Welcome!

You might be all right then, it'd be unusual for the bad weather to stick for such a long time... (hopeful emoticon).
We have friends visiting from the UK at the end of the month and I'd be gutted if it was raining the whole time.

Also as Brangelina said, it might be cloudy and rainy, but it doesn't get too cold.

Report back by the end of the week, we'll update you

Nonna leaving today here too.

Can I ask you guys if you have any recommendations for holidays in Puglia? I've just decided I'd like to go to Puglia (DP doesn't know yet and might disagree since he'll have to do all the driving) and was thinking of a campsite type place to keep costs down (DP'sDS is supposed to be coming with us and he now costs like an adult). I've looked at a few on the internet but it's hard to tell what they're really like from just the photos. Anyone been somewhere nice? TIA

francagoestohollywood · 20/05/2008 12:55

Not really. I remember seeing campings nr Otranto by the sea and they looked very nice.
I can ask friends who went last yr for recommendations.

OP posts:
Brangelina · 20/05/2008 12:57

Please.

A couple I'm looking at are near Otranto. Are the beaches sandy there or is it scoglie? You can't really tell from the pics.

francagoestohollywood · 20/05/2008 13:21

The beaches around Otranto are sandy with dunes etc if I remember wall. They are usually backed by bosco di pini marini

hotHELL · 20/05/2008 13:50

we thought of this at one point, though it is not clear how far the actual campsite is from the beach.

when would you go bran?

francagoestohollywood · 20/05/2008 14:04

looks beautiful!

ok, will someone tell me to go and tidy up???

OP posts:
Brangelina · 20/05/2008 14:37

That looks interesting Hot, although it does seem quite a way from the beach. Interesting website too, I shall browse through later.

We're thinking of doing the last 2 weeks in August, which is a bummer because it's 1 week alta stagione and 1 week media stagione. Unfortunately we can't overlap into Sept because of SS school and DD's inserimento (whenever that is - is it normal that the school doesn't get in touch to let you know?).

I have lots of shopping to do Franca, but the menacing grey clouds outside my window are telling me to stay in....

francagoestohollywood · 20/05/2008 14:42

The liste definitive for the Milanese scuole materne aren't even out yet... they'll get in touch early september I think bran for the inserimento...

OP posts:
Brangelina · 20/05/2008 14:56

So if you find you have no place in September you have to go scrabbliing about to find another school in a couple of days? Crazy.

They are so daft - when we got the kit from the comune there was a letter explaining that in the event of getting a place in a state school, I would have to supply an ISEE tassativamente by the end of March for the mensa. Now, I didn't find out until mid April she had a place, but no one's been in touch since about the ISEE. I'm not sure whether to ring them seeing as they don't seem to be bothered.

Brangelina · 20/05/2008 14:57

Oops, I misread that as the liste definitive being out in September. I think I really need to get some air.

francagoestohollywood · 20/05/2008 15:37

you did .
I already know she's in, because the graduatorie provvisorie have been publish ON TIME. The definitive should have been out by the 10th of may, but nothing yet.
And btw I haven't decided what to do still... of course I thought about the amount of mine we'd have to spent if she remained at the private nursery... I hate decisions .

No, about the inserimento, I think a friend of mine heard from the asilo at the end of august (when to start)

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 20/05/2008 15:37

spend

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 20/05/2008 15:37

and btw, why is the weather so crap? Is it my fault???

OP posts:
hotHELL · 20/05/2008 16:26

definetely your fault franca,
dull here too, in case you were missing england..

francagoestohollywood · 20/05/2008 16:30

. There are many things I miss about England, certainly not the weather. Which has followed me, the bastard. It's pissing down here.

Ooh, I have been camping in Puglia, it was not too far from Gallipoli, (really nice). It was pre DCs. Camping was nothing special really, but adequate and had shade, didn't cost much. Beaches nearby were sandy. Will go off and look at a map as I can't remember the name... Torre something.

Weather foul here too, I am wearing tights fgs

francagoestohollywood · 20/05/2008 16:36

tights ! So it's hideous even nr Rome? I find it very difficult to wake up in the morning, I blame the rain.

OP posts:
Sputnik · 20/05/2008 16:50

Ok the place was Torre San Giovanni. Can't find the name of the campsite, but could ask my friend who used to go there every year.

Found this though, which looks nice, right down on the point of the heel (you'd have to check on the sandiness of the beaches though)

Sputnik · 20/05/2008 16:52

Well thin ones, and I do live halfway up a mountain. It was 12° here this morning.

francagoestohollywood · 20/05/2008 18:51

12 degrees, that's cold!
