Not wanting to breastfeed
Having a night away from your child before they’re one

Miaowzabella · 29/01/2025 14:48

Getting a dog from anywhere other than a rescue centre, because the advantages of bringing a possibly traumatised animal you know very little about into your home obviously trump any possible benefits of raising and training the dog yourself.

WarmSausageRoll · 29/01/2025 14:48

Am I too old to wear this?

Noperope · 29/01/2025 14:48

TVs in bedrooms

We're actually in the process of having an extension and DH asked if we were having a TV in the new bedroom. I instantly thought of MN and the disapproval so we're not having one 😂

Enough4me · 29/01/2025 14:49

The "be kind" mantra (which I'm happy isn't tolerated as I am pro reality and fairness).

BobbyPeruLikeTheCountry · 29/01/2025 14:49

Not leaving the bastard two minutes after posters told you that you must.

QueSyrahSyrah · 29/01/2025 14:49

@Williamclimbseverest and don't consider for a MOMENT having them until you're married to (but haven't taken the name of) a perfect DH with a Big Job and a six-figure income. You'll need a detached house with a garden, en-suites galore and a bedroom for every hypothetical future child too. You should own this, not rent, obvs.

Your parents should live nearby for daily help and support once the babies arrive, but his parents should live at least a 10 flight away, but never visit for more than a weekend.

If this hasn't all happened by 34, sorry, GAME OVER. Off to the MNers without Children board for you.

😂The poster literally just found out he's cheating an hour ago "WHY ARE YOU STILL WITH HIM?!?!"

NotaRealHousewife · 29/01/2025 14:51

@Starlight1984 I've got one in all of mine, I'm surprised I haven't been banned from MN!

But it’s irrelevant. Having autism is not an excuse for being an abusive prick.

Most of us with autism are perfectly nice, loving people. Most of us are far more likely to be abused than to be the abuser. Shitty behaviour is shitty behaviour regardless of the “reason”. If someone is autistic, it doesn’t mean their loved ones have to put up with being treated terribly.

Yes but many of the situations are ambiguous. It's often eccentric behaviour or something slightly odd that can easily be attributed to an inability to read social cues. Statistically there is a huge number of undiagnosed ND adults, compared to the generation of kids today who are far more likely to receive a diagnosis and treatment early in life. Pure logic dictates that some of those people are going to be muddling their way through life and they are consistently mocked MN while nobody is allowed to suggest there's another reason for their behaviour aside from pure malice, desperation or idiocy.

As an ND person myself, there's also something icky about the infantilisation of autistic people. People bend over backwards to paint them as having "pure hearts" or being unconditionally "kind and loving" people. I would argue ND people run the entire spectrum that NT people do as well. Some are wonderful individuals, some are manipulative dicks. The added layer of neurodivergence just increases the chances that their behaviour might be sufficiently unusual so it gets picked up and discussed more frequently.

Men can easily be ND and abusive. Nobody is insinuating that one person being like that implies every ND person is cold and evil. However it's factual that some traits of ND can lead to difficulties in social behaviour such as limerence, RSD, and issues with empathy. So why would it be taboo to suggest that those factors could potentially play a role in some people's behaviour? It's all speculative anyway, as is 90% of all the discourse on MN.

Very true darling.

Obviously dont forget to leave the bastard if he leaves his coffee mug on the side of your marble kitchen counter. Or dares to invite the mil over. Inconsiderate prick.

Starlight1984 · 29/01/2025 14:50

Wait, what's wrong with shower gels?!

You'll get jumped on over how useless they are and you're basically a mingger unless you use a bar of soap and a wash cloth.. (I agree soap is better)

Drinking more than one glass of wine a week = alcoholic.

But you can't have that glass of wine if you have kids in the house, in case you need to drive to hospital in an emergency.

WarmSausageRoll · 29/01/2025 14:52

Refusing therapy 😂

Really liking your husband.

Well, quite. Your bar must be at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.

QueSyrahSyrah · 29/01/2025 14:54

God how could I forget!

  • Being friends with any one of the opposite sex, no matter that they've been in your life 20 years longer than your DSpouse.
  • Exchanging polite conversation with any colleague of the opposite sex.
  • Lingering too long in proximity of any one of the opposite sex.

BobbyPeruLikeTheCountry · 29/01/2025 14:36

Well exactly, it's not like we're neglecting the kids so the dog can live large, but apparently getting them even a Jumbone or a £5 stocking is ridiculous.

Edited

Well I bet the critical people spend money on booze .. Pets deserve treats just as we do.
