Evening wenches.

Usual Sunday. Majority of holiday washing is done, there’s just a small amount that will go in with DS2’s sporting stuff next weekend. All ironing is done though. There’s been a lot of tennis watching and some crochet.

Did the shelves get done Helen?

Our rain seems to have shifted so hopefully it’s heading towards wench gardens in need.

<puts out tray of flapjacks>

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 06/07/2025 22:11

Evening all. Shelves did not go up. Partly due to the fact that we discovered we have two nearly-identical but actually different shelving systems, which won't combine. And also because RAIN!!! With monotonous predictability, we had an utter deluge, which knocked moss off the roof and blocked the gutters, and then we spent several hours dragging ladders to different gutters and running around between different water butts and hose pipes and tanks trying to fix blockages and leaks... Water butts are refilled so all is good, but you don't need to dig down far and the ground is still dry. Confused

Other than that, there's been some cooking and housework. #RockAndRoll (I'm sure there was more going on, but I don't remember.)
<scoffs flapjacks>

Also - yes - overlong guitar solos can get in the bin - 'guitar wanking' as I call it. DS and DH thoroughly disagree, so maybe I'd be more impressed if I played guitar myself. But most of them seem self-indulgent nonsense.

On that note - the hayloft calls.

LetUsPrey · 07/07/2025 07:34

Morning wenches.

Oh that’s annoying re the shelves Helen. Good that you had some rain but preferably without gutter blockages.

Trying to get back into the morning routine here. Urgh.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 07/07/2025 09:56

Morning all. Sun and wind today.

I forgot to tell you yesterday's comedy cooking moment - I was making a cake, got distracted, and carefully tipped beaten egg into the sieve, thinking that I was adding flour. Grin

Other comedy moments were mostly related to squelching up and down the garden with buckets of water while we were bailing out an overflowing water butt.

Very tired today (bastard mosquito buzzed in my ear at gone midnight - does anyone else remember Jasper Carrott's mosquito sketch?) and looking forward to DS summer holidays in a week or so.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 07/07/2025 11:20

Grin at guitar wanking.

ApricotCrush · 07/07/2025 16:58

Afternoon. I thought I’d posted yesterday but apparently not. Hmm

Terrible wind in the night (not me, outside Grin), it kept me awake. It’s been a nice day today though. We went into the nearby large town this morning to do the usual Poundland/Savers shop then sat outside this afternoon doing sudokus.

We watched Live Aid at 40 last night. I watched it all at the time, only going to get food and do jobs when the acts I wasn’t keen on were on. So interesting to see how technology has advanced in those years.

Hope everyone’s had a good day.

Evening wenches.

I think the lack of sleep from last week is properly catching up with me. Feel exhausted.

😁 at Helen’s sieved eggs and Apricot not being windy in the night. Don’t recall the mosquito sketch. That has reminded me about the comedy Jasper Carrot did with Robert Powell 😁

Meant to watch the Live Aid at 40 but I’ll download it instead. I remember watching it too. Think I’ll have my copy of Smash Hits from that time somewhere, most likely in the loft.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 07/07/2025 22:24

Evening all. Tiiiiiiiiiiiired. We watched Live Aid as well last night - can you imagine - £25 to go to it! (Wonder what that is in today's money.)

The mosquito sketch was all about trying to fall asleep and everytime you drift off you hear the mosquito buzzing in your ear, but when the light's on you can't find it. The punchline was about catching it in a glass against the wall, and waiting forit to start falling asleep, and then going 'buzzzz' at it to keep it awake too. Obviously it was much funnier than that.

Glad you're having a good break Apricot.

LetUsPrey · 08/07/2025 06:36

Morning wenches.

I can imagine that was very funny Helen 😁 According to the Bank of England calculator, £25 would be nearly £80 now but I doubt ticket prices rose in line with inflation. I suspect they’d be rather higher. Also I might not have worked it out correctly.

Not a great night’s sleep and awake early. Gave up on getting back to sleep so got up. Going to be a long day. Sunny though.

Have super days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 08/07/2025 12:13

Morning Afternoon all. I got bitten overnight and am now resisting the urge to be my best chimp impression by scratching my armpit constantly Hmm FFS. I have just found that my zapper works through my clothes though, so that's handy. I'd also been wondering for a while where I'd put it, and just noticed that it's right in front of me on the desk. 1/10 for observational skills for me.

Still tired, and working. They're patching the holes in our road at last, which is great but I've ended up abandoning my car at the start of the road because the entire thing is blocked and they're not great at moving (understandably when they're pumping out tarmac and grit).

Outside is cool and cloudy and windy. Apparently The Heat is on its way back though, and no more rain for a few weeks.

Afternoon. Another lovely day, still a bit windy though. This morning we went to visit our old caravan which has been moved to our sister site and is still for sale. I love the new one but still feel nostalgic for the old one.

That mozzie bite zapper looks interesting Helen. I’m not usually bothered by them, they obviously don’t find me edible.

We’re coming back tomorrow. DS will be pleased he doesn’t have to do the watering and deal with emergencies. The burglar alarm was going off the other day and he and DD had to pool the various keys they have to switch it off. Apparently there had been a power cut which set it off.

