Being rich
Extra-marital affairs

please add to the list of things that, if mentioned in passing, are guaranteed to derail a thread.

Women who are happy being a Mrs.

Or taking their husbands surname. Or sharing finances. Don't be a mug.

Devilsmommy · 29/01/2025 14:56

Sahm's and working moms

PinkPootle75 · 29/01/2025 14:57

Grammar, then derails the Op initial thread

NeverHadHaveHas · 29/01/2025 14:57

Being a landlord.
Disagreeing with the VAT on school fees policy.

UPFs

Weddings that cost more than 50p.

I sometimes wonder whether my extreme cheapskate, junk food hating, fat people hating father is a Mumsnet poster.

Am I unreasonable to steal bin bags full of vegetables from the pick your own farm?

greenvoid · 29/01/2025 14:58

Not driving.

Iou5farthings · 29/01/2025 14:59

Not being able to feed a family of four for three days with one roasted chicken.

Such profligacy - you feed the rest of the family with the chicken which means you can make it last 5 days. In the meantime you prepare a massive salad which is so filling you don't need to eat again for at least a fortnight.

Ha! Yes. Families with step children who haven't bought a house large enough for every child to have their own ensuite for their weekends

Being over a size 8 if you're short.

Short and just crept up to a 12 now I'm in my mid forties... this one HURTS 🤣

I'm sure you look great. In the real world size 12 isn't big not even at 5ft.

Was going to say drinking more than one glass of wine a week, but starlight beat me to it! Always amazes me when someone starts a 'how much do you drink' thread, clearly worried about their alcohol consumption, and they get a stream of 'I don't' or 'a thimbleful every other Xmas'. If you don't drink, or barely drink, why post? It's like someone starting a 'does your dd do x/y/z' thread and people responding that they don't have a dd ...

Also, sharing your location with another adult - especially if one of them is your partner or adult child. That is known as stalking, helicoptering, an invasion of privacy. Even if both parties are happy with the arrangement and find it useful on the odd occasion they use it, it is NOT allowed.

Not charging your adult dcs rent for living at home even for a few weeks between uni and work is also forbidden. And will mean they have zero understanding of how the world works or how to manage their finances.

Also supporting your dcs financially at uni is not allowed. Even if you can afford to and if they're on a demanding course they must fit in a part-time job and pay their way.

I have fallen foul of the Mumsnet rules on several occasions.

Being over 65.
You are being unreasonable you stupid boomer, and you're probably a MIL and never did a day's work in your life.
You're a parasite for drawing your pension and you'll be needing someone to change your nappy soon... and I assume you're a right wing conservative Brexiteer.

But also you'll get accused of being ageist if you mention anyone over 65 in a slightly negative light.

Itdoesntmatteranyway · 29/01/2025 15:15

Not wanting to immediately call someone out on their behaviour and instead having the audacity to check with a cross section of people (eg mumsnet) if you could be overreacting; as well as considering the impact that ‘calling out’ might have.

And Mother in laws

Umbilicat · 29/01/2025 15:15

Women who do not instantly up sticks and leave their partner for crimes such as coughing too loudly or saying he doesn't want to watch The Wheel with you

Also true. Some strange age related prejudices.
Your 17 year old Child needs total protection but your 18 year old adult can just fuck off and sort themself out.

KeepSmiling89 · 29/01/2025 15:16

People posting ultrasound pictures and asking what gender their baby is instead of asking what sex they think their baby is.

dairydebris · 29/01/2025 15:16

Just actually talking to someone to try to figure out why they might have done what they did.

Itdoesntmatteranyway · 29/01/2025 15:17

Daring to share your location with other members of your family and having access to theirs even if this is totally consensual and not used for negative purposes.

Strugglingtocometoterms · 29/01/2025 15:17

Saying anything positive about your man (and you must be a simpering stupid 'handmaiden' if you do)

FasilBalti · 29/01/2025 15:18

drspouse · 29/01/2025 14:28

Scented bubble bath - everyone bangs on about how it gives you thrush.

Dried fruit.
Fruit of any sort. Full of sugar!
However, also diet drinks. Why does my T1 diabetic husband think we should have diet drinks in the house? Poison I tell you, sheer poison.

Making one meal for the family "and that's what's for dinner". Poor little DCs, being served things they don't like!

I've just run (ran?) myself a bath with some bubbles I got for Xmas, I guess I'll have thrush soon....

And yes, a bath at 3pm on a weekday afternoon. There's so much in that statement that will anger MN that I'd better duck out before I get lynched 😂

OP describes a situation or person who ticks almost all the boxes for neurodivergence. However the MN neurodivergence police will absolutely forbid anyone to suggest that the person in question could be ND in any way as it triggers some bizarre nerve of their own self identity. Especially if the person in question is a man, he has to be a 100% asshole garbage human being and you are never, ever allowed to suggest undiagnosed ND being a reason for male behaviour.
