Welcome!

francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2008 13:42

I suppose I could do that, I even have the mitico proficiency...

Brangelina · 09/06/2008 13:47

Well then, job found!

Try canvassing around local nidi and maybe materne private to see if there would be any takers. You'd need to formulate a programme, but you know what kind of things interest children anyway so that won't be a problem. If you need material I have plenty of books/DVDs/CDs with songs. I think there's even a website you can download teaching material from.

Brangelina · 09/06/2008 13:49

And then, when it all takes off and you need to expand I'll invest in some shares and we can take it to the rest of Italy

francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2008 13:51

lol! I think the high majority of private nidi already offer the service in Milan... I need investigating.... I can stick them in front of peppa pig for the whole hr...

OP posts:
Brangelina · 09/06/2008 13:55

No, you can borrow my DD's Peppa Pig train and make up a story.

I've seen some of those services as advertised, most of them are just nursery rhymes and songs. You could offer something different, like maybe chocolate rice crispies together all in English. There has to be a different angle.

francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2008 14:00

I suppose it depends on the age of the children. Mine had English twice a week in the posh private scuola materna.
Btw, I accepted dd's place at scuola materna comunale, I now have to find a real English person to come and chat to them in english.

OP posts:
Brangelina · 09/06/2008 14:21

You could do a teatrino in inglese, you know, make children make up stories and dress up. More fun than watching a DVD imo.

So you decided for the closer option. That's good, it makes it easier for you if/when you do work as well.

Do you have a start date? I've been trying to call my DD's hypothetical school to find out hers (and when I have to hand in the ISEE for the mensa) but no one's been answering the phone. Surely it's not vacanze scolastiche yet?

got to rush off to the bank now, my card has just been refused on the internet and I need to know why....

francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2008 14:26

yes, teatrino sounds like a lovely idea. Are you thinking of children nido's age (1-3) or scuola materna?

I don't know when it'll start. I have a meeting next week with the teachers and new parents.

I'm leaving in ten mins, pick the dc up go to the park.

Tosa here .....Franca I have some tumbletots videos that have action songs on them if that helps. Should it get off the ground. There is a lady teaching English in nipotinas school ( asilo) she comes in 2 hrs a week and nipotina has learned a bit . Friend told me there is a sale on in a bag shop in Venice ( a good one) its closing down I want to go but have dd - Its not a good idea as its not that big - AHHH - Typical !

Brangelina · 09/06/2008 15:56

Rosa - leave DD with the portinaia, bag sale is too good to miss

I just got back from the bank, it appears that today is national credit card not working day and they can do nothing about it. On the way back to console myself I bought some silver wedgies. There were also some nice Puma slip on trainer things but alas were too tight, although I may yet persuade myself to go back for them as they too were a bargain. At least I still get some satisfaction from shoe shopping, my feet are just about the only non-flabby part of me nowadays[actually no, self pitying emoticon instead]

Franca - you could do both, even tiny tots like dressing up. I know in DD's nido they do a lot of teatrino, DD knows all her parts off by heart and recites them in her sleep.

Rosa · 09/06/2008 18:52

DOn't have a portinaia... But might call friend for a coffee tom morning her office is near the shop and then run inside and leave her there with dd. Good for you to retail shoe shop it does wonders for the soul !! I am living in my birkenstocks- they are the papillion ones traditional style but in pink / black swirls- the pink and black is my aim at fashion . Thing is they are so comfy that I can't be bothered to wear anything else!
I used dh credit card this morning to buy bed guards and potty in the Uk - I spent over Eu50 and he diddn't get a sms as he usually does but I have the confirmation ! ( waits for message from Uk store to say card refused ) Mind you when I start spending it tends to be Uk sites before we go up and when we are there and the bank cancels his card ..They should be used to me by now !!!!!

gio71 · 09/06/2008 19:40

Brange I recruit for UK, currently do healthcare sector but have done finance, legal and various public sector professions in my time, feel free to give me a shout if want help with English CV-are you thinking of moving on?
Franca think the nido franchise idea is fab, when its a massive success you could get people working doing it for you, then with all your masses of confidence you will then have as has been such a success you could set up the service for pregnant women job done!
Brange had issues with my card as well today.

francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2008 21:04

lol, you are all very entrepreneurial... (is it a word?). I'll give it a thought. I need loads of self confidence though, which sadly I don't have. But I've been working on it.

