Hi Gio, where've you been? You should never do Berlusca before breakfast, doncha know, it has been known to bring on acid reflux.

Are you not going away this weekend then? We were supposed to but I can't be bothered, I have too many things to do and just need a couple of days at home. Have taken the ponte off next week though....

Brangelina · 25/04/2008 22:57

Gio, do you fly Ryanair back to the UK? What happens with the buggy? Do you get to pick it up from the under the plane when you arrive in Roma? There was a query about buggies and planes in this thread

gio71 · 26/04/2008 08:13

Hi Brange, just posted on that thread. Did you read that article [http://www.stuardtclarkesrome.com/children.htm here] they referred to?????
Don't get the writer of article at all. How can you come to Rome and say don't bring kids under 7????? Granted no nappy changing facilities etc but to say as a back up food wise there is always MacDonalds???????????????And all this cobbles, nowhere for kids, no supermarkets crap-how does he think we live?? Was he expecting a museum instead of a city I wonder
Anyway now this morning's rant out of way, no am not going away this weekend. I forgot yesterday was a holiday!! As I work with UK market it didn't affect me. DP got in night before at 3.30 after a gig and I woke him up at 7.30 for work yesterday . he hated me all day
Any news from Pippi anyone?
What are you all up to this weekend?

gio71 · 26/04/2008 08:14

oh i cant do links-why didnt that work-try again here

Rosa · 26/04/2008 08:36

Dh said lets go out for the day seeing as he went to the fiera di electronica yesterday . But I diddn't sleep between 3 and 6 last night no idea why so said no. Its a lovely day and maybe I am regretting it now!
So from this fiera dh man of any excuse bought me a 'Magic Bullet'- If you have ever watched any of those selling channels , miracle blade knives are another that are frequently on there. Basically it chops, smooths ( smoothies), minces and a few other things basically that all my eletrodomestic things already do but this is smaller.Anyway he is happy and dd likes playing with the cups as they are pretty colours.
Buon weekend tutti da Venezia in sole

Hello ladies of Little Italy. I have a question that someone might be able to answer. I am starting a temporary job next week for a couple of weeks and have been looking for a babysitter to come from 7 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday (I live in Milan) to look after my 21 month old twins at home. Has anyone got any idea how much I should be paying someone who is not a qualified nanny? It is literally feeding them breakfast and lunch, taking them to the park/playground and generally caring and playing with them. Any advice would be welcome as someone is coming to see me tomorrow and I haven't a clue about hw=ow much to pay. Thanks!

Abena · 28/04/2008 07:33

I meant a couple of MONTHS!

Rosa · 28/04/2008 08:33

eeek Abena sorry I can't help but the others might Gio has a childminder. well done on getting a job was that the one you went interviewing for a few months ago ??

Abena · 28/04/2008 09:40

Yes Rosa I have a job starting September but now they want me to cover someone up to summer holidays. I am actually freaking out about starting work and leaving my baies with someone else. I lie aake at night worrying about it thats how neurotic I am!!

Abena · 28/04/2008 10:08

baBies!

Abena · 28/04/2008 10:08

aWake!

gio71 · 28/04/2008 12:01

Hi Abena
I pay my lovely childminder 10? an hour-she does a couple of hours 3 mornings a week. The idea being that if we did longer days we'd negotiate rate down a little bit.
Congrats on job and hope your childminder tomorrow is equally lovely
Hi everyone else, had nice weekends? We went to park yesterday where they had whole food festival from all areas of Italy going on.mmmm STUFFED MY FACE, melanzane from puglia, cheese from Sardegna, cinghiale, cannolo siciliano, vino,grappa.... so many freebies-made a complete pig of myself

Brangelina · 28/04/2008 12:06

Hi Abena
I think 9 euros per hour is the going rate, although if you have a full day/week you might be able to negotiate a bit. Can I ask is the babysitter Italian or foreign? I used to have a full time babysitter from Sri Lanka and it cost me 800 euros a month, current prices are 900-1000 euros (in nero) but that's a monthly wage, if you just need 2 weeks it might be proportionately a bit more, so maybe 300 euros per week....
Just ask the person what they charge and go from there.

Brangelina · 28/04/2008 12:12

Lol Gio, I overdosed on apsaragus. I still have some in the fridge but I can't face anymore... So is there a fiera del gusto in Roma as well? I sent to the one in Torino a few years ago and stuffed myself silly on all the smelly cheeses, the more rancid the better, plus a lot of loverly wine tasting. I then found out a week later I was pg and had been eating all the forbidden stuff. Oh well, it didn't do any harm and DD loves formaggio stagionato too

Brangelina · 28/04/2008 12:13

Oh Abena, just saw a couple of months. You should be OK with 1000 euros per month.
HTH

francagoestohollywood · 28/04/2008 13:26

Hi, how are you all?
We had a lovely weekend in the country side, the weather was great, and the children spent their whole days outside. We even had a barbecue!
Abena, I second Brangelina's rates re the babysitter. Good luck with your new job! Did you manage to sort out the application for asilo nido?

I have just insulted two guys who were making remarks about my bellezza. They weren't actually being rude, but I felt furious and said that they were being deficienti. What if they wait for me outside and beat me up????

