ciao!

Sputnik, bless you, do I really come across as self confident? or generally a pita ?! Thanks, you made me happy

gio71 · 11/06/2008 07:08

I awlays think that as well Franca, you come over a s really competent, lovely person
You're just out of practice as you haven't been in the rat race for a while. That's a good thing IMO
You just have to remember that those of us working aren't any different and are generally winging it and hoping for the best (or is that just me )

gio71 · 11/06/2008 07:10

a good thing being out of the rat race I meant.
You are lucky because you can choose what you really like and aim to create a job around it.

Rosa · 11/06/2008 09:27

One day Franca you will find just what it is you are looking for. I do not think I could go back to a competitive job again and would probably settle for something a bit mundane but with a bit of brain power needed. I think it was the constant pressure, deadlines, targets, pdrs etc that drove me mad and you actually lost your focus on what the actual job was.
Hot here tody have been ironing and now must go for a shower

Agree Rosa, my current job is at present not as stressful as my old one. I found when I went back from mat leave that I had lost all my drive and ambition and could not carry out the job as effectively as was expected (I'd been given a promotion during my mat leave and had been offered a directorship if I managed to turn a situation around), so when out of the blue the opportunity to move on to a cushier number came up I jumped at it.

Now I'm earning the same money as before but can work from home and choose my own hours to suit. The only bummer is the travel but it's one or 2 days at a time every now and then and DP has to get used to looking after DD and getting up early in the mornings [evil cackle emoticon].

Lovely day here too, am toying with the idea of doing some washing but daren't in case that brings more rain.

Rosa · 11/06/2008 13:25

Noooo Brang do not do washing as I have 1 load out and another on the way and when you do you washing I get your rain about 3 hrs later .. Please do Thursday !!
I was thinking about retraining as a teacher but I dont think you can do that OU as much is done as a placement nowadays.
I don't think anything will come up for me in my old sector purely as its a pretty sewn up corner now with the big companies but I will start to worry / think when I have the time with the dd's.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the motherhood thing Rosa. I really can't be bothered to do stuff unconected with DCs at the moment. I am expecting that to pass at some point though.

I think teaching is pretty hard to get into here, from what Ive heard.

Brangelina · 11/06/2008 13:36

Too late Rosa, am entering the spin cycle as I write...

No clouds so far, fingers crossed.

Brangelina · 11/06/2008 13:42

Rosa, you could do private English teaching, you'd just need to do TEFL and maybe an ESL course. An ex colleague of mine was trying to get back into teaching (she already ahd the qualification) but found it a nightmare as it's very much raccomandazioni and precarietà.

Rosa · 11/06/2008 14:07

mmm Maybe not then oh well just an idea. TAsk for today travel Insurance for Uk doing my head in . I have always had annual multi trip and covers me up to 8 weeks before est due date. I was discovered to have an irregula heart beat when pg with dd- No treatment, no follow up no anything - Other companies say fine no worries as no symptons / treatment etc in last 2 years but they only cover up to 12 or 16 weeks. The one I am with wants £87 !!!I am coming back around 28 / 29 weeks .
Now looking at single trips really just want cover for the actual journey there and back as when in the Uk medical etc is covered. Can I get a decent one ?????

OP posts:
Brangelina · 11/06/2008 14:27

Travel insurance is a nightmare. I think I got one with EuropAssistance a few years ago for Thailand and Cuba and it was cheaper than the UK equivalent, but then I was not pg at the time.

What exactly do you need to cover if it's only the journey itself? I don't know if anyone does a scheme just to cover flights, most airlines' insurance cover passenger illness or whatever, although they do have a limit on how many wks pg. Is it 27wks for some airlines?

I'm sorry, am being totally useless, aren't I?

Brangelina · 11/06/2008 14:30

Oh just read about the heartbeat. Does your insurance co have to know? Was it an Italian diagnosis and is insurance co UK? Could the bit of paper get "lost"?

francagoestohollywood · 11/06/2008 17:06

Brangelina, you def did a washing as clouds are gathering over Milan ... .
Gio thank you . I swear I don't feel competent at all, never have actually. I've never been a competitive person. Just a bookish, useless one .

Rosa, if you were in Milan, you'd have a job ready for you, my dc's English tutor .

