Not working
Being rich
Extra-marital affairs

please add to the list of things that, if mentioned in passing, are guaranteed to derail a thread.

OP posts:

Oh I just thought of 2 more:

’discuss’ if anyone writes that in an opening post, game over.

Also ‘reader, I …’ doesn’t go down too well.

I've had American cheese and I don't think its any in way defendable (or cheese) 😁

Living rurally but not driving so you are totally dependant on your P who works 18 hours a day with a 3 hour commute.

‘Living rurally’ is a phrase I only see on MN

Gettingbysomehow · 29/01/2025 18:07

Mismatched sex drives. If you haven't got an exactly matched sex drive even post baby, illness disability or menopause you must get divorced immediately.

RobinEllacotStrike · 29/01/2025 18:09

Its not soap

Quicker to list what Mumsnet does tolerate.

It tolerates bullying OPs who are seeking a word of advice and encouragement. Giving those site members a good old kicking has become as predictable as playing whack-a-mole.

It positively encourages the infiltration of MRAs who instantly pounce on any thread about abuse - the more serious the better - to indulge in a bit of victim-blaming and protest that any objections are from 'man-haters'. They never miss one. This has been a noticeable trend for quite a few years.

It tolerates the more recent prevalence of inflammatory, right-wing threads, obviously intended to stoke division and ill-feeling, a large number of which are probably the work of bots.

Because this is tolerated more and more frequently, this site is slowly but surely going down the skids. A great many posters have gone - and it's obvious from the shift in posting style that they are not returning under other aliases but replaced by those who do have an appetite for that kind of content. It's not as if people who revel in the cesspools mentioned above can't find an abundance of them on Reddit. The nerve of women congragating on a site geared toward our demographic, where we can actually talk about the issues affecting us.

oops I lost the "quote"
Replying to the poster who asked "whats wrong with shower gel?"

JohnTheRevelator · 29/01/2025 18:17

Not being able to drive.
Not working full time.
Not having a cleaner.
Looking through your DH's/DC's phone for any reason whatsoever.
Stealing anything at all,even unintentionally.
Having a toilet brush.

Wonderfulstuff · 29/01/2025 18:29

Women who earn more than their husband and are absolutely fine with it.

I think our lot was one of the first few councils to start doing it, and they've got a long history of recycling round here, even got their own food waste eco energy plant, and all green waste is composted and used for municipal flower beds etc... Can't fault them on recycling. On the downside, the roads are terrible. 😂

Edited

The council estate in our town is the worst for potholes, its like driving on the moon. Think all councils have been having issues with this - certainly up north where we are its a common complaint. One enterprising local woman had a facebook page where you could report them and she made a spreadsheet which she would regularly remind the council about!

We're just salty that we lost the War of Independence, and we feel inferior in the shadow of your boundless confidence.

Losing the war was down to mad King George III. We'd probably have become a Commonwealth country with a better monarch on the throne.

I can see how the confidence would be a bit off-putting. I'm a New Yorker. We're both confident and have a touch of Dutch directness. It goes back to the original Dutch settlers of New Amsterdam. Yet I can't get a bite to eat without bumping into British tourists, so there must be some attraction.

Giving your child anything other than the top 3 most popular names.

Caterpillargirl23 · 29/01/2025 18:43

Not wearing a bikini on holiday 'you'll stand out more wearing a one piece'.

Allswellthatendswelll · 29/01/2025 18:49

Earning more than 100k- you cannot possibly have any issues, financial or otherwise if you earn over this magical amount

Being even remotely fat and daring to exist, let alone access healthcare for something unrelated to your weight as you are wasting the NHS's precious time

IVF as you should just accept it is God's will or adopt, according to a woman who has three children conceived first time.

Asking advice about your child and a developmentally normal bit of bad behaviour as their children never ever behaved like that ever. Your child is definitely ND.

Not potty training at 18 months

Mother in laws doing anything. Either they are overstepping or cannot be bothered.

Men in general

What does this mean, please?

It means everyone is welcome to post anything, but there’s a few posters who cry about the board being mean and not in keeping with the tone they like and approve of (which they don’t apply to other boards) and plop down statements which they don’t or can’t back up. Especially when it’s akin to posting about hating camping on the camping board but don’t articulate why and get annoyed when asked to expand.

Then when counter points are put across (as is the norm for a healthy debate) and evidence to back up said statements, especially ones that go against biological
fact which the majority of the board believe in, are asked for, they reply back with ‘no, it’s a PILE ON, can’t be arsed disputing your facts and science, you’re all just mean nasty cliquey buillies, check your TONE’, instead of just giving examples as to what they said in the first place.

In a nutshell.

Bumply · 29/01/2025 18:50

Using ‘unnecessary’ adjectives to describe a person in your anecdote

It will be deemed racist/sexist/ageist/sizeist whether it’s related to your point or not.

Gloriainextremis · 29/01/2025 17:52

How else are we supposed to get to work when we don't qualify for a bus pass yet?

Sorry if you’re not being serious, but it’s an observation of a common attitude on MN (the point of the thread), not my opinion!

MorrisZapp · 29/01/2025 18:58

Staying in a safe but dull marriage.

Leaving a safe but dull marriage after noticing someone else was attractive.

Both of these will ruin your kids childhood.

Astrabees · 29/01/2025 19:10

Letting your family play pass the parcel with your baby. Bottle feeding, enjoying anal. Wearing string bikini to the pool.

DottieMoon · 29/01/2025 19:11

Stepmums that used the term ‘bio mum’, can’t say I disagree

Not working full time and putting your few months old baby in nursery is unacceptable.

You are either a disgraceful dole dosing scrounger (draining the tax payer) or a gold digging doormat (draining the husband)

RosesAndHellebores · 29/01/2025 19:24

Pedantry. Well not always.

For example is this thread about Mnet Towers or Mnet Users? It is unclear and the response would be different.

That hasn't been my experience, not that I've ventured into that part of the site for some time. I had posted a few times years ago and was roundly told I was wrong and didn't know what I was talking about, so didn't bother with it after that. I read the recent thread in site stuff, or at least the start of it, and thought oh well, I shall continue to stay away then. I'm sure there are many more helpful, enthusiastic and friendly posters willing to have a debate on there than there are unpleasant posters though.

Princessfluffy · 29/01/2025 19:31

Spending more than £50 on your child at Xmas, although it's fine to spend thousands on random other days of the year on laptops, phones, musical instruments, new bikes, stuff for expensive hobbies etc

I’m sorry that was your experience but it’s not been mine. I’m fairly new to FWR though. I think actually the thread in site stuff backed up what I just said but people can choose where to post or not.

Thanks. When I ventured there it felt like I'd walked into that Monty Python 'Is this the right room for an argument?' sketch!
