Welcome!

I still remember the songs from Grease. BUT as I was 9 and didn't really speak english, it's just a sequence of sounds, rather than actual words!

OP posts:
Brangelina · 09/06/2008 10:08

Oh, wasn't it translated into Italian? Or is it only the theatre show where the songs are in Italian (vaguely remember Lorella Cuccarini songing something).

You were only 9? I was a bit older.

Sputnik · 09/06/2008 10:18

LOL Franca, I remember going to see a young and fresh Harrison Ford in the first Star Wars! [ancient]

Re shoes I think the last time I wore heels I was 18. Could never get the hang of them, I am clumsy and like to walk fast. I have a problem with shoes actually. I love boots and in summer I wear sandals. I have nothing in between. My sandals are on their 3rd summer, I would buy new ones if I could find any I like, but I can't.

DS is snotty, hot-cheeked and runny-bottomed, won't eat (apart from bf), but cheerful so far today.

Sputnik · 09/06/2008 10:21

Oh I see you are probably nearly as ancient as me then .
Grease twice here too. Never fancied Luke Skywalker though. Han Solo for me

francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2008 10:50

Hot-cheeked and runny bottomed, sounds like teething. Ot a virus . That's standard answer, isn't it?

Brangelina, I think the songs (Grease) were in English even if the film was dubbed. Plus I had the colonna sonora and it was def in English.
I was born in 1970, so that makes me, 8sh when star wars came out here. That made me more into blond men . Re watching the star wars movies as a teenager I converted to Harrison Ford (remember the movie Witness? How bloody attractive was he in that one?)

Rant: have just hovered the whole house and washed the floors and I feel quite fed up. I want a job, but I lack any self confidence to go and look for it, plus I don't even know where to start. I'd love to do some volunteering job. I was really deflated last night when I got the confirmation that the organization which interested me is actually a catholic pro life thingy

OP posts:
Brangelina · 09/06/2008 11:04

I don't blame you, I hate washing floors too.

I don't know about volontariato, when I looked into it (OK, I was also working ft but still), there was only ambulanza. Everything else seems to be church related.

Can you not get involved with your DC's school, maybe offer an English session once a week? Actually no, that's a crap idea. It was something I'd thought of doing a while back but scrapped the idea.

How about starting something up yourself? There are so many services in the UK that don't exist here, maybe some of them would work?

Other than that you could go and be a bilingual secretary just to get your confidence back initially, but the hours will be full time, so that's probably no good to you either, or is it?

Brangelina · 09/06/2008 11:04

What do you like doing?

francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2008 11:10

I don't have a clue of what I'd like to be doing, crapppppp crapppp. I'm a lazy cow.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2008 11:12

I think I should go and talk to someone. Do I trust agenzie interinali or do they just get the piss?

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2008 11:12

take the piss

OP posts:
Brangelina · 09/06/2008 11:19

You can try the agenzie, although the ones around here all seem to have manual jobs like magazziniere or if office jobs it's either contabilità or receptionist.

I'd go and have a chat at the very least, if nothing else you'll have an idea of what's around. Have you got a CV prepared? I'd make up some vague fictitious employment in the UK. They're never going to check or if you prefer you can say you worked freelance. That should impress anyone straight into a job.

francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2008 11:22

lol, I like you Brangelina

OP posts:
Brangelina · 09/06/2008 11:24

How do you think I got some of my old flash jobs?

If you need any help with the CV I'm quite good at doing them in Italian (not so good in English, or so I foundto my chagrin the last time I needed one)

francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2008 11:27

yes, will shout for help with the cv.
Of course I'd love to work in a libreria, in a proper one, but proper bookshops don't exist anymore or certainly don't hire new staff. Even the commessi at feltrinelli now look younger than 21 and massively bored

OP posts:
Brangelina · 09/06/2008 11:37

Nooo, they only want adolescents so they can hire with contratto formazione and pay peanuts. Not saying you're old or anything but you (and I) are a bit past the age limit on that.

You could always open a secondhand bookshop, perhaps a tema. I think there is/was one su Navigli but it wasn't terribly inspiring and I never saw anyone buy. Yours could always have an internet sales service on the side. Either that or you go into internet sales full stop, so you save on outlest costs. You could always do a franchise - amazon doesn't have an Italian branch for instance....

I once thought about doing my own thing when I was in between jobs so went through all of the same thought processes.

You could always open a non Catholic scuola materna in Monza

gio71 · 09/06/2008 12:10

franca, feel free to give me a shout if you want any help with cv (am recruitment consultant)
do you fancy sales? if so there is a home based sales job I know about, comission only but may be worth a thought?

Rosa · 09/06/2008 12:43

Gio / Brang I shall be calling in you when I eventually decide to go back to work . I found the Raid Night and day in the shop today so I will stick it on later and hopefully it will kill the b*tard that bit dd . Thankfully only on arm but it is red and nasty.
Sputnik hope your ds feels better soon poor love could be teeth but then you never know. Dd the other day said sore tummy ( she needed to poo still have a block there!) great breakthrough as it makes it easier when they are ill.
Franca what about nursery assistant the ones in the private nursery here are not qualified and they work part time- they just help out.
Have to go and sign contract for dd nursery / nido the one up to 3yrs she starts in Sept ...Hurrah she got a place !

gio71 · 09/06/2008 13:14

Raid night and Day is good Rosa, good luck with it
Any idea what kind of volunteer work you would like to do Franca?
Brange could do your CV in Italian and I could do it in English so between us you're covered!
Oh and defintely expand on the truth, everyone does and noone will call the UK
Hope ds feels better soon Sputnik

Brangelina · 09/06/2008 13:23

Gio, do you recruit for UK or Italy? I probably need my English CV tweaking as it's basically a bad translation of my Italian one which, on the contrary, is quite flash. What sector do you recruit for?

Rosa, good luck with that Raid stuff, I can't go anywhere near it as can't bear the smell, so hopefully that means it's effective against mozzie beasts.

francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2008 13:28

Oh, thanks, you are all lovely .

Gio, what do you mean with home sales job? I'm not sure I'm that good at selling stuff. Before I started to work in pr (squillons of yrs ago) I worked for 1 month "selling" computer courses on the phone and was really really bad .
Rosa, that sounds like a good idea (at times I even contemplate training to become a primary teacher). and hurrah for having a place for dd, she'll love it, I'm sure .

Now, I kept the windows open the whole morning, the floors are nice and clean, tell me, why -after having left the house for a coffee with friend, I come back to a house that smells like an old all star shoe?

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2008 13:33

Gio, I'd love to work in an organization helping pregnant women in difficulty. Not sure there's anything like this in Milan. The only org I stumbled across is a centro di aiuto alla vita, which appears to be a pro life organization. I'm not religious and pro choice, so I don't think it'd be an ideal place for me.

Do I sound all over the place? , cause I am

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 09/06/2008 13:34

i am pro choice

OP posts:
Brangelina · 09/06/2008 13:38

Tosa, I missed that bit about your DD getting a place in nido. Great stuff, she'll love it I'm sure. Mine complains if she has to stay home all day with me.

I was exactly the same as you Franca with the telesales. I used to stutter and say errrr an awful lot. Sometimes someone would take pity on me and buy something, but it was very rare.

Brangelina · 09/06/2008 13:40

I meant Rosa, I wasn't calling you tusa, honest.

Franca you can set up an English franchise thing where you go to nidi a couple of times a week and have an "English hour". Then lots of places would be able to boast the bilingue aspect. How about that?
