New thread open for reports on local wildlife, the weather, gardening and domestic chores. Plus the never ending hunt for HBFs who stubbornly fail to materialise.

Afternoon. Cloudy day, but the sun’s come out now. I don’t know where the day’s gone, I’ve been a bit engrossed with the jumper. I’ve done 4 motifs and reduced the time for each one to 45 minutes. Smile

Awww at Slinky.

Hope illing and aching wenches are feeling better.

Have a good evening all.

LetUsPrey · 04/05/2026 18:47

Evening wenches.

Sounds similar to what we’ve had here Apricot. Sunny now. You’ll be sub-30 minutes by the time you finish the motifs!

Slinky obviously really wants to be your friend Helen.

Went back to bed again this morning. Felt better as the day’s gone on, did bath’n’book, and I’m sure I’ll be tickety boo for tomorrow.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 04/05/2026 20:07

Evening all - same weather here - cloud all day but no rain. Lots of gardening again today. More stinging nettle decimation (and tingly wrists), and potting on.

Slinky's idea of affection is more 'Ooooww!' then 'Awww', or when she's playing it is. This morning involved savlon and a plaster. Hmm

Excellent work on the jumper Apricot. That's typical LetUs - feeling better just in time to get back to work. FFS and all that. Though at least you're getting better.

Being May 4th, DS has us watching Star Wars - not sure what this film's called - it's the one with baby Anakin winning a pod race.

LetUsPrey · 05/05/2026 06:58

Morning wenches.

I think that!s the first one of the “new” ones isn’t it? Can’t remember what it’s called either, just remember that that level with the pod race took ages to get through on the Lego Wii game 😁

Yes typically weekend’s been a bit hampered by feeling crappy but well enough now for back to work.

<passes dock leaves to Helen>

Have lovely days wenches.

ApricotCrush · 05/05/2026 17:04

Afternoon. Sun this morning, but it disappeared by lunchtime. I did a food shop, some local jobs and then did a lap of the road. A bungalow that I didn’t know was for sale has a sold sign on it, so I must look that up on Rightmove because I’m nosy.

I’ve been continuing with the jumper but I got over-confident and didn’t follow the chart I’ve made so of course I went wrong and had to undo a chunk of it. Hmm

Hope everyone’s day has been good to them.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 05/05/2026 18:30

Oh look - I forgot to post anything this morning. Not a surprise really since I was running a bit late, then add kitten-related disruptions into the mix... I chivvied DS out the door anyway and said he'd just have to sit and wait for the next bus (doooom! The world has ended etc!). Then the travel news came on - his usual bus would get his stuck in breakdown-related traffic hell. Then the route to the alternative bus had a road closure, so by the time I got him to the bus and back I was straight into an exercise class and then home for work. <wilts>

Last night's Star Wars was the first of the newer trilogy. The one where Liam Neeson needs lessons in medical consent, and how you don't just siphon off blood from small children to test them for special jedi-ness. (To be fair, I wasn't paying 100% attention, and he may have asked the mother first - he certainly didn't explain to to the child at the time..) <side-eyes>

And then I didn't even post this at lunchtime. <le enormous sigh>

We've had sun on and off all day, though I've been indoors for most of it.

Evening wenches.

Went dark and then darker and darker still from about 6, waited for the rain annnnnd nothing.

You would get on so well with BigSis re the house thing Apricot 😁. The thing with getting overconfident with knitting or similar is easily done. Might have happened a few times 🤦🏻‍♀️

That sound a heck of a palaver this morning Helen.

Started flagging at work by about 2pm and I’m yawning away now so the sensible thing would be to have an early night.

LetUsPrey · 06/05/2026 07:01

Morning wenches.

Bit gloomy but no rain.

Other than waking up once in the night for the bathroom, I slept up to about a minute before my alarm. This is almost unheard of so I’m hoping that’s done some good.

Short day so hurrah for that.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 06/05/2026 07:52

Morning all. A good night's sleep and and short day LetUs - awesome!

It's gloomy here and there was a tiny bit of rain overnight. Today's traffic is a rinse and repeat of yesterday, except the road is actually shut rather than slow with an accident. So we have two road closures out of the three I'd normally choose from. That's going to be fun. Plus I squatted down to look for a kitten toy (under the fridge) and now my right hip feels very sore for certain movements. FML, etc.

