Welcome!

subtitles, really? I can't remember the movies were subtitled, but it was the early 90s... This year's list of films seemed quite interesting, Juno is on at the moment. The fact that I won't be able to see it is another thing . I also used to watch very tacky comedies, because at least watching them in english gave them "a patina di rispettabilita'" like afriend once said.

Sputnik, ds was an incredibly early riser (I remember sitting by his cot holding his hand at 5 in the morning so that he'd fall back to sleep again. The idea of starting the day so early just threw me into desperation). He is now average, despite me and dh still hating to raise in the morning

I think someone told me the 30th

I remember watching the subtitles when I went to see the Full Monty. The translation was awful, I kept (audibly) gasping indignantly. I appreciate a lot of it is slang, but they didn't even try, metaphorical phrases were translated literally etc.

Brangelina · 28/05/2008 11:33

I must have really annoyed people with my tutting!

francagoestohollywood · 28/05/2008 11:49

lol

SATC ..Help jargon alert.( am SOOOO out of touch)
Cupcakes are easy peasy just use a victoria sandwich base/ mix and divide into cupcases take minutes to make. To ice use either butter icing or icing sugar and a drop of water. Made lots for dd birthday did baby ones as well.
Its got more muggy and cloudy here as well.
Thanks for Ikea info wanted to do a voucher thing for friend. That is if they do them.

francagoestohollywood · 28/05/2008 13:44

LOL @ "a patina di rispettabilita'" so so true!!!! remember watching SPEED in lingua originale and thinking it was brilliant and feeling so cosmopolitan !

did go nowhere, still in pjs! must dash once the dds wake up. (btw, I am only smug about it because I know that like you say sputnik in a few week I'll probably be here begging for help as both will refuse to sleep/eat/dress/obey etc, as did in the past! )

thanks rosa for 'recipe'. I might try to make them tomorrow and see. if it is reallyt as easy as you say I'll make loads for my bthday, otherwise it'll be waitrose (pippi's got tears in her eyes already at the thought of amount of money needed for a couple of cupcakes!)

nice to be here talking to you again... (it does clash with efficiency though )

PippiCalzelunghe · 28/05/2008 14:30

oh franca to answer your q. dd1 still at childminder, 9 to 1 now for 4 days a week, which seems a lot but it's half the hours she was before (not half the money though ). at least it gives me a minute to put toys away and collect my thoughts. it's good for her too as she gets bored with me after a while when I refuse to play 'picnic with teddys' for the millionth times .
she's desperate to start nursery I think.

any news with the house?

francagoestohollywood · 28/05/2008 14:43

nah, the house is still on bloody sale . I think the house market is crap in exeter, in that our house is "posh" in an area that it's not considered posh. (posh area is st leonards, with all the private schools and the state primary with outstanding ofsted effing report). I happen to think that our area was much better , varied and closer to high street. Our little school was lovely even if not outstanding... grrrr I could rant for ages.

ds was at nursery 3 times a week when dd was born, I couldn't have survived otherwise and it was a good balance for him I think. I'm sure actually as he was very happy. (just wanted to check I wasn't the only evil mother on here )

I had this fantasy of making delicious looking cupcakes with lovely soft pastel colour toppings, but then I didn't succeed. I'd go for waitrose

I think I watched speed in original language too. gosh keanu was FIT

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 28/05/2008 14:48

yes Keanu was majorly FIT!!! hence reason why I watched it a 100th times !!

we are all evil mothers!will let you know about cupcake result tomorrow and derren brown show which I am going to tonight (hope he doesn;t pick me to do smth on stage or I'll die!!)

must go dd1 woke up 'lagnosa'!

francagoestohollywood · 28/05/2008 14:54

who's derren brown?

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 28/05/2008 17:39

derren brown. things like this are generally not my cup of tea but he's good and it's my friend's birthday so we are all going.

