Morning wenches.

That’s awful news Helen, poor Angie 😔 (understatement)

Was going to complain about having had the shittest of all shit sleeps ever but perspective and all that.

Sitting with a jigsaw is an excellent way to spend your time Wicked. It’s good for your brain and stuff.

I think we had bamboo in our garden Helen but it doesn’t appear to be there any more and hasn’t been for a while. Perhaps I should come and look at your bamboo and it’ll give up. <hard stare at MiniHelen>

Was going to say something else but I got interrupted and now can’t remember what it was. Le sigh.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 12/01/2026 13:14

Morning all.

Long chat last night with DS about his continuing revision avoidance and I need to talk to college again since he can agree to their strategies during pep talks, but can't bring himself to follow them <sigh>

I know it's not as cold as it was, but my hands haven't had the memo.

ApricotCrush · 12/01/2026 17:13

Evening. It has rained a lot and the snow has gone, except for those who cleared their drives and have mounds of it on the footpath. We don’t bother.

The curtain in our little bedroom has fallen down because the fitting has degraded and DH has spent the afternoon sorting it, with me holding the pelmet up. In the middle of it the gas man came to service the boiler, so it’s been a bit hectic. The heating usually breaks down after so I’m a bit apprehensive.

Oh goodness, I’m so sorry to hear about Angie, what a shock. Hope she can fight it…😔

Hope everyone’s had a good day.

Evening all.

Today's excitement has been having the roadside hedges flailed by the local farmer, which led to me being out on the road with my broom (I don't want a puncture from a shard of wood), joined by a neighbour and having a good old natter.

Also, DS tracked down the filming, but didn't managed to insert himself into the background. Local News Reporter was less excited today, and said that was unclear if TB would be on-set. (Spoiler - no, because he's never in those scenes in the book!) So Local New Reporter either hasn't read the book, or was trying to lure unwary fans into the city to spend their money on the local economy while they waited for him (in vain) with bated breath Grin

LetUsPrey · 13/01/2026 07:17

Morning wenches.

I really hope Local Reporter was being sneaky and trying to boost the local economy 😄. I feel your pain re MiniHelen.

Blimey Apricot you never stop! Fingers crossed boiler behaves itself.

Work was awful with a massive job landed on NC and I which is going to take us weeks to do. We are trying to be all “we can only do our best” about it. On that note, I’d better have breakfast and then head off.

Have super days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 13/01/2026 08:58

Urgh LetUs Sad That's a big pile of steaming poo then. It's right - you can only do your best, but that doesn't change the fact that they've dumped it on you and NC and you've go to try and deal with it Sad

There was a slightly scenic sunrise this morning - some pinky/peachy clouds, orange sun showing though a sliver of cloud. But it's quickly turned into a sheet of solid grey cloud, so that's rather gloomy in all senses.

Today is exercise, then shopping for those little luxuries like... milk, bread and veg. And work of course. Whoop. Hmm

FancyFancy · 13/01/2026 13:16

Afternoon, wfh today as having various stuff done - including boiler service like you apricot. It will need a bit of work done, some of which I was expecting.

That is sad news about Angie helen

Very grey and drizzly here, but at least it's warmer. Am off out to the theatre this evening so will have to trade looking chic (as if Grin) for wearing a practical waterproof coat. not quite ww levels of weather related inconvenience!

That sucks letus, I hope your day isn't going too badly.

ApricotCrush · 13/01/2026 16:39

Afternoon. Cloudy and dismal here, but I prefer this to the snow.

As I expected, the heating settings are all over the place, the water is scalding hot and the radiators luke warm. Why can't they leave things alone. It'll take DH ages to get it back to normal. Angry

Well done to MiniHelen for finding the filming. Takes me back. Grin

Hope work has been better today LetUs in spite of the big job.

Enjoy the theatre Fancy.

OP posts:
SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 13/01/2026 16:57

Daaaaaaaaark.

Very annoying that all your settings have changed Apricot. Though on the plus side, while MrA is sorting out the heating, he won't be getting on any roofs?

Enjoy the theatre Fancy - I'm imagining you in an oversize bright yellow 'fisherman' style waterproof jacket now Grin (It would keep you dry?!)

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 14/01/2026 07:24

Morning all. Daaaaark, but sunrise is on its way. Unlike DS who is glued to his bed Hmm
KillerKitty has had a good night, jusging by the mouse stomachs I've had to clear up this morning. He's also still in 'kill' mode judging by the way he swiped at me as I walked past him. Just as well he can also be obnoxiously cute on a regular basis!

Have a good day all ,with re-setting boilers and stupid work shite, and hopefully some nice parts of the day as well.

LetUsPrey · 14/01/2026 07:34

Morning wenches.

NC was off sick yesterday (been poorly since Friday, all sounds a bit scary tbh) so that didn’t help matters. In fact, she’s just messaged to say no improvement and won’t be in today either.

<harrumph> at messed up boiler settings. Hope theatre was good Fancy. Practicality trumps style in my world (no surprise there) 😄. I bet you were still stylish though.

<deploys air horn at MiniHelen>

Am already looking forward to my early finish today.

Have lovely days wenches.

ApricotCrush · 14/01/2026 16:50

Afternoon. Another dull day. I’ve just been to post a letter in the next road and it is a bit chilly.

No, he’s not up any ladders Helen, but he’s discovered a young chap on YouTube who’s building a cabin in the woods single-handedly and he’s living vicariously through him. 😂

That’s a shame about NC LetUs, hope she’s alright.

Have a good evening all.

OP posts:
SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 14/01/2026 22:20

Evening all.