Have a good day all. Fingers crossed for no more jumper mishaps Apricot!

Afternoon. Nice day but I haven’t been outside.

DISAAAAASTER! DH had to give up half way round the golf course because of his shoulder and came back home. He can’t lift his arm above his head. He had an MRI on it last week; goodness knows when he’ll get a diagnosis and treatment.

Also, it hasn’t helped that he’s been lying under the kitchen sink all afternoon changing the tap which has been leaking for months. He had to remove the waste disposal and shelving to get at it while I held the new tap in position. He’s still putting pipes and stuff back.

That sounds a very hectic day Helen, hope your hip is alright. Also what a nuisance the road closures are.

Also hope the good night’s sleep has helped you LetUs.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 06/05/2026 21:21

Oh no - MrA! Apricot, how are you going to cope if he's not out of your hair playing golf? Thoughts and prayers, etc! Sad

Traffic shenanigans finished today with the new road being open instead of a speed-restricted contraflow. Though doubtless there'll be more of that because not all the side roads are connected in yet. That was the extent of excitement today. Work was mostly spreadsheet-wrestling.

We also had a bit of rain - more excitement! Though not much. TB has been promoting something on the One Show that he's in with him who plays Alan Partridge (forget his name) Steve Coogan! (remembered). The BBC on Facebook shared a clip which popped up on my timeline.

Evening
Have had a lovely Bank Holiday weekend as had a friend to stay - luckily they arrived on Sunday as I felt crap on Saturday. Haven't felt 100% since to be honest, the headache has mostly gone but feels like it's threatening to return. Ho hum, hopefully I'll hang on in until the weekend and then just have a quiet one, plenty to do in the garden which should be relaxing. Have also met the new neighbours, couldn't introduce them to Chonk 'n' Floof obviously as all people other than me are scary

That is an absolute disaster apricot, although nothing seems to stop him from doing DIY!

Fingers crossed the good sleep has brought you some benefit letus & suspect we have your 'dark clouds that promise more than they deliver' here today <googles 'rain dance'>

Facebook knows you well helen Grin and hurrah for new roads <passes Savlon>

LetUsPrey · 07/05/2026 07:11

Morning wenches.

Think the sleep did some good, made me feel a bit positive about sleeping for one thing. Back to the usual though. Logically I know exercise will help - like tiring out a toddler - but pfft to logic!

Oh no Apricot! That’s quite the disaster for you … I mean oh no I hope MrApricot’s shoulder isn’t giving too much pain and it’s sorted soon, solely for his benefit so he can get back to the golf he enjoys. Yes, that’s it exactly.

The roadworks and road closures situation sounded awful Helen. Hope your hip feels better.

Poor Fancy 😔. Lots of rest and general garden pottering sounds like what is needed. <sings rain song for wenches who need it - basically any song>

Hope all is well with Wicked and she’s not still in a shortbread coma.

Have super days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 07/05/2026 10:32

Morning all.

Tiiiiiiired - I stayed up too late with kittens last night, trying to tire them out before shutting them in for the night. This morning they knocked down a kickboard and have been exploring under the kitchen sink. They have also been nose to nose with IdiotKitty through the door, without any incident. Shock and fingers crossed. Today is cloudy, but washing is in the machine, regardless. Tomato seedlings have been potted on. Domestic chores etc etc. And of course, work!

Hope that Fancy feels better soon.
<sends Dr Aramis to investigate fancy being under the weather, is do some exercise with LetUs.>
<Also sends for Dr Ennis, who brings a friend to help...>
<Dr Athos will pour MrA a stiff drink, then check out Apricot>

Evening wenches.

Honestly I’m so lazy with exercise (and hate it) that I’m sure even any of them would help much. Also, my back’s gone so I shall shortly hobble to the bath.

Your day sounds exhausting Helen. Have a minute.

ApricotCrush · 07/05/2026 20:25

Evening wenches. I'm having trouble with MN on the iPad, it won't load or keeps refreshing and I have to find where I was on the page. I'm now on the PC and it's not much better.

