New thread open for reports on local wildlife, the weather, gardening and domestic chores. Plus the never ending hunt for HBFs who stubbornly fail to materialise.

Aftrnoon. Drizzly and rather cold. Tomorrow looks better.

Lol at Helen's freezer-of-mystery. Ours is a chest and I have no idea what's down the bottom. One of the baskets above is fixed in position by ice and I can't get it out to have a look.

Glad LetUs's heels didn't cause any injury and the weather was good for the party.

Have a good evening all.

LetUsPrey · 27/09/2026 20:04

Evening wenches.

With you on the “meh” day Helen. It’s been a sort of nothing day. Can’t find motivation for anything. Have done some crochet but didn’t particularly enjoy it, just kept picking it up, doing a bit then putting it down. Should really get on with the book I’m reading because I don’t fancy going to book club next week and say that I’m still reading the same book.

That really is a freezer of mystery Apricot!

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 27/09/2026 21:49

Evening all. I ended up on a family beach walk, so that was a nice way to spend the day. Other than that, it's been cooking, eating and sudokus.

That's why I had to defrost our freezer Apricot - the baskets were still removable, but getting frozen in position!

How is is Monday tomorrow? Where has the weekend gone?

FancyFancy · 27/09/2026 22:38

Bit of a meh day here too, next door had a party last night and it was noisy until quite late, I am therefore a bit knackered. Did manage a bit of pottering in the garden and some ironing, so not a complete waste of a day.

I am with my freezer people here Grin had a tasty shepherd's pie this week - it was not what I was expecting. Am planning on dal tomorrow, let's see what that turns out to be.....

Have swapped my days around next week so am working tomorrow <sighs>

LetUsPrey · 28/09/2026 06:52

Morning wenches.

Awful night as I ended up on the settee for a few hours. I know DH doesn’t do the noisy breathing on purpose and he’s still got a cold, but fuck me it’s annoying. Spare bed has got stuff on it so it was easier to go downstairs.

Monday can therefore fuck all the way off. And breathe (but quietly).

Love the mystery freezer meals.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 28/09/2026 09:44

Morning all.

Urgh LetUs - that's a rubbish start to the week.Sad
I have no motivation, and a headache. Also urgh.
Fingers crossed that everyone has a decent day.

Afternoon. Nice day. I washed the bedclothes and got the winter duvet out as I've been a bit chilly in the night. I tried sitting outside earlier but the sun was rather washed out and it wasn't very warm. I'm trying to hold onto the summer. Sad

That's a shame LetUs about your broken night. DH is pretty good, if I ask him to turn over he will, but then ten minutes later he's on his back again and snoring.

Hope Helen's headache didn't last and everyone has had a good day.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 28/09/2026 19:58

I once took out a bag of what I thought was chanterelles from the freezer, turned out to be cat food Grin

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 28/09/2026 21:00

LOL at the NotChanterelles. My "I thought it was a casserole, but I think's it's Humus" has turned out to be Tomato puree/soup.

DH is good at rolling over too. Even then the snoring can be intensely irritating.

It's getting colder here - I wore a hoody today. Still bugger all rain though. I had to water some flower beds today, will have to do more tomorrow.

Morning wenches.

It went quite warm yesterday which was surprising seeing as on the way across town to work I was thinking it might be Big Coat time. Shattered last night and had a very early night.

😁Wicked at the nope, it’s actually cat food.

Hope the headache didn’t materialise into anything too bad Helen.

I’ve put a wash on to put outside before I go to work. I’m hoping that’s as exciting as it gets. Hopefully you’ll have good enough weather to sit outside Apricot.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 29/09/2026 08:57

Morning all. We've had about 1mm rain overnight - not even enough to make the ground absorb the extra water that I lobbed over some shrubs this morning <sigh>
Slinky has been throwing a mouse about in the sitting room. Poor mouse. (I threw it in the the hedge, or 'Sacrificed it to the Hedge Gods' as DS put it.)
Yesterday's headache went once I lobbed sinus drugs at it. Asprin is out of stock at the local supermarket again <more sighs>.

There ends the list of random thoughts pinging about in my head - hope everyone has a good day.

ApricotCrush · 29/09/2026 16:09

Afternoon. Cloudy day so no sitting outside. Nothing going on, just general house stuff.

Grin at WW's cat food/chanterelles.

Hope everyone's had a good day.

LetUsPrey · 29/09/2026 20:44

Evening wenches.

It started to rain as I was putting the washing out this morning but I thought stuff it, so left it outside. Thankfully the not forecast rain mustn’t have lasted very long.

Poor mouse, but at least the Hedgehog Gods will be pacified.

There was a lunch thing at work so instead of putting my sandwiches back in the fridge where they would have been fine for tomorrow, I ate the sandwiches too. Can’t think why my clothes have been feeling snugger.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 29/09/2026 20:50

Evening all. Dry here, but very gloomy. I'm told there's rain coming, not sure if it's meant to be overnight or tomorrow morning.

