Hi all! Back in Rome-WHATS WITH THE WEATHER!!!!!!!!!!!! Have had a skim through what have missed and see you have all had a big weather discussion so sorry to bring up again but really !!!!
Lovely time in (cold) UK, put on loads of weight just in the time have been there, dont think my body can cope with good old English stodge (or perhaps is just vast quantities) . So makes me feel v jealous when read you are pre dd2 size pippi . Have decided am going to have to lose bit of weight, any advice on an Italian food friendly diet that will fill me up and won't make me fell too deprived?? Or am I asking too much and is pain and deprival an essential element of losing weight?
Been in Viareggio for 4 days with my best mate from the UK who was over with fiance and kids. As soon as day and a half rain stopped they insisted we braved the beach!. Black clouds, wind and needless to say most of beaches closed. Found one open where when I shamefacedly asked how much, told us he couldnt take money from us, the display of courage we were showing was enough for him
Sputnik, yes we went to the faggeto in Soriano quite a few times last summer, is so lovely.

Rosa · 02/06/2008 19:08

Welcome back Gio ..Glad you had a good time did you do lots of shopping as well as eating ??? Hate to say it but it hasn't rained here and its a lovely evening ( supposed to rain all day tom ......)
Diet I lots loads with weight watchers found it good and Italian friendly. Think they have closed down now in Italy but you can do on line. Its easier than you think !

gio71 · 02/06/2008 19:32

went a bit shopping mad which was obviously stupid buying clothes as will be too big after have done my super diet
will have a look at weight watchers Rosa thanks.
am thinking about getting a pinguino this estate, is it def better with than without? have held off until now as am determined that when we eventually move i want proper full on air con installed (dp not keen but tough - its my office!). have held off getting a pinguino for this reason but as moving isnt imminent and summer is approaching am reconsidering....

francagoestohollywood · 02/06/2008 21:28

ciao! gio, welcome back glad you had a lovely time in the UK. Our friends from Exeter came to visit with their dc and it was so lovely to see them.

Rosa, I'm now getting curious about gardaland. I think I should start nagging dh to take us.

I think we are having the first mosquitos of the summer !

any news on your house sale yet Franca?

Rosa · 03/06/2008 07:27

Franca if you are going to go look on the web site and try to go on the bassa days as I think Gardaland in a really hot day and queues would be hell ! I think your dc would really get lots out of it as they are that bit older . Cousin is 6 ( 7 this summer) and she went on some of the bigger rides with parents - It is a fun day out and there is a free shuttle from Peschiera station if coming by train .
Gio we have a 'portable ' ac but the fan bit that sits on the window sill is bulky and big I had to have a wooden platform made for it. I will not be able to lift it up there this summer . I wish I had got one with a tube thing that I could shove out the window far more logical.
As for mozzies Franca you have been lucky !!!

francagoestohollywood · 03/06/2008 08:09

Gio, thanks, no, no news on the house sale. Lots of interest, lots of people going twice etc, but no offers. Dh is going to Exeter in 2 weeks time for work again, and meeting the agents again . It is a beautiful house, it should go at some stage, I hope...

Rosa, yes, good to know that it is possible going by train. I think the dc would love it!
Have you booked the flights yet?

I'm quite lucky with the mosquitos, as they don't seem to target me that much. Ot at least I'm just used to them, after being eaten alive in my childhood

Should get scan date today as having to go private. Clinc waiting for docs dates In public hosp they wanted to give me 11 July at 12.30 . Dh working , SIL busy as her dc are on holiday. Nonna wont keep DD over meal time so am stuffed. If fed dd at 11.30 then out of house at 12.00 but what do I do with her for 30 mins whilst they do it ?? She won't sit in her buggy for that long .Dh said he could try and get there but if he gets a disposition or something then can't guarantee it. AHHH Asked for another date and they said I have to accept this or nothing. Also they said 20 week scan could be done as late as 23 weeks I would rather know asap if any problems ..Also dd2 is bigger than average so far so am hoping everything formed by 20 weeks.
I have mozzie nets up on every window I can and will be putting another one up later as have given up waiting for dh its only been 3 weeks since I asked. The tigre are the worst I think . But I hate the lot of them.

francagoestohollywood · 03/06/2008 09:25

Rosa, I can't believe nonna wouldn't still look after dd at meal times ! Is she too old?
And i agree, I'd have the scan at 20 weeks rather than 23.

PippiCalzelunghe · 03/06/2008 10:46

Rosa I took dd with me every time. she sat and watched. how old is dd1 again?