Nice day, we went for a walk this afternoon. The shoulder isn't any better, he's having trouble lifting a cup of tea, which is really bad. DD came round on the way home from work and told him to take ibuprofen, which I've been telling him to take for days but he's got a thing about it damaging his stomach. Anyway, he's taken some.

I saw that about the new TB drama Helen, I'll have a look for it.

That sounds like a nice weekend Fancy, hope you feel better soon.

Also hope LetUs's back recovers soon.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 07/05/2026 23:28

Urgh, tiiiiiiiiiiired. Kitten chaos this evening with them knocking over their water, IdiotKitty bringing in a rabbit to eat. etc.
<crawls off to hayloft>

Morning wenches.

Poor MrApricot that does rather bad 😞. Hope the ibuprofen helps without issues.

Not surprised you’re tired Helen. You never seem to get a rest.

Back not really any better. Am hoping the walk from the car park will help, and will have to keep moving when I can.

Friday though so yeah!

Have lovely days wenches.

ApricotCrush · 08/05/2026 17:09

Afternoon. Cloudy day and it’s raining now but not enough to do any good.

We’ve had a new TV box from Virgin Media and DH has spent the last two days trying to understand it. The sound keeps cutting out and he’s spent an hour on the phone waiting to speak to someone and has now given up. Why is new and improved always a nightmare? I’m not getting involved as I only watch an hour of television a day and could quite happily live without it.

Hope everyone’s had a good day.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 08/05/2026 17:58

Afternoon all. Manic start to the day, since KillerKitty greeted me with a further two baby rabbits and smeared them around the dining room floor. Appropriate location I suppose, but not helpful for keeping everything running to time since I was running around spraying and wiping down the floor instead of sorting breakfast. He has spent the day asleep, other than to mooch down and snack on the remains about an hour ago, followed by more sleeping.

FFS at the new box Apricot - I agree that new and improved could usually be a lot more improved by not making changes for the sake of it Angry

Hope your back is feeling better LetUs, and Fancy is improving still - if not better.

The boys have a busy weekend of SportingActivity so I'll be there for some of it I expect, plus I'm booked in on a 'secret tour' thing of a local landmark that isn't usually open.

OP posts:
LetUsPrey · 08/05/2026 21:42

Evening wenches.

Hobbling. I think we can safely say I’m hobbling. Fucking bored of it already.

Agree that the new and improved very often is not.

FFS KillerKitty. Your timing leaves much to be desired. The secret tour thing sounds excellent Helen.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 09/05/2026 07:47

Morning all. It's lovely and sunny and today's chore is to deep clean the chicken coop. Can you feel my lack of enthusiasm seeping through this post? I'm going to get the manshapes out of the house and then go back to bed.

Poor you LetUs Sad I'll send HBFs with transport so you don't have to hobble anywhere. I still haven't loaded the HBF pictures onto my new laptop though. Use your imagination for now!

Have a good day all.

LetUsPrey · 09/05/2026 07:54

Morning wenches.

That does sound a rather unpleasant task Helen.

<uses imagination as instructed>

Off into town with DS2. I mentioned I was going in and he more or less volunteered to come with. He also said he might look for clothes to buy!

Have great days wenches.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 09/05/2026 15:45

The shortbread is looooong gone Letus Grin Also hope your back is better.

Nothing much going on here, just work, work, work.

The secret tour sounds fun Helen.

Did the new neighbours seem nice Fancy?

I hope MrA's shoulder improves soon Apes.

The vet called about a week ago, the new test results was not in but she wanted to call anyway because she was going away for two weeks. She thinks Fräsan might have lymphoma but because of Fräsan's age we're not going to do any chemotherapy, it would be too stressful for her. She is getting treatment with cortisone instead and see how she feels. She's very playful, eats a lot etc so she's still acting like a normal cat.

ApricotCrush · 09/05/2026 17:10

Afternoon. Nice day, sunny intervals. Nothing going on here. The shoulder isn’t any better but he’s still on the ibuprofen.

Sorry to hear about Fräsan WW, but you’re right not to stress her with any drastic treatment. She’s behaving normally, so that’s good.

Your back sounds awful LetUs, hope it recovers soon. Also, hope the clothes shopping went well. Hmm

The secret tour thing sounds fun Helen.

DD has just asked us round for a BBQ so I don’t have to cook.