I do that at work too LetUs - take my own lunch and eat the extra as well.

Currently eating tea still. DS has announced that we're making a cake afterwards. Or he wants to, and will I help? Heaven help the state of the kitchen...

Morning wenches.

Making a cake at nearly 9pm? That’s practically bedtime.

We have rain and wind and extra dark this morning.

Spent much of yesterday evening trying to make something I’ve already made twice before but bloody hell I could not get it right so it’s been undone twice and put to one side.

Have super days wenches.

ApricotCrush · 30/09/2026 17:00

Afternoon. It started off raining here too but cleared up and it’s been quite sunny. I did try outside but the wind was rather chilly.

Cake-making in the evening sounds too much like hard work. I’m not good for anything after we’ve washed up from tea.

Hope everyone’s had a good day.

LetUsPrey · 30/09/2026 20:29

Evening wenches.

We started with rain, then we’ve had sun and by the time I was walking between shops after work I was sweating in my coat. About 10 minutes after I got home the rain was hammering down.

Figured out where I was going wrong with the pattern. Actually reading it properly usually helps 🤦🏻‍♀️

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 30/09/2026 23:02

Late night cake making was followed by late night icing tonight. And yes, very tiring. Work was quite intense and I didn't really want to do anything but veg out this evening, but DS wanted my company while he made icing, so I did lots of washing up and tidying while he was very pedantic careful about following the exact recipe. So there we go.

There was a tiny bit of rain overnight, and today was mostly a bit overcast, but no rain to speak of. Not that I would have noticed really - nose pressed to the spreadsheet and stuck in meetings most of the day. I went into Asda on the way home and was quite taken aback by how warm it was outside when I came out again. Stupid weather. Sad

<snort> at 'it helps to read the pattern' LetUs - I think we've all been there - RTFM, etc!

Morning wenches.

It’s nice that MiniHelen wanted to spend time with you, even if it was late night cake icing. Some communication from DS2 would be good. Le sigh.

I’d normally be contemplating Big Coat by now but it says it’s up to 17° today so probably not.

I’ve put a wash on to put on the heated airer before I leave for work. Bit unsure now as to whether I got my timing sums right.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 01/10/2026 10:27

Morning all. Sunshine here and no need to coats. I slept in today and was woken up by DH's alarm - completely bamboozled about what day it was and why the alarm was going off. Confused Then went downstairs to multi-part carnage. Remains of a rat in the dining room, thrown-up rest of rat in the kitchen, and a mouse that a kitten had got bored of playing with and just left lying about in the sitting room. (KillerKitty eats his mice, he's never to bored to eat them, so def. a kitten.)

So that was a lovely start - the remains have been sacrificed to the Hedge Gods. Oh - and there was the back end of a mouse outside on the path to the chickens. I lobbed that into the hedge as well, but it got caught on a branch like a rather gory xmas decoration, so i have to take that down as sent it off into the undergrwoth. Confused

Apologies to squeamish wenches - have a lovely day all!

Afternoon.
Am gradually feeling less tired, just as well as I have a friend visiting at the weekend, so need to get ready for that. TCFKAC still has his collar on and is likely to want to hide in the spare room, so friend will have to make do with DD's room <eye rolls at spoilt cats> He is much more his normal self, bossing Floof around etc. but no real change re the breathing, so the waiting continues.

I think you win the freezer food prize ww 😁

ApricotCrush · 01/10/2026 16:25

Afternoon. Rain overnight, but it's been a nice day and the washing has dried.

Yes Helen, I went to put the bin down the drive the other evening and was surprised that it was warmer outside than in the house. Very weird for this time of year. I remember when we used to have frosts at the beginning of September.

Grin at reading the pattern LetUs, it does help.

Good that TCFKAC is getting back to his usual self, hope the breathing improves soon.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 01/10/2026 21:11

Fancy Yay! Finally I win something Grin

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 01/10/2026 22:38

Evening all. We've been watching Celeb Traitors. It was bonkers Grin
Sorry to hear that Fancy is still tired (if less so), and that TCFKAC is still having trouble with breathing. Glad he seems better in himself though.

DH is trying to look at his pensions online and is swearing away to himself - they seem to be all swapping providers and he hasn't paid any attention to the letter she's had about what's gone where and his log-ins aren't working, and and an... <sigh> he's getting very stressy about it all.

LetUsPrey · 02/10/2026 07:08

Morning wenches.

Got distracted with trying to finish my book last night.

I’m picturing the kitchen with little rodent outlines drawn in white chalk Helen, perhaps one of the kittens holding up the prisoner name and number board whilst they have their picture taken. You could pretend the hedge decoration was for Halloween 😁

Fairly positive news about TCFKAC Fancy. I remember watching Bohemian Rhapsody with a friend (who also has cats) and when it got to the bit where Freddie’s bought his mansion and all the cats have their own rooms, we looked at each other with a “only fair, totally normal” look.

We have rain and my back’s hurting from all the coughing, but Friday so hurrah!

Have super days wenches.