OP posts:
Brangelina · 10/06/2008 10:47

Franca, you need someone to work alongside you at least at the beginning to spur you on and to bounce ideas off. I understand about the self confidence bit, I too have my shy moments and sometimes wonder if I'm up to the task in hand, but then what helps me is I remember all the times I've succeeded in doing something or managed to solve a problem, even when I wasn't techically/academically/professionally equipped to do so.

Does your lack of confidence stem from not having followed a career path or a feeling of never having achieved anything in the workplace? These reasons are invalid, think about all the positive points. You have lots of things going for you, not least your excellent grasp of English, which is no mean feat. I used to have to interview people for jobs where English was required and the candidates who could actually sustain a fluent conversation I could count on one hand, and they were still nowhere near the level you have. You also went and lived in a foreign country, dealt with local bureaucracy and negotiated the social minefield. All this is a lot more than the average italiano di classe media has ever achieved.

Brangelina · 10/06/2008 10:53

Gio, that's very interesting. I'm not looking into moving on at the moment, but it might be something I'd consider in the future, depending on how my current role develops. Do you ever place people in continental Europe or is it all UK?

Thanks for the offer re help on my CV, ditto here should you ever need an Italian one, not that you're likely to be wanting to work for an Italian co any time soon. A friend of mine worked for a famous headhunting firm in Roma and earned 1,6 milioni al mese. OK, it was a few years ago, but I can't imagine the salary would have risen that much since.

francagoestohollywood · 10/06/2008 11:12

Well, I seem to have been born without self confidence. But I was more self confident at school. I knew I was pretty good at some things (useless things, like literature or history...). But yes, my lack of self confidence now stems from not having "really" worked for a long time and from not having achieved much.
I know I have some kudos, but I'm in a vicious circle of insecurity, too many ideas, lack of ideas on how practically I can follow my ideas, etc etc etc.

OP posts:
Brangelina · 10/06/2008 11:25

Yes, me too. I have too many ideas but not enough passion/energy/whatever to follow most of them through. You need someone to work with you, going it alone is oftn quite demoralising. Do you not have any friends who are in the same situation you are who might be interested?

francagoestohollywood · 10/06/2008 11:39

nah, they are all in full time jobs. Apart from two sahms who enjoy their condition.

OP posts:
Rosa · 10/06/2008 14:07

Oh I have all this to come when the dd's get older...I must do something for me as otherwise I will rot. I looked into doing a english playgroup and fell at the first hurdle- Not qualified for that not even if I employed nursery staff. Plus the cost of finding something or even renting somewhere and getting it a norma is amazing. Oh for the British Village halls.
Made it to the bag sale had some good classic stuff and some 'The Bridge' but could not justify buying it . Nearly bought a Lacoste trendy bag for nipotina English but daren't take the risk incase they are passe in the Uk now !!!

Sputnik · 10/06/2008 14:31

You don't come over as lacking in self-confidence Franca

I am in a bit of a rut workwise. I have my own internet services company doing websites etc, but have done virtually nothing since before DS was born, it's all languishing really and I lack the enthusiasm I once had for it.

I've toyed with the idea of an online business as I could do all the site stuff myself. Nothing really inspires me though.

Trouble is, just about anything you end up doing every day gets hum drum. I used to be a professional beekeeper, everyone thinks "oh, cool" but in reality it was backbreaking, and the selling part was quite demoralising.

I am going to review my options in october when DS starts at nursery

Sputnik · 10/06/2008 14:33

Just read my post over, I have a bad attitude don't I

Hi Rosa

Rosa · 10/06/2008 14:54

Sputnik you have what is being called motherhood and it hits all of us. If I ever get my act together you can build my website for me as have said so many time with all this Murano glass to hand I should start something and keep the brain active.
I was a regional manager with a team of staff- budgets, sales, pr,. I worked damm hard but there was no way that I could keep it all up when I got pg also the company changed a fair bit and it was a no win situation. I supported dh and I for years bef we got married and I think I sort of got burnt out along the way. Now I want to be a mum but have money ( don't we all???) . I hate sales as well btw unless I believe in the product not easy nowadays.I did market research for 1 day once I was embarrassed!!!
AM sure that things will turn round , I think we all just need to find what it is we are really looking for and if my crystal ball worked I would send it round