PippiCalzelunghe · 29/05/2008 14:37

haven't done cupcakes.

show was fantastic. well spooky and mind blowing. my friend got called on stage so it's for sure that some of the things are not staged, albeit most must be.

went shopping today. I can fit my pre dd2 size!!! yuppie!!!

francagoestohollywood · 29/05/2008 22:17

you can fit already into your pre dd self? how very dare you? well done, honestly . It took me one yr both times to go back to my "usual" size.
Our friends from the uk arrived yesterday and I had to force myself not to burst into tears.
I wonder how went rosa's trip to gardaland

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 29/05/2008 22:17

how rosa's trip to gardaland went

OP posts:
Rosa · 30/05/2008 08:20

Pippi that is just not fair .What have you done to get slim again ????
Well Gardaland was fantastic dd and her cousins loved it . There was lots for the little ones to do and see ( even if some of them are a bit aged and tired !). It was pretty quiet in fact there were more little ones than big ones so when dh went on the big rides there were no queues. Having said that for the little rides we only waited 5 mins !We never made it to any of the shows as they wanted to do the rides but overall we did have a good day. DD on the way back was so good in the car as we hit traffic and she was great !
Fun for all - not on the Usa level by a long shot but its getting there.Have said to dh its Disneyland Paris next !!
Had humid weather and last night a massive thunderstorm here today its fresh and sunny. Poor Torino though looks terrible.

PippiCalzelunghe · 30/05/2008 10:31

I don't know how I've done it tbh. First time it took me a year to go back to my self and to my size. I am doing no diet and no excercise except running after the kids and running to ikea (maybe that's the secret). I was myself so surprised and pleased I went out and bought a new pair of denim ! Admittedly I have only time for breakfast and skip lunch sometimes... also rowing with dh can make one's appetite go, and there's quite a lot of that atm! but I wouldn't recommend that although it seems to be a staple of life with a newborn !
regardless for that I am happy and do not care, life not-pg is great! (sorry hh and rosa ).

gardaland sounds fab! a grown-up friend of mine always goes religiously. in pg we have the citta' della domenica, not quite as modern but for me the 'bestest' thing.

Rosa · 02/06/2008 08:30

SO you are all off enjoying the festa..Its been quiet here but warm !! In fact today is about 90% humidity and we are waiting for the storm .
Sputnik you internet shopping wizzard Letterbox deliver to Italy its £9 but I am earmarking stuff for Xmas. Have found them good in the past !
Am having a battle with farfalline and formiche .. Driving me mad. Farfalline cleaned out all cupboards all dry food in containers cannot find source. Ants are in the main wall of condo so just have to watch out for when they come in through cracks in the tiles or whatever.
Have a buon festa della republica !

Sputnik · 02/06/2008 09:23

I'm here Rosa, as DH works today anyway. But at least there's no traffic!

I have had farfalline, found these worked well, haven't seen any this year, touch wood.

Speaking of creepy crawlies, DH picked up the baby this morning as he was crawling along, only to realise he was about 40 cm away from a scorpion! Lucky escape as he is at that age where he picks up and examines any and every piece of crap he finds on the floor.

Rosa · 02/06/2008 13:33

They certainly look nicer than the Autan ones I have where they get stuck to them and die ! I thought that I got rid of them all last summer did massive clean out but I just can't work out where they are coming from.
I remember Scorpions in Umbria they came out of the woodwork when it rained used to scare the pants off tourists. Mind you I recall they gave a nasty nip. Talking of rain it is almsot here it is so close it is horrible. DD napping in pull up pants only and she is still sweating and put towel under sheet . Windows open but no breeze.

Sputnik · 02/06/2008 14:09

They get stuck to these ones too!
So do the scorpions not sting then? Someone said it was like a wasp. I had one drop on my head once but I flipped it off before I even knew what it was.
It's raining here....

Rosa · 02/06/2008 14:56

I was told that they bite and it is like a nasty sting/ mozzie bite. To put those after bite pens the ones that are ammonica ( sp) on in and lots of it. If the area gets very red and spreads then to go to chemist for a stronger cream or whatever. It is getting heavier ...every 10 paces and you cannot breathe in deeply kind of muggy yuck I hate Venice like this !

Sputnik · 02/06/2008 15:41

So they just look scary then!
Good, because we often find them this time of year and in the autumn.

Rosa · 02/06/2008 18:04

I used to drop phone directories on them and jump on them !!! Thankfully I only met a couple !
It has rained within 2 km of here but not here!
