New thread open for reports on local wildlife, the weather, gardening and domestic chores. Plus the never ending hunt for HBFs who stubbornly fail to materialise.

Afternoon. Nice day after a rather foggy start. Haven’t done much.

I have a dental appointment tomorrow and am horrified to discover that both the dentist and hygienist who we have been seeing for over 30 years have done a runner and retired. Actually quite hurt that they didn’t let us know because we all go there and have a great relationship with them. To be fair DD did have a phone call last week to say he was retiring and was she alright with another dentist for her next appointment in November, so we had an inkling, but no-one phoned us and we didn’t know it would be so sudden. I’m dreading going as I have no idea who I will be seeing. My teeth are very complex. Sad

Glad TCFKAC is doing well and aww at the fan club.

Hope physio was good for LetUs and Helen negotiated the closed road successfully.

LetUsPrey · 22/09/2026 20:15

Evening wenches.

That does sound the most sensible option Helen.

That is a bit off Apricot, to not have given any indication at all to longstanding patients. I didn’t need to be told that my first dentist at current place (excellent dentist) was leaving as she was very pregnant! And I was relieved when the one before the current one went because he was a bit crap so I was just pleased to see the back of him.

Physio went well and she’s given me lots of different exercises for my shoulders, which I will actually do because it’s interfering with knitting/crochet. The weather went rather warm this afternoon. One more day off this week and I’ve already made shopping plans as there’s a crap ton of birthdays coming up, two of which are mother’s and DS1’s.

FancyFancy · 22/09/2026 21:20

Did your pick up plans work Helen? And how are the sniffles?

That is odd apricot, you would think they want to keep their patients sweet by keeping them informed. Fingers crossed your new dentist is a good one.

All your talk of flapjacks inspired me to make some over the weekend letus and now I'm wondering why the bloody hell I don't make them more regularly - I have a nice recipe with seeds, dried fruit and coconut in, but I also love a plain flapjack. I really must do them more often!

Last day off today - took a load of stuff to the tip for recycling this morning which always makes me feel virtuous. Started to watch that Athlos athletics from a few days ago. JFC my ears. Despite being held in London the main presenters and commentators were American. Very American. Too over-excited and asked some dumb questions. Visuals were shit - never mind fireworks and dramatic lighting, if I can't clearly see the long jump take off board what is the bloody point? And don't get me started on the fucking Tiffany tiaras and blathering on about 'being able to be feminine and then coming out to compete' <eyerolls> are you promoting female sport or pinkifying it? Fucking patronising sexist bollocks <fumes>

Sorry, as you were. I think I may have to watch yesterday's Only Connect to calm myself down.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 22/09/2026 22:00

Evening all. Pick-up plans worked, though I was faintly amused to watch the number of cars that thought that they could get through the road closure and had to turn around again. (I was also sympathetic to a point, because if the closure had been 100 yards further back you could have got round it, and as ever they don't tell you on the signs where the road is actually closed, so unless you already knew it was proper shut, you would think you had half a chance.)

Sniffles are sniffly, DH is headachy but much better. He's been up all day so I had a laundry fest with the bedding and wafted about some flea spray for good measure <side-eyes at cats>

FFS at the athletics Fancy, I'm surprised your blood pressure went through the roof at all that idiocy.

Sympathies on the density Apricot - though they're in such short supply here that they don't need to keep on anyone's good side Hmm

I tried to do some of my physio exercises yesterday LetUs - they're all on a app and, urgh. I did a few and gave up again - I'm meant to press buttons on my phone, but I can't hold the phone, press the button and do the exercises - that takes two hands and I need one of them for the actual exercises. Bastarding mobile phones designed for male-size hands.... <sigh> Today was Pilates anyway, so I've done other arm exercises.

Off to BoringOfficeJob tomorrow. urgh, again.

Morning wenches.

Mmmm Fancy flapjacks for breakfast - delicious!

I know exactly what you mean about the athletics Fancy. There was much WTAF here.

That’s very frustrating re the absence of early warning for the road closure. That’s the issue I’m having with these latest exercises Helen. Need to take my glasses off as I have to lie on my side for some, need both hands for some. I’m going to have to write them down because I can’t remember them all properly to just do them without checking the videos first.