I need to go and cook. Have been out all day, bought sandals for the dc, 43 euros for 2 pairs, which I think is quite a bargain (mind you dd's are bruttissime... but she liked them...)
a dopo

Rosa · 11/06/2008 18:49

France thanks for the job offer maybe we could do lessons via the computer with web cams ????
My original insurance knows !! As I declared it when we first travelled with dd . I have decided to do 2 single trips - Basically to cover the journey luggage / delay etc etc. We had the yr round as it covered us for trips to mountains , Gran Canaria plus in dd 1st year we went to the Uk 3 times and overall it worked out cheaper. In fact this one will probably work out more expensive. I found an Italian site which for once looks a bit like Uk standard holiday cover . I have had this thing since birth probably and it was actually found when I had dd1 morfologica (SP) . HAd 1 cardio check when pg and then a follow up after birth no treatment etc.
It is about to storm here - my washing is in but I am blaming Brangelina 100% for any rain that falls
Sputnik you ok as yesterday you were a bit down ??
When is hothell back ??
Pippi all the birthday party gossip please and how were the cupcakes?
Oh I found Creme Fraiche..have added lemon juice- tacos in oven....

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 11/06/2008 20:24

OK talk me though your tacos NOW .

Yes, where's pippi gone?

and hothell? her holidays are lasting forever.

Sputnik · 11/06/2008 20:48

I'm fine thanks. Not down as such yesterday but very sleep deprived. Turned out the baby had an inflamed ear. I've been giving him drops and he is much happier. Lots of aerosols too, do the paeds up north prescribe them all the time too? I am a big fan but no one seems to do them in the UK

francagoestohollywood · 11/06/2008 20:51

oh, poor baby.
Yes, all my friends' children seem addicted to aerosols and soluzione salina in the nose. Mine have never been pescribed anything of the sort in the UK. Mind you, they've never had many coughs/catarro etc. I think because of clean air in Exeter

francagoestohollywood · 11/06/2008 20:52

prescribed even.
nothing on tv. it's gonna be a long mn night for me.

Sputnik · 11/06/2008 21:01

You are lucky Franca. It's one long snotfest in Casa Sputnik

francagoestohollywood · 11/06/2008 21:07

We have snot here as well, but I usually ignore it... . Paediatricians in Milan are convinced that the increase in virulent coughs/catarro/ear infections etc is linked to the air pollution.
They do get ill more frequently when they are 1-2, ime. I remember that ds was ill for the whole month of november when he was 17 months. I was pregnant. It was tough.

Sputnik · 11/06/2008 21:21

We live halfway up a montain though, you'd think the air would be clean here. Or maybe all the pollution just drifts up from Rome.

For some reason DD stays snotty for ages after a cold, and the baby gets ear problems, so the aerosol machine is nearly always out.

francagoestohollywood · 11/06/2008 21:26

Yes, the air should be clean where you live .
My friend's dd2 (16 months) has been ill for a month now, ear infection, antibiotics, cagotto, temperature and snot again.... the works. My friend swears on aerosol. My mum swore on aerosol. I'm , but perhaps I spent too much time in the UK .

I so long for an M&S cake. possibly carrot cake. or victoria sponge?

Sputnik · 12/06/2008 08:52

The thing that really convinced me with the aerosols was when I was pg and had sinusitis for weeks and weeks. A few days of aerosols cleared it.

Rosa · 12/06/2008 08:58

I think aerosols are fab as well. Even if you just put saline solution in them it helps. I found they were great when I was snotty and bf. DD is happy with them and even grandma had a snort and changed her mind on them when she was here.
Tacos - Casa Fiesta in Packet from supermarket.+ about 300g of carne. I had the soft ones tacos that is !!! I also added some tinned toms to the meat . The creme fraiche just made it for me and although Iwas burping for about an hour afterwards it hit the button . I di have an enchilada mix as well
Now do you think Brang is going todo any washing today as I want to wash the rugs ( bathroom / kichen ) but they need good drying time !!!!

PippiCalzelunghe · 12/06/2008 09:45

I am here I am here! sorry I am still coming round after party. it went very well although too many people which meant I had no chance to speak to anybody. I was just running around like a headless chicken giving drink, opening the door, losing my drink etc. but it was fab.
cakes where 'deeeeelicious' (to quote peppa pig) although small and expensive. surely could do them myself - will try next week, before dd1 birthday party - or order them from waitrose instead as cheaper and bigger.

no idea what aerosol is. I've def become british. dd1 is always half dressed and shocks all italians. mind you for the 'real' british she's a true italian. we had a mini paddling pool in the garden but it was cloudy and chilly. well dh's friend's children (half welsh) stripped down in their swimwear in a second and in they went - brrrrr!!! DD1 had all the best intention but struggled a bit, she went in for a minute before turning blue. However she spent the rest of the party in underwear and canottiera. This after I bought a cute little dress (thankfully from H&M) for her !! in comparison monday was 27 degrees and I met with an italian friend, well hid daughter still had footmuff, long sleeves and canottiera and furry thing for pram!

however true that between 1 and 2 they are always sick!

Franca you do sound so confident to me too.
