Rain holding off in Venice ( just) have wedding this pm and have just been and got dh and my shoes soled in rubber as they were both leather and I had visions of us both skating / slipping as the marble and leather soles and a bit of rain water are a combination of disaster!
Ladies you will please need to send me your e mail addresses again as they have gone forever. DH sent me a massive bunch of flowers this morning I wonder why ...He was working on my laptop until midnight lastnight mmmmmm.
Sputnik get listing those sites that send - I use Amazon , have used Grobag but certainly no clothes sites. AM impressed for any larger ladies I bought stuff from Simply Be ( sze14 upwards) ok had it sent to the Uk but it is reasonable in cost ..Might not be trendy enough for you guys...But then again you are all skinny beans !!!!!

I'm not 100% sure about doing the course, it is very demanding, and, as I said, I'm scared (as I've never had to do it before) to loose control of my family unit. As you know I have no qualms about leaving the dc at nursery/school, but I like to be the one who picks them up, ferries them around etc. And I'm not sure whether dh could do it. And Mary Poppins is very hard to find.

I used to buy on line quite regularly when in the UK, mostly because I wasn't that excited by the Exeter shopping scene. I used Amazon quite a lot as well. There is an american bookshop and an English bookshop in Milan + a feltrinelli international and mondadori. But maybe amazon is more convinient for dvds. I don't know is it safe to buy on line in Italy??? I miss topshop.

Nursery, I'm still undecided, also because the council hasn't issued the liste definitive. Ideologically also I'm for going public, but still... the dc's teachers are really lovely... gosh I'm getting boring.

Topshop deliver to Italy for £5, not bad. Figleaves is quite cheap delivery too. Talking of which, can any of you tell me why there are no bra cup sizes in Italy?

Whitestuff (my current clothing store of choice) is £8. Boden are £6 IIRC. For mat wear Jojomamanbebe are reasonable (Blooming Marvellous charge £25!!!!!)

Also, if you're after grobags, this Italian site has them, and other stuff too.

Buying online is as safe here as anywhere really I'd say, if you trust the site then go for it. I've never had problems with either delivery or returning stuff (actually it's one of my favourite hobbies )

Lol at bra cup sizes. Mind you, the commesse in old fashion negozi di intimo/mercerie (not those in chainshops) are usually able to give you the right bra by just looking at you, ime.
I might try the topshop website out then.... i miss it.

Ah, that is obviously where I'm going wrong. I have never dared go into one of those shops.

Oh I know, it requires bravery. I once decided I deserved a nice bra and entered a posh shop in Milan's city centre (the sales were on, I must point out). The owner was able to tell my right size with one glance, but she seemed keen on the "velina" effect. I wasn't. It was a battle of wills.

I agree about the lack of cup sizes, and when there are they only go up to a C. I remember having an argument with a shop assistant in Coin who insisted that there was no point in a D cup and that I needed a quarta, even when I showed her that my boobs were falling out from underneath. I used to shop in M&S for bras but find that lately their collections are just so staid and matronly. I am now reduced to buying Wonderbras as they're the only things available in a D cup in the local Rinascente.

Interesting info re the websites. I must admit to being wary about stuff sent here as I've had so many parcels "mislaid" (ie postie's wife is probably wearing my stuff) by Poste Italiane, so unless I can get signed for delivery I tend to avoid it. Do these sites do signed for or do they use a courier? So far I've always had stuff sent to the UK, usually to coincide with people's trips out here.

I will email you Rosa as soon as I can get to my other computer. That way you can send us pics of your little one when she arrives.

Of course I go into those shops, I'm Italian after all , I'm used to grumpy commesse . Actually, I also remember times when commesse were kind and incredibly knowledgeable. There is still a small number of them... Actually in milan there is a handful of boutiques that I find are still worth to brave, despite the commesse.

having said that I should stop wasting time on mn and go to my local fruttivendolo. Actually they are very nice and the children like them.

the commesse in naples are sooooo pushy, don't allow you to touch anything, i just cannot face them, and they also always look me up and down because i am dressed all'inglese...

Hto, my friend who is from Benevento is too scared to go shopping in Napoli unless at a market. And to think she is very brash and confident with shop assistants in Milan, so the ones in Napoli must be withering!

You know, I reckon (ever the optimist) that weather forecasters always predict the worst so they won't get berated for not warning people about unexpected bouts of grim weather and flash floods.

I'd take your shorts anyway. It isn't cold here (or at least, not by UK standards) so unless they're tiny hot pants you could probably wear them anyway. I'd just take a light cardi/hoodie and a pack-away cagoule thing jsut in case.
