no.

LilRedWG · 27/08/2008 10:47

about Dora for you.

Thanks for the info on BK. Making the fees back is key to persuading DH atm as we are skint.

liahgen · 27/08/2008 10:49

well, they made theirs back in a couple of jobs. Her ds, (3) was called back to elc 8 times, at £50 an hour, probably did 16 hours.

Will that persuade him

LilRedWG · 27/08/2008 10:52

Hopefully

MelodyDaisy · 27/08/2008 10:59

LilRedWG-Have you tried some other agencies as well?

Most child agencie's will have a fee, but should make the money back if you even get one job!

liahgen- I would have liked it to be have been someone from these boards for Dora, would have assumed a yes would have been given by now though

OP posts:
dastadlyandmutley · 27/08/2008 11:47

Lilred: My DS was with BK between the ages of 4months and 4 years and in that time had 1 casting so we never made our money back. I was a bit silly really as I signed him up with them as they responded first, in hindsight I should have waited for all the agencies we applied to to respond as he was accepted by B&B, KL and ES as soon as BK banked the cheque but at the time I was a little bit green as to what to do!Hey ho! Good luck in whatever you decide to do, I think BK are a bit like marmite.....