Last day off today. Going shopping this morning for birthday things.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 23/09/2026 08:00

Morning all. Sunny here at the moment. Slinky has had at least two mice for breakfast, plus actual breakfast. Spot is prancing about outside a rather more ineffectively enthusiastic way, bless her. IdiotKitty has been in, been out, and come back in to flomp upstairs somewhere.

Sniffles and Sneezes continue, so I have invoked the 'Piss off with your illness and work from home' office rule. Which is a pain, because I really would prefer to have the offices nice large monitors to use for glaring at spreadsheets and crying.

Have a good day all.

ApricotCrush · 23/09/2026 17:30

Afternoon. Sun and cloud and not cold. I went to the dentist and the new hygienist was horrific, very rough with my gums which are delicate, blood everywhere. The new dentist however, was lovely, she was very kind and caring. The receptionist asked me how I got on as I booked the next appointment and I said the hygienist was very rough. It turns out that the old hygienist is still doing part time, so she booked me with her which was a relief. I was also given a leaflet from the old dentist explaining what’s happening and thanking everyone for everything, so that’s alright.

DH says the same about the American golf commentators Fancy, he can’t listen to them.

That’s a bit stupid about the exercise apps.

Hope everyone’s had a good day.

LetUsPrey · 23/09/2026 20:10

Evening wenches.

<throws vitamins and drugs at Helen>

That hygienist sounds awful Apricot. Your poor gums 😔. Phew at nice dentist though and finding out previous hygienist can still see you.

The American tennis commentators are very good thankfully, at least the ones I hear at the Slams and the bigger tournaments are.

Shoulders feeling much better today because I was very good and did my exercises. I’ve been able to crochet more than I have been recently but have still been sensible and not overdone it. It’s very noticeable how much it affected me not being able to knit/crochet much this last week or so, which sounds a bit drama llama, but I’m no longer sitting about with a face like a wet weekend in Whitby (no offence to Whitby - purely for the alliteration 😁)

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 23/09/2026 21:53

Evening all. Still sniffling and sneezing Sad Woe is me, etc. Pulled a long day in spreadsheet hell, but hope I've tried a new approach which will be more productive. Or not - my brain was a bit too scrambled by the end, so who knows!

FFS at the new hygienist Apricot - I hope they apologised and your gums aren't too sore.

I still haven't done exercises and actually fancy<nto> a bath rather than rolling about on the floor <nlt> Hmm

Morning wenches.

🤞🏻for the new approach Helen. Poor you with the continued illing.

DH is full of a cold. He sounds and looks dreadful. Hoping I don’t catch it because a) I don’t want a cold and b) we’ve got a party for BigSis at the weekend and I don’t want to miss that. So hopefully DH will be better and I won’t have caught it so we don’t pass it on to others.

Back to work today. Ho hum.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 24/09/2026 10:36

Morning all. Sunshine here and I've forgotten to put the washing on... <beetles off to put washing on> The car is in the garage being fixed, so DS can take himself to work this evening.

Fingers crossed for you avoiding the cold LetUs - hope that work isn't too grim.

ApricotCrush · 24/09/2026 16:57

Afternoon. Pleasant day but I haven't been out, only wandered around the garden. DH is still getting the roots of the felled tree out and kindly showed me some electric secateurs which he said are amazing and could take your finger off if you weren't careful. That didn't worry me at all! Shock

He's also been for physio on his shoulder and has exercises to do, thankfully not on an app.

Hope Helen and MrHelen soon feel better. Also hope MrLetUs is okay for the party and LetUs doesn't catch it.

LetUsPrey · 24/09/2026 20:40

Evening wenches.

Electric secateurs?! No, they sound absolutely fine. Absolutely. <hides them> Apricot you have to practice your shrug and “I know nothing” face when MrA is looking for them.

Work was meh, although it seems practically the entire office has had or currently has a cold or worse. NC felt and sounded dreadful so she was super careful to keep her distance.

I’ve typed out my shoulder exercises which had made things easier.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 24/09/2026 21:27

Evening. The car is fixed - hurrah! DS has taken it off to work, DH has been out at SportingVenue. They're both back now and having re-heated tea. DS is getting lots of updates from his GF re. Uni. and what she's up to. (He's also been given his share of tips for the past two months and is busy counting it, repeatedly!) Other than that, today as been working and distracted by the internet.