Rosa · 03/06/2008 12:32

dd1 is 2.4 nearly. I would have no problem if going to doc and having normal scan / check up etc as she could potter / draw etc but you are in there for 20 mins max and only a few mins on the lettino having scan . WIth his one its about 30 mins. Nonna will keep dd outside and play with her ( as she has done In the past) but she wont come into our house , give her lunch and watch tv / play til I get back. She is paranoid about something happening to her if we were not there. When she was smaller if I went to supermarket she wouldn't give her dry bread / biscuit incase she choked. I would be ending 21 going into 22 on 11 July ..and I want it done in 20 !! No space even in Mestre fgs. I will try again and see what happens .
Did Brang go to Gay Paris ??

PippiCalzelunghe · 03/06/2008 12:38

I see. you're right, half an hour stearing at an incomprehensible screen is too much for everyone but the parents.

Rosa · 03/06/2008 13:39

Booked 1 July at 20 weeks for the bellezza of Eu125! And at 9.00am so will be able to take dd and nonna can keep her amused in the disney store which is right nearby !( Dd will have had breakfast so no need to feed) Also dh can start work at 9.45 on that day so he can come too which is even better its the same doc that did dd1 and we had a laugh even finding dd when he was doing his calculations and he let us loose with the thingy ! Oh am relieved. Now back to look for flights but they were HIGH last time I looked.

PippiCalzelunghe · 03/06/2008 13:53

GREAT!!!

francagoestohollywood · 03/06/2008 13:58

glad you sorted the scan out rosa

PippiCalzelunghe · 03/06/2008 14:06

Franca I have succombed and ordered the cupcakes! I had this visionn of doing everything on my own...now is all bought! Does it mean I am clever or lazy????!!!

francagoestohollywood · 03/06/2008 14:12

It means you have a two year old and a newborn . I think we can't be superwoman the whole time, and waitrose is a safe bet . Now, lets put it this way, you treated yourself to some yummie cakes, but I'm sure you'll make one for dd's third birthday.
Anyway, if you want to bake something easy peasy and very nice go on recipes here, look for marslady lemon drizzle cake, it's quick and delicious. Mind you, I had lemons from salina, that helped . You can make it for breakfast and treat yourself to some birthday indulgence breakfast feast. I'm now hungry

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 03/06/2008 14:30

didn't go for waiitrose. went for this instead as cheaper and much more glam !

off searching for marslady's recipe.

Rosa · 03/06/2008 15:24

They look yummy if it wasn't so hot I would cook some Bet you could pass them off as home made as they have that posh home made look ( not all sloping to one side as mine do as I forgot to turn them round in the oven !) ...Dd loves them- she licks teh icing off and half bites the cake ( best she eats in the bath !!!) I use the lemon drizzle for orange drizzle as well.
Whats the weather forecast for this wekend for your party pippi ??
DD is hot think we will go for an icecream also as Disney channel have changed the programs and seems like all lazy town which I hate.

Sputnik · 03/06/2008 16:59

Glad you sorted your scan Rosa

Shut up about cakes you lot
I am on a renewed dieting wave as of today. I have shifted some of my 10kgs of baby weight but not nearly enough. I bought a load of clothes in my old size, but lots of them are tighter than I would like.

Welcome back Gio, wacky weather, eh? There was a day last week when it was really hot, was probably near 40 in Rome! I am secretly enjoying the cool though, as long as it isn't raining.

Rosa · 03/06/2008 18:00

Sputnik and Gio could have a weight loss challenge in Lazio !!!!
Give me a year or so probably more as will be bfeeding and I will be piss*d off with my size.As I put on when bf !

gio71 · 03/06/2008 18:02

Good news re scan Rosa.
Cakes look gorgeous Pippi, I made the mistake of clicking on the link which led me directly afterwards to the kitchen to finish up the ciambellone . I am weak!!! But now at least we only have fette bloody biscottate in.
marslady's recipe is lovely Pippi by the way. Oh why is nice food fattening

PippiCalzelunghe · 03/06/2008 20:06

must try this lemon drizzle... I couldn't believe it how famous it is!

ah franca I forgot to mention DD1 is an 'accanita' fan di Peppa Pig now! She is just playing with 'the school'. Dh loves it too, he fancies himself a bit of a daddy pig! !

francagoestohollywood · 03/06/2008 22:14

Pippi the cakes look delicious (salivates)

Rosa, I've never lost a gram while breastfeeding.
I am a slender person, but I think I've put on some weight recently. The fact is that I keep 'seeing" myself with my pre pregnancy body, and I still fancy clothes aimed at younger (and firmer) bodies .

Pippi, peppa pig is in my list of fav cartoons. maisy, peppa, the wonderpets and now charlie and lola, which is actually very sweet. We are also collecting lady oscar, but I think we might have missed n. 9

Sputnik · 04/06/2008 09:35

I am still breastfeeding and really struggling to lose weight, I lose a bit then turn around and put it al back on again. Oh well.

I have never seen Peppa Pig, perhaps we should check it out.