Vicarious living through YouTubers sounds much safer than MrA's usual exploits Apricot. That sounds rubbish LetUs - poor NC. I hope she's better soon Sad

Nothing exciting going on here. Work was the usual, with added 'I think I broke the system' (by me) and 'How did you even do that?' (by someone cleverer than me). But I had a referesher on some stuff which was really helpful, and I don't think I scared off a new starter, who sat in on a meeting with me in bemused /slightly overwhelmed silence.

Hope everyone's had a good day and Fancy's theatre trip was fun.
<peers at Wicked's jigsaws and adds a piece>

LetUsPrey · 15/01/2026 06:32

Morning wenches.

You’ll just have to watch out for MrApricot making extra trips to buy wood and poring over ordnance survey maps. Mind you, a cabin in the woods sounds nice.

Well done on not scaring away a new starter Helen 😄

Not sure what today will bring but I’m fairly sure it won’t be good.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 15/01/2026 09:12

Morning. It's all grey and gloomy outside. I bought a dress earlier in the week which arrived yesterday, and looks like a sack when it's on me (a pretty sack, but still a sack), so that's going back. Not much else to report.

Oh - the final Local News excitement was that a cafe stayed open later than usual to feed the film crew, accompanied by a photo of film crew queuing up for their food. Grin The article was a study in 'Tell me nothing much happens round here without telling me that nothing much happens!'

Fingers crossed for work LetUs

ApricotCrush · 15/01/2026 16:40

Afternoon. Still cloudy and dismal, but not particularly cold.

We're watching the new series of Grantchester, with another new vicar. It's easy to watch, amusing and doesn't tax my brain too much. I think some of the writers of dramas try to be too clever with their plots, particularly with time changes, and they just annoy me.

Grin at the Local News excitement.

Hope your day hasn't been too stressful LetUs.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 15/01/2026 21:23

Evening all. Today has been very bitty, with college run and exercise and vet (WobblyCat was having anti-wobble treatment) and fitting some actual work in as well... The weather has been unremittingly grey and damp. The road is awash with puddles.

TFI...

LetUsPrey · 16/01/2026 07:31

Morning wenches.

NC was back! Hurrah!

Poor WobblyCat. Hope the anti-wobble medicine works. Local newspaper reporting is ace 😄

Have you watched Cooper and Fry Apricot? Think it was a Channel 5 thing. Detective drama murder stuff. We enjoyed it.

Running a bit late this morning so I’d best get going.

Have super days wenches.

ApricotCrush · 16/01/2026 16:39

Afternoon. We had a bit of sun this morning and golf is back so yay!

That’s great that NC is back LetUs. Never heard of Cooper and Fry, will check it out.

Hope WobblyCat is alright.

OP posts:
SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 16/01/2026 17:43

Evening all.

Hurrah for the return of NC - hope she's feeling loads better. Also hurrah for the return of golf (and Apricot's sanity!)

Busy start to this morning, the car needed defrosting, DS was slow getting out the door, then I had to race back for work. In today's I am a muppet news, last night I took the leftovers out of the casserole pan and put them in the fridge. This morning I found that I'd also carefully put the empty casserole pan back in the fridge, and put the dishwasher on without putting in the veg pans. Hmm at myself! This afternoon DS drove me home from the bus. [white knuckles] (He's actually ok, but I'm a rubbish passenger.)

Hope everyone has a good night, and plans for a lovely weekend. (I have no plans, other than maybe the garden centre, to buy a plant support.)

FancyFancy · 16/01/2026 21:42

Evening
Theatre was very good thanks - was a musical & the dancing was fab.

Has been a nice day here too apricot, lovely and bright, shame I was inside for most of it. Mind you even if not working I'd have been nowhere near a golf course.

That's very brave of you helen, I think I'd be a terrible driving teacher! No, not a bright yellow fisherman's waterproof coat, but it was a big waterproof coat - thank goodness theatres aren't so formal now.

Yay for NC being back letus , I think that calls for a celebration (any excuse)

I'm off for short walk followed by lunch with colleagues tomorrow. I suspect we will be turbo-walking powered by indignation and whinging Grin

LetUsPrey · 17/01/2026 07:48

Morning wenches.

Thinking about it Fancy, if I’m walking with colleague(s) after work and we’re talking about someone being useless, we do seem to walk faster! You could start a new fitness craze 😄

That all sounds very familiar Helen 😄

Hurrah for the return of golf!

Yesterday was the usual eyerolling shenanigans. Meeting BestFriend this morning and then I must have a good tidy. This probably will not happen.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 17/01/2026 12:11

Afternoon all. Turbo-walking powered by irritation definitely sounds like a new fitness craze Grin hope that lunch and walk were fun.

I've had a lie-in and went on the stepper. I had plans to do some gardening after that, but WobblyCat has climbed up and designated me as a bed. So that's me sorted for the rest of the day Grin

Hope everyone has a good day.

ApricotCrush · 17/01/2026 16:30

Afternoon. Another nice day with lots of sun but I haven't been outside.

DC learning to drive is a bit stressful. DH taught them both and they just had a few lessons to get through the test. I remember DS driving up to the top of a huge multi-storey where he worked at the time with me in the car and he went so fast I was terrified.

Hope everyone's had a good day.

OP posts:
SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 17/01/2026 21:04

Evening. WobbyCat got off, so I got out into the garden and tired myself out raking dead grass out of the struggling raspberry patch and digging up saplings. <wilts> The chickens appreciated it though. IdiotKitty also pranced about in the garden with me and traumatised the local mouse population.