Doooooooooooom re. the colds at work LetUs - and MrA's electric secateurs for that matter! It would be a very sad thing if they mysteriously went missing. <does exaggerated wink> One of my secateurs broke this week - the spring went so they don't just pop open after you've used them. They're more like mini garden shears now. Hmm

Morning wenches.

I think it’s raining. Again. But it’s Friday so hurrah.

Good news re car and university tips.

Better get on as I have errands to run on the way to work so need to set off a bit earlier.

Have super days wenches.

ApricotCrush · 25/09/2026 17:47

Afternoon. Bit of a miserable day with occasional drizzle. I did a Lidl shop this morning and managed to keep dry. I’m sure I had something to say but can’t remember what so it can’t have been that interesting.

Yay for Helen’s car being fixed and hope LetUs manages to avoid the colds. There are a lot about at the moment, DD&Co have had them.

Have a good evening all.

FancyFancy · 25/09/2026 19:54

Evening, yay it's the weekend!

Good news the car is fixed helen & I hope the sniffles bugger off now so you can enjoy the weekend.

Keeping fingers crossed for you staying germ-free letus <gets Germ Free Adolescence earworm>

What a relief you can still have the old hygienist apricot, a rough one is a nightmare. My dentist went through a phase of constantly changing their hygienist, thankfully the current one has been there for a while now, she's very nice.

TCFKAS appears to be getting some of his mojo back - found him on the kitchen surfaces yesterday Hmm. His breathing is not much better & his back legs still seem a bit weak, but his appetite is good and he's been more like his bossy self - as long as no strangers are around!

LetUsPrey · 25/09/2026 21:03

Evening wenches.

Back home after collecting DS2 from SportingActivity.

That does sound quite good re TCFKAC Fancy, except for the still iffy breathing and wobbly back legs. Hurrah for returning bossiness!

Fairly miserable weather here too.

Have had the idea to wear heels for this party tomorrow (no idea why) but I haven’t worn heels for ages so I’m having a go at walking about in them. Am hoping an early night and some half-decent sleep will stave off the illing.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 25/09/2026 22:35

Evening all. It has been a Day... Spreadsheet hell progressed with an additional dose of 'we need this for the auditors by close of play today', and then it was back to trying to provide a 'simple' summary of a multi-year, multi project programme with 6 or more funding sources. FML, etc. I think I've pretty much done all I can at this point. TGIF...

Glad to hear that TCFKAC has been up to mischief, so long as he doesn't do himself a mischief in the process.

We had sunshine all day, but I forgot to bring the washing in and it's being darked on for a second night.

Good luck with the heels LetUs!

Morning wenches.

That does indeed sound like spreadsheet hell Helen, with bonus hellish bells and whistles.

Sunny but chilly so far. One forecast says rain, no wind and 15 later, the other says no rain, a bit windy and 18. This does not help with washing planning as I’ll be out for the potential rainy bit. Gosh the actual excitement!

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · Yesterday 12:46

Afternoon all. Today I am defrosting the freezer, doing laundry, and cleaning the carpet. I suspect I'm heading for the Meatloaf option (2 out of 3), but as he says, that's not bad...
Sunshine here fortunately, and the washing machine is beeping at me like the needy little sod it is.

OP posts:
ApricotCrush · Yesterday 16:15

Afternoon. It’s been a nice day but I didn’t get the washing ready early enough so I didn’t bother. We sat outside earlier and I made a mess of a 12-square sudoku. I’d nearly finished it as well.

Yes, good luck with the high heels LetUs. I can’t wear them any more which is very upsetting, I’ve loved them since I was 14. Hope you have a lovely time.

I need to defrost our freezer Helen. I’m always scared it won’t switch on again after, it’s very old.

Hope TCFKAC continues to recover and his breathing improves.

Have a good evening all.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · Yesterday 21:23

Evening all. Meatloaf can watch and learn - 3 out of 3 achieved Grin Though defrosting the freezer is so bloody tedious. I got out some leftovers to defrost for tea. One has turned out to be stewed fruit - not a casserole, and the other, we still don't know. I suspect it's a humous or something. I ended up cooking from scratch anyway.

Tiiiiired though.

Hope that LetUs is having fun in heels, and not getting crippled by them!