OP posts:
Rosa · 28/04/2008 14:17

Ma va ...I would be complimented or were they making more rude remarks??? They are probably laughing in a bar about how well they did to get a commento from you ! Glad you had a nice weekend weather was great - it has warmed up so much now in Venice . Have started potty training dd good 1st day 2nd very bad day dh has poco pazienza and wants to keep putting pull ups on I say no let her run round with culo x aria cosi impara. Oh well will see.
Have been looking at flights to Uk x estate BA wanted 750 Euro rtn 1st dates I looked at. Am trying to fiddle Ejet and local airline but its looking steep. But need to wait until after Cvs and that I get ok from doc before booking.

Abena · 28/04/2008 15:14

Thanks alot everyone. Great so up to 1000 euros a month would be ok. At least its not more than I'll be earning!! I wonder if it will be more because there are two of them and twins at that. The babysitter is Italian and doesn't speak any English so its going to be interesting explaining things to her in my less than basic Italian. I suppose this is a way to improve my Italian out of pure necessity.
France we looked into the asilo nido and they told us it would cost the same as private because of income. My twins will be able to go to the nursery in the school I will be working at for a small percentage of the fee.
Thanks everyone again for your advice. Mumsnet Little Italy is very handy for newbies in Italy like me who are a bit clueless!

Abena · 28/04/2008 15:15

sorry FRANCA not 'France'. My typing is as bad as my Italian!

Brangelina · 28/04/2008 15:41

Franca, I call people deficienti all the time and have as yet escaped injury. What were they saying? The worst comment I got was years ago when I had a bout of really bad hair and someone told me I looked like la Pivetti (when she had hair). I was and and went to the hairdressers the next day.

Abena, if she's Italian and a bit older she may ask for more money, but the going rate is 1k even with 2 so don't give in. If it's a student then you could probably get away with a bit less but she might e terribly clueless. Did you get the name via word of mouth or through an ad?

Rosa, how many weeks will you be in Aug? You could wait and see if Easyjet go down in price again. I dithered a bit with my flights at Xmas and when I finally booked 2 weeks after I first looked they were 70 euros each cheaper.

I was just musing the other day when watching Xfactor - does Pippi talk like Annalisa, seeing as she's perugina too? Pippi, are you there?????

Rosa · 28/04/2008 15:48

I am loking at going in July. The worst bit is the internal flight I can BA but only at weekends cost so high as all tourist accom is weekend - weekend. the local airline only has 40 seats so when they fill up they get more expensive !!
I have decided and not told DH that I am getting a Quinny Zapp as it folds into the size for hand luggage so I don't have to panic if they wont give me the buggy at LGW-Am NOT going to pull hand luggage and half carry dd esp if we are miles away at LGW then have to race between areas to get buggy and case all with dd and bump. Cant work out the weeks ( as only have 12 weeks looming and the villio - once through that will think properly !!) will be about 27 /8 ish when come back I think !!!

francagoestohollywood · 28/04/2008 16:21

Actually the comments weren't rude at all they were saying "E' proprio bella questa zona" two or three times while looking at me (was citofonando dh who couldn't hear the bloody citofono) but I got intimidated and went all american, and wtf, no one has ever made apprezzamenti and I found it rude anyway. Perhaps I've lived too long in the UK. So I think I OTT. But I feel Italian men should bloody stop making remarks at women, so there you go .

Abena, excellent, it's great you have a place at the school nursery. I was wondering, do you know of any English (or american, australian whatever, but with english as their mother tongue) who'd be interested to look after 2 lovely children maybe twice a week and speak to them in English??? . I'm cheeky

Brange, Pippi's accent is not as strong, but it is immediately recognizable as perugino.
I think I might be developing a crash on morgan

OP posts:
Abena · 28/04/2008 19:11

Yes Brangelina I think she is older as she said she had to look after her 'nipoti' in the evenings (grandchildren or nephews???). I will suggest 1000 euros.
Franca I know someone who might be considering working in that line when he children start school in September and another who teaches privately English lessons to children and is looking for work. Thye are both English so I will ask.How old are the children?
I am dreading tomorrow and my crap Italian as the babysitter called this evening and I had to pass the phone to dh (who doesnt speak Italian much either but is less prone to panic) as I couldnt understand what she was saying! Embarassing.

PippiCalzelunghe · 28/04/2008 22:10

I am here tonight! not for long. I wonder when I'll have enough time for myself. nothing to do with dd2 ut with the house...it will never end.

brang I so want to see this annalisa. When I left pg it had just started and a pizzeria next to my mum had all the 'forza annalisa' posters. I am sure I do sound perugina...somehow on telly it comes across a lot stronger...not that I have ever been!!! remember the guy who won il grande fratello last year?

we are all fine here. I am not finding it hard at all at the moment going from one to two, much worse first time round when my life was completely 'stravolta'. mind you the fact that dd2 is a complete angel surely helps.

I'll try to come here more often but I am scared I'll spend all my day and not get round to do anything. but please doo bare with me... I won't disappear.

rosa when are you due? are you feeling okay?
hothell do you know what you are having?
franca I do hate it as well when they make such comments...although these days I look so rough that I'd relish even them!

francagoestohollywood · 29/04/2008 10:15

Pippi, don't you dare disappearing ! And stop being so efficienet. You have just given birth. You should be mumsnetting all day with a newborn hanging from your boobs . We miss you! How's the house going? and we want pics of the baby. And the name!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Abena, my children will be soon 4 and 6. I'd love to find someone for september, their English is really going downhill, plus I'd love if they could read and write in English. Shall I CAT you?
Lol at panicking on the phone. In the UK I used to panic every time the phone rang, I hated cold calls, I went into such a state that I couldn't understand a single word!