Have a lovely evening all.

Evening wenches.

I feel a bit rubbish. Only a bit of a cold or similar but waaahhhh I’ve just had two weeks off, I should be feeling all rested.

Bloody bitey things Helen. I can’t do without the After Bite pen and was a bit concerned we were going to run out of it on holiday.

Annoying about the burglar alarm Apricot but good they sorted it.

Definitely having an early night tonight.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 08/07/2025 22:28

Evening. I am also having an early night. So I need to log off.

The cloud cleared over and we now have the hot sunny weather back. Though it was definitely cooler this evening.

My internet is flakey, so who knows if this will post...
<crawls up to hayloft>

LetUsPrey · 09/07/2025 07:15

Morning wenches.

Checked the forecast for the weekend. 32 on Saturday. No, no thank you. Back to rain next week though.

My head hurts but I’m hoping the paracetamol does the trick, just a standard head congested headache luckily.

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 09/07/2025 18:50

Evening all. I made the mistake this morning of glancing at my freelance email before heading to BoringOfficeJob. Not quite 'Big mistake, massive.' but it meant I was running late and has to shoot out the door like a scalded cat buy the time I'd replied to a couple of emails.

Boring Office Job was all spreadsheets and proof reading, and a walk at lunchtime which was a civilised level of heat. Now I'm about to shoot out the door again <le sigh>

Hope everywench had a good day and Apricot is home safely - <paddington bear stare at headaches>

LetUsPrey · 09/07/2025 20:16

Evening wenches.

Could you stare a bit harder at my headache Helen please? Although don’t give yourself a headache by staring too hard. It was lucky I was on my early finish day as I’m not sure I’d have lasted until 5. Dramatic.

I think I need an even earlier night.

ApricotCrush · 09/07/2025 20:48

Evening. We’re back, not early enough to put a wash on but I’ve sorted one out to do tomorrow. It looks like a hot one so I’ll get as much done as I can and then go and sit in the shade. I can’t take the heat like I used to.

Hope your headache goes soon LetUs, it sounds like a bad one. Also hope Helen has finished rushing around and can have a relaxing evening.

Morning wenches.

Feel considerably better this morning, helped I think by actually getting back to sleep after waking up just after 5.

Cloudy so far here but can already tell it’s warmer.

<puts up extra garden parasols>
<replenishes sudoku puzzle books>

Have super days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 10/07/2025 07:50

Morning. It's all sunshiny here, so I'll need to be lugging water about the garden this evening. No new mozzie bites overnight, so that's good. This morning we have a particularly thick pigeon flying into windows. I've no idea what it thinks it's doing.

Glad to hear that LetUs has slept better, hope that apricot's washing goes well. <sends out search party for Fancy>

ApricotCrush · 10/07/2025 17:26

Afternoon. Very hot. I got a wash load on the line, did a food shop and did a sewing job for DS this morning and I've not done much this afternoon.

We get pigeons flying into the windows at certain times of the year. I think they see a reflection of trees and get confused. Or they're just thick.

Glad you feel better Letus.

Evening wenches.

I’m not terribly up on the facts of the ornithological world, but pigeons do come across as quite dim.

Far far too warm by the afternoon at work.

That sounds a day’s worth of stuff just in the morning Apricot.

Was going to leave the bedding out overnight on the line but I suspect the birds will use it as target practice so I’d better bring it in. What a thrill.

LetUsPrey · 11/07/2025 07:20

Morning wenches.

Is already bright and sunny and warm. Makes a change really that it’ll stay like this for the weekend 😁

<ensures steady supply of cool drinks and ice creams and lollies>

Have lovely days wenches.

SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 11/07/2025 08:46

Morning all. I've left something out on the line for a few days to be sun-bleached. It has been successfully used for target practise by the blue tits and will need a wash, but the mould spots are vanishing, so I'll take that as a win. I should probably do a bedding wash too. Eventually. It's already 20 degrees according to my car.

This morning's usual routine was disrupted by cat vom, so DS got taken to the bus by me in PJs still, but I Do Not Care. His GF is over this afternoon, and then he has a college social this evening, so there will be much to-ing and fro-ing.

Have a good day all <switches on air blade>

ApricotCrush · 11/07/2025 16:22

Afternoon. Thirty-one degrees here. I’m sure the washing is baked on the line but it’s too hot out there to go and fetch it in. We’re just not used to this, but it is lovely and I’m not complaining yet.

Hope everyone has been able to keep reasonably cool. What’s it like where you are WW?

OP posts:
SisterHelenoftheEternalCatchUp · 11/07/2025 20:45

Evening all 25 degrees inside in the north facing office. <wilts> My washing also baked on the line. Did lots of watering this evening.

DS is out at the college social and I'm waiting to go an pick him up - it's due to finish after his last bus home - he could get another one but that would involve waiting about until 11:30. I should have made him check how his other friends were getting home and suggested they coordinate, but ho hum. I will be out tomorrow in the heat <sobs> and need to go and make a packed lunch...

Hope everywench has had a good day and not melted!
